Quick answer
A strong AML analyst resume is a one-to-two page, ATS-friendly document that leads with a short summary, lists AML skills in the exact words job descriptions use (KYC, CDD, EDD, transaction monitoring, sanctions screening, STR), and proves each claim with bullet points that show an action, a task and a measurable result. Recruiters at banks, global banks' operations centres, consulting firms and BPOs scan for three things first: do you understand the AML process, can you work accurately at volume, and can you write a clear case note. Freshers prove this with training, case-study projects and Excel skills. Experienced analysts prove it with alert volumes, quality scores and the types of cases they handled.
- Order: header, summary, core skills, experience (or projects for freshers), certifications and training, education
- Length: one page for freshers, up to two pages after about five years
- Words that matter: KYC, CDD, EDD, PEP, sanctions, adverse media, transaction monitoring, L1/L2 alerts, STR/SAR, case narrative, quality score
- Biggest mistake: listing duties ("responsible for KYC") instead of results ("completed 35 periodic KYC reviews a week at 99% quality")
Key takeaways
- Mirror the job description. Real Hyderabad and Bengaluru listings in October 2026 asked for KYC/CDD reviews, alert decisions, written case narratives, World-Check, Actimize and strong Excel, so use those words where they are true for you.
- Show numbers, but only your real ones. The sample numbers in this guide are illustrative; replace every one with your own figures.
- Freshers should replace "experience" with "AML projects": a KYC case study, an alert review and a sample STR narrative.
- Certifications such as CAMS and ICA appeared as "good to have" in the job descriptions we read, not as mandatory, so list them if you have them but do not hide your skills behind them.
- Keep the format plain: one column, standard headings, no tables or photos, saved as PDF or Word as the portal asks.
1. AML analyst resume structure at a glance
Short answer: Use six sections in a fixed order: header, professional summary, core skills, work experience (or projects), certifications and training, and education. Each section has one job, and recruiters expect to find it in the same place every time.
Here is the structure every sample in this guide follows.
Two optional sections help some candidates: Languages (some AML quality roles in Hyderabad listed a European or Asian language in the job title in October 2026) and Shift availability (several job descriptions mentioned night or rotational shifts).
Leave out your photo, date of birth, father's name, marital status, religion, full home address and a "Declaration" line. They take space and add nothing to your fit for the role.
2. What recruiters look for in an AML resume
Short answer: Recruiters match your resume against the job description. The October 2026 job descriptions we read asked for KYC, CDD and EDD reviews, alert review and escalation, written case narratives, knowledge of FATF and sanctions regimes, and strong Excel, and most accepted any graduate.
We read eleven AML and KYC job descriptions from India on 24 October 2026. A few examples show the pattern:
- A State Street AML Senior Associate listing in Hyderabad asked for KYC reviews on all entity types, World-Check searches, analysis of complex ownership structures, a minimum 99% quality score, night shifts if required, advanced Excel, and ACAMS or ICA certification as "good to have" (LinkedIn, October 2026).
- A Deutsche Bank AML monitoring and screening role for 0 to 3 years in Jaipur and Bengaluru described L1 review of transaction monitoring alerts, closing or escalating them, and named the Actimize, Fircosoft and Mantas platforms (Naukri, October 2026).
- A Guidehouse walk-in for KYC, AML and TMS roles in Hyderabad asked for L2 transaction monitoring investigations, SAR/STR narratives and the use of KYC, CDD and EDD data, with rotational shifts and any graduate eligible (Naukri, October 2026).
Across all eleven, tasks repeated: KYC/CDD/EDD reviews, alert review, escalation decisions, written narratives and STR support. Regulations named included FATF, the US Bank Secrecy Act (BSA), FATCA and OFAC, EU and UK sanctions. Most asked for "any graduate", some preferred finance or commerce, and certifications were listed as a plus. If you need the basics of the field first, start with our anti money laundering guide.
