About Jira Training

Jira helps teams plan, track and review work. A work item moves through statuses such as To Do, In Progress and Done. Boards and reports make the work easier to see, but their value depends on consistent definitions, appropriate permissions and reliable data.

The learning path is Jira Cloud-first. Current Cloud documentation uses terms such as spaces and work items; many teams still say projects and issues. Data Center configurations and Jira Service Management requirements can differ, so the batch should match the environment you intend to use.

For product-specific terminology and behaviour, use Atlassian workflow guidance. Match the documentation to the environment used in your exercises.

Who Should Join?

You do not need coding for the core course. Basic computer skills and familiarity with team tasks are enough to begin. Understanding Agile concepts helps, but knowing how to use Jira is different from becoming a certified Scrum Master.

Scrum Masters and team leadsConnect planning and delivery discussions with a board that reflects the real workflow.

Testers and business analystsCreate clear work items, link related work and find useful information with filters.

Project coordinators and administratorsDevelop configuration skills while understanding the effect of shared workflows and permissions.

For complementary learning, explore Scrum Master training. Understand Agile facilitation alongside tool practice.

Jira Syllabus: 8 Practical Modules

Each module connects a concept to an exercise and an output you can explain. Work through the foundations before attempting the integrated project.

1. Jira foundations and environment choices

Understand spaces/projects, work items/issues, work types and hierarchy. Compare team-managed and company-managed setups and identify what your account can change. Output: a small practice space with a documented purpose and sensible work-item structure.

2. Backlogs, Scrum and Kanban boards

Create and refine a backlog, plan a sprint and map board columns to statuses. Compare time-boxed sprint work with continuous flow. Discuss why a board should reflect team practice rather than force unnecessary steps. Output: a working board with a clear definition of completion.

3. JQL, filters and information discovery

Build queries using fields, operators, values and ordering. Save useful filters and check who can see them. Explain that a shared filter cannot grant access to otherwise restricted work. Output: a filter pack for overdue, unassigned and recently completed work.

4. Workflows and configuration

Design statuses and transitions, then explore workflow schemes and work-type relationships in the relevant environment. Keep a change log and test a workflow before applying it broadly. Output: a simple approval flow with a documented reason for each state.

5. Fields, screens and permissions

Choose necessary fields and understand the relationship between configuration, roles and access. Avoid collecting information that nobody uses. Test with representative user permissions rather than an administrator account alone. Output: a role-based acceptance checklist for the practice setup.

6. Automation rules and audit logs

Create a rule with a clear trigger, conditions and actions. Check actor permissions, scope, execution limits and possible loops. Use the audit log to investigate a failed rule. Output: a controlled rule that performs a useful action without repeated or unintended changes.

7. Dashboards, reports and integrations

Choose reports that answer a team question, not simply fill a dashboard. Review sprint and flow indicators in context. Discuss app permissions and integration ownership before connecting a tool. Output: a concise dashboard with definitions for its key measures.

8. Administration project and handover

Combine a board, workflow, filters, roles and one tested automation. Demonstrate a normal user journey and a restricted-access case. Output: a configuration summary, test results and short handover guide explaining what the next administrator must maintain.

Discuss Your Learning Goals

Tell the team about your experience and preferred schedule. Book a free demo to discuss the course, lab access and the practical work expected from you.

Practical Skills You Will Develop

Use the exercises to build an explanation as well as a result. You should be able to show what you did, how you checked it and where the limits are.

Create usable boardsRepresent real work with clear statuses and ownership.

Find information with JQLBuild repeatable searches and responsibly shared filters.

Change configuration safelyUnderstand shared settings and test before wider use.

Automate routine actionsUse scoped rules with checks, audit trails and clear owners.

Tools and Lab Requirements

Use a dedicated Jira practice environment. Features, automation limits and app availability vary by plan. Confirm the training account, admin permissions and any paid-app requirements before the course begins.

Jira CloudPractise boards, work items, filters and configuration in a training environment.

JQL and dashboardsTurn team questions into searches and readable views.

Automation audit logsTrace rule execution and distinguish missing permissions from incorrect conditions.

Keep Atlassian workflow administration available when checking an exercise. Use the instructions for your installed version and authorized access level.

Your Learning Roadmap

Build confidence in stages. Practice time and your starting knowledge matter as much as the number of scheduled sessions.

1. Set up and understandCheck the prerequisites and lab access. Complete the first two modules and explain the basic workflow in your own words.

