CAMS Certification 2026 guide by Brolly Academy

Quick answer

CAMS (Certified Anti-Money Laundering Specialist) is a global anti-money laundering certification issued by ACAMS; to sit the exam you need active ACAMS membership and 40 eligibility credits, and the certification package costs US$2,095 for the private sector or US$1,595 for the public sector (ACAMS CAMS factsheet, October 2026). The exam is a 3.5-hour, computer-based, proctored test with 120 multiple-choice questions that you can take online or at an approved testing centre. ACAMS does not list a rupee price in its factsheet, so your INR cost depends on the exchange rate on the day you pay. For most Indian freshers, CAMS is a strong second step after you get your first KYC or AML job, not a ticket into one.

  • Issued by: ACAMS, the Association of Certified Anti-Money Laundering Specialists
  • Eligibility: active ACAMS membership plus 40 eligibility credits from education, experience, certifications and training
  • Exam: 120 multiple-choice questions, 3.5 hours, online or at a testing centre
  • Package price: US$2,095 (private sector) or US$1,595 (public sector)
  • Best for: working KYC, AML and compliance professionals who want a globally known credential

Key takeaways

  1. CAMS is the flagship certification of ACAMS, which calls it trusted in more than 180 countries (ACAMS CAMS factsheet, October 2026).
  2. You cannot simply book the exam. You need an active ACAMS membership and 40 eligibility credits first, and you can save your application and submit it once you qualify.
  3. The package price includes the study guide, flashcards, four core courses, two electives, an exam simulator with 1,000+ practice questions and the exam itself.
  4. Indian AML job descriptions we read in October 2026 list ACAMS as "good to have" or "a plus", not as a must, so skills and experience still come first.
  5. If you are a fresher on a tight budget, the IIBF AML and KYC certificate (₹1,100 or ₹1,600 per attempt) is a cheaper first credential, and CAMS can follow once you are working.

1. CAMS certification at a glance

Short answer: CAMS is a single global exam backed by a self-paced course package; the table below gives you every key fact on one screen.

Here are the facts you will look for first, all from the official ACAMS CAMS factsheet (2026 edition, checked October 2026). ACAMS's main website blocks automated checks, so we rely on this official PDF hosted on ACAMS's own media server.

Item What ACAMS says Full form Certified Anti-Money Laundering Specialist Issuer ACAMS (Association of Certified Anti-Money Laundering Specialists) Recognition Trusted in more than 180 countries, per ACAMS Eligibility Active ACAMS membership and 40 eligibility credits Exam length 3.5 hours Questions 120 multiple-choice, knowledge-based and scenario-based Exam mode Computer-based and proctored, online or at an approved testing centre Package price US$2,095 private sector, US$1,595 public sector Optional add-on Virtual Classroom Series, US$595 Study material 4 core courses, 2 electives, study guide PDF, flashcards, simulator with 1,000+ questions Languages English, Arabic, French, German, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish, Simplified and Traditional Chinese Staying certified Ongoing ACAMS membership and continuing education

Two things are missing from this table on purpose: the passing score and the rupee price. ACAMS's factsheet does not state either, and we do not repeat numbers we could not check. We explain how to handle both later in this guide.

2. What is CAMS and who issues it?

Short answer: CAMS is a professional certification that tests your knowledge of how money laundering works and how financial institutions detect and prevent it; it is issued by ACAMS, a global membership body for anti-financial crime professionals.

Money laundering is the process of making money from crime look like it came from a legal source. Anti-money laundering (AML) is the set of laws, controls and checks that banks and other firms use to stop it. If you are new to the field, start with our guide to anti-money laundering basics, then come back here.