Keywords to know and how to use them
Recruiters and applicant tracking systems (ATS, the software that filters resumes) look for these terms. Use them only where they describe real work or training.
Indian facts worth knowing before you write
If you mention Indian reporting on your resume, get the details right, because interviewers check them. FIU-IND's FAQs say an STR must be filed promptly and not later than 7 working days after the reporting entity is satisfied a transaction is suspicious, with no minimum amount, and that CTRs cover cash transactions above ₹10 lakh and are due by the 15th of the following month (FIU-IND, October 2026). Commercial banks now follow the Reserve Bank of India (Commercial Banks – Know Your Customer) Directions, 2025, updated as on 1 October 2026; many job descriptions still say "RBI KYC Master Direction 2016", so you can name both (RBI, October 2026). Those Directions set periodic KYC updation at least every 2 years for high-risk, 8 years for medium-risk and 10 years for low-risk customers. This guide is education, not legal advice; check the current Act, Directions or notifications, or a lawyer, for your specific case.
3. How to write each section of an AML resume
Short answer: Write a three-line summary that names your process and one result, group 10 to 15 skills into clear buckets, and write experience bullets as action plus task plus result. Put certifications and education last unless you are a fresher.
Header
Write your name, city, phone, a professional email and your LinkedIn URL. Add a target title line such as "KYC Analyst | CDD, EDD, Sanctions Screening". That line helps a recruiter place you in two seconds.
Professional summary
Use this formula: [Title] with [X years] in [process] for [client type], skilled in [2 to 3 tasks], known for [one strength with a number].
- Fresher: "Commerce graduate trained in KYC, CDD and transaction monitoring, with three AML case-study projects, advanced Excel and a clear writing style. Ready to work rotational shifts."
- KYC analyst: "KYC analyst with 2 years in periodic reviews and onboarding for corporate and fund clients of a global bank. Skilled in beneficial ownership analysis and EDD. Consistent 99% quality score."
- TM analyst: "L2 transaction monitoring analyst with 4 years investigating escalated alerts for US and UK retail banking. Writes SAR/STR narratives and mentors L1 analysts."
Skip the old "objective" line ("seeking a challenging role"). It tells the recruiter nothing.
Core skills
Group keywords so the list reads like a map of the job:
- AML knowledge: KYC, CDD, EDD, PEP screening, sanctions screening, adverse media, transaction monitoring, typologies, STR/SAR writing
- Regulations: PMLA, FIU-IND reporting, RBI KYC Directions, FATF Recommendations, and BSA, OFAC or FATCA if your clients were US-based
- Tools: the case management, screening and monitoring tools you used, plus Excel and SQL
- Soft skills: attention to detail, written communication, time management
Experience
For each role: title, employer (or "Global bank operations centre" if you cannot name the client), city, dates, and 4 to 7 bullets. Start every bullet with a strong verb: reviewed, investigated, escalated, drafted, screened, verified, reduced, trained, audited.
Certifications and training
List name, issuing body and year. Examples: CAMS (ACAMS), ICA certificates, IIBF Certificate Examination in AML/KYC, and any course completion certificate. Write "in progress" with a target month if you have not finished.
Education
Degree, college, university, year. B.Com, BBA, M.Com and MBA are common in AML, but listings in October 2026 mostly accepted any graduate, so B.Sc, BA and B.Tech graduates should apply with confidence.
4. Sample resume 1: AML fresher (no experience)
Short answer: A fresher resume replaces work experience with AML training, three case-study projects and transferable skills. This sample uses a fictional name and fictional details; every number is illustrative.
On 24 October 2026, most "AML fresher" results on Naukri were BPO and recruitment-agency posts, while bank and Big Four AML roles usually asked for 1 to 3 years or more. That means your fresher resume must look closer to an analyst's resume than a typical fresher CV. For where to find fresher openings, see our guide to AML jobs for freshers.