2. Build and investigateWork through the middle modules. Keep notes of errors, what you tried and the evidence that supported a fix.

3. Test and presentComplete the final modules and an integrated scenario. Present your output, validation and a short handover guide.

3 Practical Project Scenarios

These are teaching scenarios using approved lab systems and synthetic data. They are not claims about live client work or previous student results.

Software delivery workspaceBuild a backlog and Scrum board for a small fictional release. Add acceptance criteria and link testing work without creating unnecessary workflow complexity.

Operations Kanban boardDesign a continuous-flow board for requests. Define ownership, blocked work and completion so that the board supports daily decisions.

Controlled administration changeAdd a small workflow change and an automation rule, test with two roles and prepare a rollback and handover note.

How the Skills Work in Practice

A team marks tickets Done, but they disappear from one report and remain open in another. Start by checking the workflow status, board mapping, filter and resolution behaviour. A new dashboard will not fix inconsistent data.

Use a small test set and compare what a team member and an administrator can see. Record the cause, make the smallest appropriate change and verify the reports again. This is the kind of reasoning a useful Jira administrator needs.

Brolly Academy course completionAsk for the attendance, assignment and assessment requirements, the certificate wording and how completion will be verified.

Independent certificationUse official vendor information to check whether a relevant credential is currently offered and what preparation it requires. No vendor authorization, exam voucher or pass guarantee is implied.

Career Roles and Skill Applications

Match the learning path to a role, then compare its requirements with your existing experience. The course can support skill development; it does not guarantee employment.

Jira administratorMaintain configuration, access and a controlled change process.

Agile project coordinatorKeep planning information clear and support delivery reporting.

QA or business analystManage work-item quality, traceability and practical team queries.

You can also explore DevOps training. Explore the wider software-delivery workflow.

Where These Skills Are Used

Software delivery, support operations and business teams use work-tracking systems in different ways. A good Jira setup is based on the team process; adding more fields, states or apps does not automatically improve delivery.

Interview and Portfolio Preparation

Prepare evidence you can discuss clearly. Label practice work as training work and do not present a teaching scenario as paid client experience.

Explain a projectDescribe the requirement, your decisions, the result and one limitation. Be ready to answer what you would change for a real deployment.

Show useful evidenceKeep approved files, test results and a concise README or runbook. Remove secrets and private information before sharing a portfolio.

Discuss support servicesAsk the academy which resume, mock-interview or job-search services are included in your batch. Placement assistance is not a job or salary guarantee.

Salary and Hiring Expectations

Salary depends on the role, prior experience, location and the employer. A tool course alone does not establish a salary band. Compare recent job descriptions, required experience and responsibilities rather than relying on a headline income promise.

Meet the Trainer Through a Demo

Request the assigned trainer profile and discuss the experience most relevant to your goals. We recommend using the demo to evaluate how clearly the trainer explains a practical problem.

Relevant experienceAsk for examples of work with Jira that can be discussed without revealing confidential client information.

Practical explanationAsk the trainer to explain a failure scenario and how a learner would investigate it, rather than only showing a finished result.

Feedback and supportDiscuss how assignments are reviewed, how questions are handled and the support period included in the course.

Explore Learner Feedback

Read available academy feedback and ask whether a review relates to this particular course, trainer and delivery format. General academy reviews should not be mistaken for verified results from this new course.

Jira Training FAQs

Does Jira training require programming?

No for the core syllabus. JQL, boards, workflows and many automation tasks do not require general-purpose coding. Custom integrations or advanced scripting can introduce separate technical requirements.

Will I learn Cloud or Data Center?

This outline is Cloud-first and highlights terminology and administration differences. Tell the academy which environment your team uses so that the batch scope can be checked before enrolment.

Is JQL the same as SQL?

No. JQL searches Jira work items using Jira fields and operators. It is not a general database-query language and should not be taught as a way to directly modify Jira database records.

Can Jira training help a manual tester?

Yes. It can improve defect reporting, work-item links, filters and team visibility. It does not replace test-design skills or a broader software-testing foundation.

Will I receive an Atlassian certification?

The course-completion certificate is separate from an Atlassian credential. Any vendor exam, voucher, eligibility condition and renewal policy must be checked with Atlassian.

Can the course cover Jira Service Management?

The core path focuses on work tracking and administration. Service-management topics such as portals, queues and SLAs should be agreed as an additional or separate scope, not assumed to be included.