CAMS proves that you understand this work at a global level. ACAMS lists these job titles as a good fit for the certification (ACAMS CAMS factsheet, October 2026):

  • Compliance Officer and Head of Compliance
  • Internal Auditor
  • KYC Analyst
  • MLRO or BSA Officer (the Money Laundering Reporting Officer in many countries, or the Bank Secrecy Act officer in the US)
  • Risk Manager

You will meet a lot of jargon in CAMS material. Here are the terms that come up most, in plain words:

  • KYC (Know Your Customer): checking who a customer is before and while you serve them
  • CDD (Customer Due Diligence): identifying and verifying the customer and the real owner behind them
  • EDD (Enhanced Due Diligence): extra checks for higher-risk customers
  • PEP (Politically Exposed Person): someone who holds or held a prominent public role, plus their family and close associates
  • Sanctions: legal restrictions that stop you dealing with listed people, firms or countries
  • Typology: a known pattern or method criminals use to launder money
  • Alert and false positive: an alert is a flag raised by a monitoring system; a false positive is an alert that turns out to be harmless
  • STR (Suspicious Transaction Report): the report a bank files with the authorities when it suspects a transaction
  • FATF (Financial Action Task Force): the inter-governmental body that sets global AML standards

CAMS is global. It teaches international frameworks and good practice, not one country's rulebook. That matters for Indian readers, and we come back to it in section 13.

3. CAMS eligibility: membership plus 40 credits

Short answer: To be eligible for CAMS you need an active ACAMS membership and 40 ACAMS eligibility credits, earned through your education, work experience, other certifications and training.

This is the rule as ACAMS states it in the CAMS factsheet (October 2026). The factsheet adds that you can save your progress on the application and apply once you are eligible.

Where credits come from

ACAMS names four sources of credits:

  1. Education: your degree or academic qualifications
  2. Experience: your years of work in AML, compliance or related fields
  3. Certifications: other professional certifications you hold
  4. Training: relevant training hours you have completed

What we cannot tell you

The current factsheet does not list how many credits each degree, year of work or training hour is worth. Older ACAMS handbooks did publish a table, but those figures are years out of date, so we do not repeat them. Before you pay, open the eligibility section of your ACAMS account and add up your credits against the current table.

How this plays out for Indian learners

Think about eligibility in terms of your profile rather than a number:

Your profile Likely position on eligibility What to do Final-year student or fresh graduate, no AML work Education alone may not reach 40 credits Check the current credit table before you buy; build experience first KYC or AML analyst with some years of work Education plus experience often adds up well Calculate credits, then pick the package Banker or BPO staff moving into compliance Depends on how ACAMS counts your past roles List each role and training course in your application Graduate with other certifications or AML training Extra credits may close the gap Keep certificates and training records ready as proof

The table above is guidance, not an ACAMS ruling. Only ACAMS decides whether you meet 40 credits.

4. CAMS exam format

Short answer: The CAMS exam has 120 multiple-choice questions in 3.5 hours, mixing knowledge questions and scenario questions, and it is computer-based and proctored, either online from home or at an approved testing centre.

Here is the format from the ACAMS factsheet (October 2026), with a little arithmetic added to help you plan.

Feature Detail Number of questions 120 Question type Multiple choice, knowledge-based and scenario-based Duration 3.5 hours (210 minutes) Time per question About 1 minute 45 seconds on average (210 ÷ 120) Delivery Computer-based, proctored Where Online, or at an approved testing centre Languages 11 language options, including English

Knowledge questions vs scenario questions

A knowledge question checks whether you know a fact or a definition. For example, it may ask which stage of money laundering hides the trail of funds. A scenario question gives you a short case, such as a customer moving funds through several new accounts, and asks what the analyst should do next. Scenario questions take longer, so do not spend too long on the quick knowledge items.

Online or testing centre?

Online proctoring saves travel, but you need a quiet room, a stable internet connection and a computer that passes the proctor's checks. A testing centre removes those home risks. Pick the option where you are least likely to be disturbed for three and a half hours.

The passing score

People often search for the CAMS passing score. ACAMS's factsheet does not publish it, and we could not verify a current figure, so we do not give one here. Aim to score well above your comfort level on the exam simulator rather than chasing a rumoured cut-off.

5. CAMS certification cost in India

Short answer: The CAMS certification package costs US$2,095 for private-sector candidates and US$1,595 for public-sector candidates, and ACAMS does not state a rupee price in its factsheet, so your INR cost depends on the exchange rate and any bank charges on the day you pay.

