1. APM concepts and environment architecture
Map applications, tiers, nodes and back-end dependencies. Distinguish the monitoring control plane from the application being observed. Output: an architecture sketch that identifies what the lab can and cannot see.
2. Agent deployment and validation
Plan agent compatibility, connectivity and configuration in an approved test environment. Verify that data is arriving before troubleshooting application performance. Discuss overhead and sensitive-data collection. Output: an instrumentation checklist and a safe removal or rollback plan.
3. Business transactions and flow maps
Understand how important application activities are represented and inspect their paths through services. Review naming and detection boundaries to avoid an unmanageable transaction list. Output: a small transaction map with clear business meaning and documented limitations.
4. Metrics, time ranges and baselines
Read response time, error and throughput metrics together. Compare an appropriate time range and workload rather than treating every spike as an incident. Explore dynamic baselines and why a changed default can affect existing rules. Output: a justified normal-versus-unusual comparison.
5. Snapshots and diagnostic evidence
Use available snapshots, call information and runtime metrics to investigate a slow request. Separate correlation from a proven cause and check whether the relevant transaction was captured. Output: an evidence timeline and a short list of testable explanations.
6. Health rules, policies and alerts
Design warning and critical conditions with useful scope and evaluation criteria. Consider low traffic, noisy baselines and repeated notifications. Test the response path without triggering an uncontrolled real incident. Output: a small alert set with a clear owner and investigation action.
7. Dashboards, access and operational reporting
Choose metrics that support a specific decision. Separate a service overview from a detailed engineering view. Review role access, dashboard sharing and the handling of captured request data. Output: an operational dashboard with definitions and a privacy-aware handover note.
8. Incident investigation capstone
Introduce a controlled slow dependency or application error, observe it and explain the evidence. Propose a change, repeat the test and compare results under similar conditions. Output: a concise incident report, screenshots of relevant metrics and a statement of remaining uncertainty.

No. Supported monitoring options cover multiple technologies, but each agent has its own compatibility requirements. The batch should name the runtime used in practical exercises.
Will AppDynamics automatically identify every root cause?
No. It provides observations that help investigation. Missing instrumentation, sampling and unrelated changes can limit conclusions, so a suspected cause still needs validation.
What is a business transaction?
It represents a meaningful application activity, such as a checkout request, as observed through the configured instrumentation. Good naming and scope make the performance information easier to use.
Are dynamic baselines always better than static thresholds?
Not always. The right condition depends on traffic patterns, business impact and available history. A combination of conditions can be more useful than a single sensitive baseline rule.
Is an official vendor exam included?