These are the prices listed in the ACAMS CAMS factsheet (October 2026):

Item Price (USD) What it covers Certification package, private sector US$2,095 Study guide, flashcards, 4 core courses, 2 electives, exam simulator, exam Certification package, public sector US$1,595 Same contents, for eligible public-sector candidates Virtual Classroom Series (optional add-on) US$595 Live virtual classes; ACAMS says you save up to US$195 when you bundle it

Why we do not give a rupee figure

Many pages quote a fixed INR price for CAMS. That number goes stale as soon as the rupee moves. The honest way to work it out is simple:

  1. Note the USD price of the package you need.
  2. Check the exchange rate your card or bank will apply on the day you pay.
  3. Add your bank's foreign transaction fee and any applicable taxes.
  4. Add the membership cost shown at ACAMS checkout, because active membership is required.

Membership cost

The factsheet says you need active ACAMS membership, but it does not list the membership fee, and we could not verify it. Check it at checkout and include it in your budget.

Who pays?

Many working professionals ask their employer to sponsor CAMS. If you work in a bank, a global capability centre (GCC) or a Big Four firm, ask your manager or learning team whether they reimburse certification costs before you pay yourself. Freshers usually pay out of pocket, which is one reason we suggest a cheaper first step in section 12.

6. What the CAMS package includes

Short answer: Every CAMS certification package includes four self-paced core courses, two elective courses at no extra cost, an exam simulator with 1,000+ practice questions, flashcards, a study guide PDF and the exam itself.

The four core courses

According to the ACAMS factsheet (October 2026), the core courses are:

  1. Understanding Risks and Methods of Financial Crime: how money laundering, terrorist financing and related crimes work, including the main typologies
  2. Global AFC Frameworks, Governance and Regulations: international standards and the governance around anti-financial crime (AFC) work
  3. Building an AFC Compliance Program: policies, risk assessment, controls, KYC and monitoring inside an institution
  4. Tools and Technologies to Fight Financial Crime: the systems and data methods used to detect and investigate suspicious activity

The two electives

You also choose two electives, at no extra cost:

  • One sector case-study course, which applies AML concepts to a specific industry
  • One regional regulatory framework course, which covers rules in a particular region

The factsheet does not list every elective title, so check the current options when you enrol and pick the sector closest to your job.

Practice tools

  • Exam simulator: more than 1,000 practice questions
  • Flashcards: for quick revision of terms and concepts
  • Study guide PDF: the core reading for the exam

Private vs public sector package

Both packages contain the same items. The difference is the price and who qualifies. If you work for a government body or regulator, check whether you qualify for the public-sector rate as ACAMS defines it.

7. How to register for CAMS step by step

Short answer: ACAMS describes three steps, select your package, prepare and apply, then schedule and pass the exam, and in practice you should confirm your credits before you pay.

ACAMS's own three-step outline in the factsheet (October 2026) is: select a package, prepare and apply, and schedule and pass. Here is that path broken into practical actions.

  1. Check your eligibility. List your degree, AML or compliance experience, other certifications and training. Compare them with the current ACAMS credit table in your account to confirm you can reach 40 credits.
  2. Get or renew ACAMS membership. Active membership is a condition of eligibility.
  3. Select your package. Choose private sector (US$2,095) or public sector (US$1,595). Decide whether you want the US$595 Virtual Classroom Series.
  4. Start preparing. Work through the four core courses, your two electives and the study guide.
  5. Complete and submit your application. Enter your education, experience, certifications and training. You can save progress and submit once you are eligible.
  6. Schedule the exam. Choose online proctoring or an approved testing centre, and pick a date that matches your study plan.
  7. Sit and pass the exam. Take the 120-question test in 3.5 hours.
  8. Keep it active. Maintain your membership and continuing education after you pass.

A tip from experience: book your exam date early in your preparation. A fixed date stops the study plan from drifting.

8. A 6 to 8 week CAMS study plan

Short answer: If you already work in KYC or AML and can study 8 to 10 hours a week, plan for 6 to 8 weeks: one core course at a time, then electives, then two full weeks of simulator practice.

This plan is our suggestion, not an ACAMS requirement. Stretch it if you are new to AML or can only study a few hours a week.

Week Focus Output by the end of the week 1 Core course 1: risks and methods of financial crime Your own one-page notes on stages and typologies 2 Core course 2: global frameworks, governance and regulations A comparison sheet of key standards and bodies 3 Core course 3: building a compliance programme A flow of KYC, CDD, EDD, monitoring and reporting 4 Core course 4: tools and technologies Notes on alert handling, screening and case management 5 Two electives plus flashcards Elective summaries; flashcards reviewed daily 6 Simulator: topic-wise practice sets A list of weak topics with page references 7 Simulator: full timed mock exams Two timed mocks completed in 3.5 hours each 8 Revision of weak topics, light mocks, exam day Rest the day before, then sit the exam

How to study each week

  • Read with a purpose. After each chapter, write three questions an examiner could ask.
  • Map it to your job. Link every concept to something you have seen at work, such as an alert you closed or a KYC file you reviewed.
  • Practise scenarios. For each case question you get wrong, write down why the right answer is right.
  • Time yourself. From week 6, practise at about 1 minute 45 seconds per question.

If you are new to AML

Add two to four weeks at the start to learn the basics: the three stages of money laundering, KYC and CDD, transaction monitoring and sanctions screening. A structured AML course or free official material helps here. Section 11 compares the main certificate options side by side.

9. Exam-day tips and common mistakes

Short answer: Most CAMS candidates lose marks through poor timing and through answering from their own employer's practice instead of global best practice, so manage the clock and read every scenario carefully.

Exam-day checklist

  • Test your computer, webcam and internet a day before if you sit online.
  • Keep your ID ready and clear your desk of notes and devices.
  • Plan two checkpoints: aim to finish about 40 questions per 70 minutes.
  • Flag hard questions and return to them; do not let one scenario eat ten minutes.
  • Read the last line of each scenario first so you know what is being asked.

Common mistakes

  1. Answering from local habit. CAMS tests global good practice. Your bank's internal process may differ.
  2. Skipping the simulator. Reading alone rarely prepares you for scenario wording.
  3. Paying before checking credits. Confirm you can reach 40 credits first.
  4. Ignoring the electives. They are part of the package, and they deepen your sector knowledge.
  5. Cramming. Spaced revision with flashcards works better than long last-minute sessions.

10. CAMS recertification: keeping your certificate active

Short answer: ACAMS says CAMS is maintained through ongoing membership and continuing education, so plan to keep your membership active and keep logging learning after you pass.

The factsheet (October 2026) states only the principle: certification is maintained through ongoing membership and education. It does not state the recertification cycle length or the number of continuing education credits needed, and we could not verify those details, so we do not quote them.

What you can do:

  • Keep your ACAMS membership active without gaps.
  • Keep records of webinars, courses, conferences and training you complete.
  • Check the current recertification rules in your ACAMS account well before any deadline.
  • Treat recertification as a reason to keep learning new typologies and rules, not as paperwork.

11. CAMS vs IIBF AML/KYC vs ICA

Short answer: CAMS is the global, higher-cost choice for working professionals; the IIBF AML and KYC certificate is the low-cost Indian entry option; and ICA offers a ladder from an introductory certificate up to a diploma.

All facts below come from each body's official pages, checked October 2026: the ACAMS CAMS factsheet, the IIBF AML and KYC rules document dated November 2024, and the ICA Certificate in Anti Money Laundering page.

Feature CAMS (ACAMS) IIBF AML and KYC certificate ICA Certificate in AML Eligibility Active ACAMS membership plus 40 credits 12th pass in any stream, or IIBF BC/BF exam; members and non-members Introductory Level 2 course for new entrants Exam 120 MCQs, 3.5 hours, online or test centre 120 MCQs for 100 marks, 2 hours, online remote-proctored, English only, no negative marking One-hour online multiple-choice exam Pass mark Not stated in the factsheet 60 out of 100 Not covered here Cost US$2,095 private, US$1,595 public ₹1,100 members, ₹1,600 non-members, per attempt, plus charges and taxes £765 / €860 / $1030 plus ICA membership £195 / €220 / $260 for non-members, plus taxes Study support 4 core courses, 2 electives, simulator, flashcards, guide Self-study for the exam Online self-paced, 2 months' access Focus Global AML and anti-financial crime Indian banking AML and KYC International AML basics Best for Working professionals targeting global roles Freshers and Indian bank staff Newcomers wanting an international certificate

The ICA ladder

ICA's AML subject page shows four levels: Certificates for new entrants, Advanced Certificates for analysts and managers, Specialist Certificates such as Trade Based Money Laundering, and Diplomas. The ICA Diploma in Anti Money Laundering is a Level 6 qualification over 9 months part-time, with a fee of £4500 / €5085 / $6075 plus membership and taxes (ICA, October 2026). The ICA Certificate in AML is awarded with Alliance Manchester Business School at the University of Manchester and gives the designation Cert(AML).

Where CFE fits

The Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE) credential from the ACFE focuses on fraud prevention, detection and investigation (ACFE, October 2026). It suits fraud investigation roles more than pure AML roles. Some AML job descriptions list it as a plus alongside ACAMS.

For a wider list of options, including which certificate to take at each career stage, read our full AML certification guide.

12. Is CAMS worth it? Freshers vs experienced professionals

Short answer: CAMS is usually worth it once you have one to three years in KYC, AML or compliance and want global roles or promotion; for a fresher with no AML job yet, the high US-dollar cost and the 40-credit rule often make it a better second step.

For freshers

The case for waiting:

  • The package costs US$1,595 to US$2,095, a large sum for a fresher paying alone.
  • You may not reach 40 eligibility credits from education alone.
  • Indian job descriptions we read in October 2026 list certifications as "good to have", not as a requirement for entry roles.

What helps a fresher more right now: solid KYC and AML basics, strong Excel, clear writing and a low-cost Indian credential like the IIBF AML and KYC certificate. For practical steps, see our guide to AML jobs for freshers.

For experienced professionals

The case for going ahead:

  • CAMS matches the profile ACAMS lists, such as KYC Analyst, Compliance Officer, Risk Manager and MLRO.
  • Global banks and GCCs in Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Pune and Chennai often serve overseas clients, and some of their JDs name ACAMS directly, as section 13 shows.
  • Your employer may sponsor it, which removes the cost barrier.
  • The structured course fills gaps if you have only worked in one area, such as KYC, and want to move to investigations or monitoring.

Decision table

Your situation Is CAMS worth it now? Better first move Student or fresher, no AML job Usually not yet AML basics, Excel, IIBF AML and KYC certificate KYC analyst, 1 to 3 years Often yes, if eligible Check credits; ask about sponsorship TM or sanctions analyst aiming for L2 or L3 Yes, for depth and visibility CAMS plus case-writing practice Team lead or compliance officer Yes, for credibility CAMS, then a specialist certificate Bank branch or BPO staff moving to compliance Maybe Get an AML role first, then CAMS

L1, L2 and L3 refer to levels of review in AML operations: L1 analysts do first-level alert review, L2 analysts investigate escalated cases, and L3 is senior investigation or decision-making.

What about salary?

We could not find a reliable source that measures a pay premium for CAMS holders in India, so we do not quote one. For context only, AmbitionBox showed a typical range of ₹5.8 to 6.4 lakh a year for AML Analysts in India (1 to 7 years' experience, 3.3k reported salaries, updated October 2026) and ₹7.5 to 8.5 lakh for AML Specialists (2 to 11 years, 165 salaries, a small sample). These figures cover everyone in those roles, certified or not. For more detail, see our AML analyst salary in India guide.

13. What employers say about CAMS in job descriptions

Short answer: In Indian AML job descriptions we read in October 2026, ACAMS appears as "good to have" or "a plus", next to ICA, CFE and CFCS; skills like KYC reviews, alert handling, Excel and clear case writing are what employers actually require.

We read 11 AML and KYC job descriptions on LinkedIn and Naukri on 24 October 2026. Here is what they said about certifications:

  • State Street, AML Senior Associate, Hyderabad: the job description lists an ACAMS or ICA certificate as good to have. It also asks for KYC reviews on all entity types, World-Check searches, 99% quality, advanced Excel and readiness for night shifts if required.
  • Interactive Brokers, AML Analyst I, Mumbai: the listing asks for 3 to 5 years' experience and a bachelor's in finance, economics, accounting or information systems, and names ACAMS, CFE and CFCS as a plus (LinkedIn, October 2026).
  • Across the 11 JDs: most asked for "any graduate", some preferred finance or commerce, and certifications were listed as "good to have" or "a plus", never as mandatory.

What this means for you

CAMS can help your profile stand out, especially for mid-level and senior roles in global banks and GCCs. It does not replace the core skills JDs list: KYC, CDD and EDD reviews, transaction monitoring and sanctions alert review, written case narratives and Excel.

To give a sense of market size, Naukri showed about 16,323 results for "aml" across India on 24 October 2026. That is a keyword-match count that includes duplicates and loosely related roles, not a count of open AML jobs.

14. Where CAMS fits in an AML career in India

Short answer: CAMS gives you the global view, but Indian roles also need Indian rules, so pair CAMS with working knowledge of PMLA, FIU-IND reporting and RBI's KYC Directions.

CAMS teaches global standards. If you work for an Indian bank, or for a GCC that also serves Indian entities, you also need the local layer:

  • PMLA 2002: India's Prevention of Money-laundering Act, the main AML law, which requires reporting entities to keep records and report to FIU-IND.
  • FIU-IND (Financial Intelligence Unit – India): the national agency that receives reports such as STRs and CTRs (cash transaction reports). Per FIU-IND's official FAQs (October 2026), STRs must be filed not later than seven working days after the Principal Officer is satisfied a transaction is suspicious.
  • RBI KYC rules: for commercial banks, the current rule is the Reserve Bank of India (Commercial Banks – Know Your Customer) Directions, 2025, dated 28 November 2025, which replaced the earlier 2016 Master Direction on KYC (RBI, October 2026).

This guide is education, not legal advice. For any specific case, check the current Act, rules and RBI notification, or speak to a lawyer.

A sensible order

  1. Learn AML basics and Indian rules through a course or the IIBF certificate.
  2. Get your first KYC or AML role and learn real alert and case work.
  3. Take CAMS once you are eligible, ideally with employer sponsorship.
  4. Add a specialist certificate later, such as sanctions or trade-based money laundering.

15. How Brolly Academy helps

Short answer: Brolly Academy's 45-day AML course builds the KYC, CDD, monitoring and regulatory basics that CAMS assumes, so you can land your first role and prepare for CAMS later with confidence.

Brolly Academy does not issue or examine CAMS. The Brolly Academy AML Course in India page names ACAMS CAMS, the IIBF AML and KYC certificate and NISM AML certification as possible next steps, and states that these are issued and examined by those bodies, with separate fees. Here is what the course page lists (Brolly Academy, October 2026):

  • Duration: 45 days, online and classroom. Weeks 1 to 2 cover money laundering basics and risks; weeks 3 to 4 cover industries, rules and laws (RBI, SEBI, FATF, INTERPOL, reporting and penalties); week 5 covers KYC, CDD and EDD; week 6 covers AML programmes, technology, a final case study and a certificate assessment.
  • Syllabus: 7 modules, from understanding money laundering and typologies to the regulatory framework, CDD and KYC, compliance programmes, and AML technology.
  • Tools introduced: NICE Actimize, SAS AML, Oracle Financial Services (OFSAA), FICO TONBELLER, BAE Systems NetReveal, ComplyAdvantage, World-Check (Refinitiv), Excel and SQL.
  • Projects: 6 capstone projects, including KYC verification, transaction monitoring, risk assessment and an end-to-end AML case.
  • Fees and modes: Video Recording ₹6,999, Online Course ₹14,999 and Classroom Training in Hyderabad ₹19,999. Weekday and weekend batches run, and a free demo class is offered before you enrol.

  • Career support: placement assistance with resume building, mock interviews and interview scheduling. The certificate is a Brolly Academy course completion certificate, not a CAMS credential.

The next batch listed on the page starts on Monday, 2 November 2026.

Build your AML foundation before you spend dollars on CAMS

CAMS is a big investment, and it pays off best when you already understand KYC, CDD, transaction monitoring and Indian AML rules. Brolly Academy's 45-day AML course covers these basics online or in classroom in Hyderabad, with six capstone projects, mock interviews and placement assistance. Join a free demo class to see if it fits your goals before you enrol.

Frequently asked questions

What is CAMS certification?

CAMS stands for Certified Anti-Money Laundering Specialist. It is a global anti-money laundering certification issued by ACAMS, the Association of Certified Anti-Money Laundering Specialists. It tests how well you understand money laundering risks, global frameworks, compliance programmes and the tools used to fight financial crime. ACAMS says the certification is trusted in more than 180 countries, and it suits roles such as KYC analyst, compliance officer and risk manager.

Who issues the CAMS certification?

ACAMS issues the CAMS certification. ACAMS is the Association of Certified Anti-Money Laundering Specialists, a global membership body for professionals who work against financial crime. It runs the certification package, the eligibility check, the exam and the ongoing membership that keeps your credential active. ACAMS says CAMS is trusted in more than 180 countries, and some Indian AML job descriptions name ACAMS as good to have.

What is the CAMS certification cost in India?

The CAMS certification package costs US$2,095 for private-sector candidates and US$1,595 for public-sector candidates, according to the ACAMS factsheet checked in October 2026. ACAMS does not list a rupee price in that factsheet. Your cost in rupees depends on the exchange rate your bank applies on payment day, plus any foreign transaction fee, taxes and the ACAMS membership cost shown at checkout.

What are the CAMS eligibility requirements?

To be eligible for CAMS, you need an active ACAMS membership and 40 ACAMS eligibility credits. Credits come from your education, work experience, other certifications and training. You can save your application and submit it once you reach 40 credits. The current factsheet does not list how many credits each item is worth, so check the credit table in your ACAMS account before you buy a package.

Can a fresher do CAMS certification?

A fresher can try, but it is often not the best first step. You must reach 40 eligibility credits, and education alone may not get you there. The package also costs US$1,595 to US$2,095. Indian job descriptions list certifications as good to have rather than required for entry roles, so many freshers start with AML basics and the IIBF AML and KYC certificate, then take CAMS once working.

How many questions are in the CAMS exam?

The CAMS exam has 120 multiple-choice questions. They include knowledge-based questions, which test facts and definitions, and scenario-based questions, which give you a short case and ask what an analyst should do. You get 3.5 hours for the whole exam, which works out to about 1 minute 45 seconds per question on average, so timing practice matters.

How long is the CAMS exam?

The CAMS exam lasts 3.5 hours, which is 210 minutes. It is a computer-based, proctored exam that you can take online or at an approved testing centre. With 120 questions, you have about 1 minute 45 seconds for each question on average. A good habit is to set checkpoints, such as finishing about 40 questions every 70 minutes, and flag hard questions to revisit.

Can I take the CAMS exam online from India?

Yes. ACAMS says the CAMS exam is computer-based and proctored, and you can take it online or at an approved testing centre. If you choose online, you need a quiet room, a stable internet connection and a computer that passes the proctor's checks. If your home setup is unreliable, a testing centre may be the safer choice for the 3.5-hour exam.

What is the CAMS passing score?

ACAMS's 2026 CAMS factsheet does not publish a passing score, and we could not verify a current figure, so we do not quote one. Instead of chasing a rumoured cut-off, aim for consistently strong scores on the exam simulator, which has more than 1,000 practice questions. Check your ACAMS account for any official scoring information before your exam date.

What does the CAMS package include?

Each CAMS certification package includes a study guide PDF, flashcards, four self-paced core courses, two elective courses at no extra cost, an exam simulator with more than 1,000 practice questions and the exam itself. The core courses cover financial crime risks and methods, global frameworks and regulations, building a compliance programme, and tools and technologies. The electives are one sector case study and one regional regulatory course.

What is the difference between the private and public sector CAMS packages?

Both packages contain the same items: study guide, flashcards, four core courses, two electives, the exam simulator and the exam. The difference is price and who qualifies. The private-sector package costs US$2,095 and the public-sector package costs US$1,595. If you work for a government body or regulator, check whether you meet ACAMS's definition for the public-sector rate.

What is the CAMS Virtual Classroom Series?

The Virtual Classroom Series is an optional add-on to the CAMS package that adds live virtual classes to the self-paced material. ACAMS lists it at US$595 and says you can save up to US$195 when you bundle it with a package. It suits learners who prefer a teacher-led schedule. If you study well on your own, the self-paced courses and simulator may be enough.

How do I register for the CAMS exam?

ACAMS describes three steps: select your package, prepare and apply, then schedule and pass. In practice, first check you can reach 40 eligibility credits, get or renew ACAMS membership, and buy the private or public-sector package. Then study, submit your application with your education, experience, certifications and training, schedule the exam online or at a testing centre, and sit it.

How long does it take to prepare for CAMS?

If you already work in KYC or AML and can study 8 to 10 hours a week, 6 to 8 weeks is a realistic plan. Spend four weeks on the core courses, one on electives and flashcards, and two to three on simulator practice and timed mock exams. If you are new to AML, add two to four weeks at the start to learn the basics first.

Is the CAMS exam difficult?

The CAMS exam is challenging mainly because of its length and its scenario questions. You answer 120 questions in 3.5 hours, and scenario items test judgment, not just memory. Many candidates also lose marks by answering from their own employer's process instead of global good practice. Regular simulator practice, timed mocks and linking each concept to real work make it much more manageable.

How do I keep my CAMS certification active?

ACAMS says CAMS is maintained through ongoing membership and continuing education. Keep your ACAMS membership active without gaps, and keep records of the webinars, courses and training you complete. The factsheet does not state the recertification cycle length or the credits needed, so check the current recertification rules in your ACAMS account well before any deadline.

In which languages can I take the CAMS exam?

ACAMS lists 11 language options for CAMS: English, Arabic, French, German, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish, Simplified Chinese and Traditional Chinese. Most Indian candidates choose English. Pick the language you read fastest and most accurately, because scenario questions are wordy and you have about 1 minute 45 seconds per question on average.

Is CAMS worth it in India?

CAMS is usually worth it for working professionals with one to three or more years in KYC, AML or compliance, especially if they want roles in global banks and GCCs or their employer will sponsor it. For freshers with no AML job, the US-dollar cost and the 40-credit rule often make it a better second step. Skills like KYC reviews, alert handling and Excel still matter most.

Does CAMS guarantee an AML job?

No certification guarantees a job, and CAMS is no exception. Indian AML job descriptions we read in October 2026 listed ACAMS as good to have or a plus, not as mandatory. Employers mainly ask for KYC, CDD and EDD skills, alert review, clear case writing and Excel. CAMS helps your profile stand out, especially for mid-level and senior roles, when backed by real experience.

Do Indian employers ask for CAMS in job descriptions?

Some do, usually as a preference. A State Street AML Senior Associate role in Hyderabad listed an ACAMS or ICA certificate as good to have, and an Interactive Brokers AML Analyst I role in Mumbai named ACAMS, CFE and CFCS as a plus. Across the 11 job descriptions we read in October 2026, certifications were never listed as mandatory.

Which is better, CAMS or the IIBF AML and KYC certificate?

They serve different stages. The IIBF AML and KYC certificate costs ₹1,100 for members or ₹1,600 for non-members per attempt, needs only a 12th pass, and focuses on Indian banking. CAMS costs US$1,595 to US$2,095, needs membership and 40 credits, and focuses on global AML. Freshers and Indian bank staff often start with IIBF, then add CAMS later.

What is the difference between CAMS and the ICA Certificate in AML?

CAMS is a single global certification with a 120-question, 3.5-hour exam and a US$1,595 to US$2,095 package. The ICA Certificate in Anti Money Laundering is an introductory Level 2 course with two months of self-paced online access and a one-hour multiple-choice exam, costing £765 or $1030 plus ICA membership for non-members. ICA also offers advanced, specialist and diploma levels.

Is CAMS better than CFE?

Neither is better overall; they target different work. CAMS focuses on anti-money laundering and wider anti-financial crime compliance. The CFE, from the ACFE, focuses on fraud prevention, detection and investigation. If you want KYC, transaction monitoring, sanctions or AML investigation roles, CAMS fits better. If you want fraud investigation roles, CFE may suit you more. Some AML job descriptions list both as a plus.

Does CAMS cover Indian AML laws like PMLA?

CAMS is a global certification focused on international frameworks and good practice, not one country's rulebook. Indian roles also need knowledge of PMLA 2002, FIU-IND reporting such as STRs, and RBI's KYC Directions, 2025 for commercial banks. Pair CAMS with local learning, for example the IIBF AML and KYC certificate or an Indian AML course, and check current rules for any specific case.

Does Brolly Academy's AML course prepare me for CAMS?

Brolly Academy does not issue or examine CAMS, and its certificate is a course completion certificate. Its 45-day AML course covers money laundering stages, typologies, the regulatory framework, KYC, CDD, EDD, compliance programmes and AML technology, which are the foundations CAMS builds on. The course page names CAMS as a possible next step, with the exam and fees handled separately by ACAMS.