- STR narrative: wrote a one-page case narrative on a fictional mule-account network covering who, what, when, why it was unusual and the recommendation
Internship and part-time work
- Accounts intern, a chartered accountant firm, Hyderabad (May to July 2025): reconciled bank statements for 15 small business clients in Excel and flagged 4 unexplained entries to the senior

- IIBF Certificate Examination in AML/KYC (planned, 2027)

Why this works: every line maps to a JD task (KYC, alert review, narrative writing, Excel). The projects use real AML vocabulary and show judgement, not just attendance.
5. Sample resume 2: KYC analyst with 2 years' experience
Short answer: At two years, show volume, quality, client types and the checks you can do without help. This sample is fictional and the numbers are illustrative.

This sample is fictional with illustrative numbers. For more on how alerts flow, see our guide to transaction monitoring.

40. Reduced new-joiner ramp-up from 12 weeks to 8 with a structured onboarding plan
9. How to word skills and tools honestly
Short answer: Group skills into buckets, use the exact tool names from the job description, and describe your level honestly: "used daily", "trained on" or "introduced to". Interviewers ask follow-up questions on every tool you list.
Job descriptions in October 2026 named World-Check, Actimize, Fircosoft and Mantas for operations roles, and SAS, SQL and Python for analytics roles. Freshers usually have not used licensed AML platforms, and recruiters know that. Saying you were "introduced to" a tool in training is honest and still earns the keyword match. Strong Excel, which appeared in most of the job descriptions, is the skill you can prove in an interview test.
10. ATS tips for AML resumes
Short answer: An ATS reads text, not design. Use a single-column layout, standard headings, plain fonts and the job description's exact words, and save in the format the portal asks for.
- Use standard headings: "Professional Summary", "Core Skills", "Experience", "Certifications", "Education". Creative headings confuse parsers.
- One column, no tables, text boxes, icons or photos. Many ATS tools read them in the wrong order or skip them.
- Write both the short form and the full form once: "Customer Due Diligence (CDD)", "Suspicious Transaction Report (STR)". Some systems search for one, some for the other.
- Match the JD's spelling: if it says "KYC/AML" or "Transaction Monitoring (TM)", use the same form somewhere.
- Tailor the summary and top skills for each application. A sanctions role and a KYC role should not get the same first three lines.
- Use a simple file name: "Ananya-Reddy-KYC-Analyst-Resume.pdf".
- Keep your Naukri and LinkedIn profiles in sync with your resume titles and dates. Recruiters compare them.
- Read the full JD, not just the tag. In October 2026, one Hyderabad fresher listing was tagged "Anti-Money Laundering (AML)" but its text described trust and safety content moderation. Tailor your resume to what the job actually involves.
11. Common AML resume mistakes and fixes
Short answer: The most common mistakes are listing duties instead of results, stuffing keywords you cannot explain, claiming tool experience you do not have, and revealing confidential client information.
Confidentiality deserves extra care. AML teams handle sensitive customer data, and the RBI's KYC Directions require that a customer's risk category and any STR stay confidential. A resume that names real customers or describes specific reports tells the recruiter you would not protect their data either.
12. AML cover letter template
Short answer: Keep the cover letter under 250 words: one line on the role, one paragraph matching your skills to the JD, one proof point, and a polite close. Many portals do not ask for one, but email applications and referrals benefit from it.
Copy this template and replace the parts in capitals.

Frequently asked questions
How do I write an AML analyst resume?
Write a one-to-two page resume with six sections: header, professional summary, core skills, experience or projects, certifications and education. Use the job description's words such as KYC, CDD, EDD, transaction monitoring and STR where they are true for you. Write each bullet as action plus task plus measurable result, and keep the layout to a single column so applicant tracking systems can read it.
What is the best resume format for an AML analyst?
A reverse-chronological format works best for most AML analysts because recruiters want to see your latest alert, KYC or investigation work first. Freshers can use a hybrid format that puts skills and AML projects above education. Keep one column, standard headings and plain fonts. Avoid tables, text boxes, photos and icons, since many applicant tracking systems read them in the wrong order.
How long should an AML resume be?
Keep it to one page if you are a fresher or have under two years of experience. Move to two pages only after about five years, when you have several roles, leadership work or audit experience to show. Recruiters skim, so cut anything that does not prove AML skills, accuracy, volume or judgement, such as personal details or a declaration line.
How do I write an AML resume as a fresher with no experience?
Replace work experience with an AML projects section: a KYC case study, a transaction monitoring alert exercise and a sample STR narrative. Add training, Excel skills, any finance internship and shift availability. Use real AML terms correctly. Most AML fresher results on Naukri in October 2026 were BPO and agency posts, so a resume that reads like an analyst's helps you stand out for bank roles.
What should a KYC analyst resume include?
A KYC analyst resume should show the client types you reviewed, such as individuals, corporates, funds or trusts, the checks you performed, including CDD, EDD, beneficial ownership and screening, your weekly review volume and your quality score. Name the screening tools you used, such as World-Check, and mention onboarding or periodic review work. Include Excel skills and any IIBF AML/KYC or ICA certificate.
What should a transaction monitoring analyst resume include?
It should state your level, L1 or L2, the alert volume you handle each day, the typologies you investigate, such as structuring, mule accounts or rapid movement of funds, and your quality or escalation accuracy. Mention the tool, such as Actimize, the regions you cover and whether you draft SAR or STR narratives. L2 analysts should also show coaching and analysis of L1 closures.
What skills should I put on an AML resume?
Put AML process skills first: KYC, CDD, EDD, PEP and sanctions screening, adverse media, transaction monitoring, typologies and STR or SAR writing. Add regulations such as PMLA, FIU-IND reporting, RBI KYC Directions and FATF Recommendations. Then list tools you actually used, Excel and SQL, and prove soft skills like attention to detail through bullets with quality scores and deadlines.
How do I write a professional summary for an AML resume?
Use a three-line formula: your title and years, the process and client type you work on, two or three key tasks, and one strength with a real number. For example, a KYC analyst with two years in periodic reviews for corporate clients, skilled in beneficial ownership and EDD, with a steady 99% quality score. Skip vague objective lines that only say you want a challenging role.
What are good AML resume bullet points?
Good AML bullets follow action verb plus task plus measurable result. Examples include completing 30 or more KYC reviews a week at 99% quality, reviewing 40 to 50 L1 alerts a day, closing false positives with documented rationale, or identifying a mule network and recommending exits. Always use your own real numbers, and only claim work you have actually done.
Should I list AML tools like Actimize on my resume if I only trained on them?
Yes, but describe the level honestly. Write introduced to Actimize and SAS AML in training rather than hands-on Actimize if you never had live access. Recruiters know freshers rarely use licensed AML platforms, and the honest wording still matches the keyword. Interviewers ask follow-up questions on every tool listed, so only include tools you can explain.
Which tools do AML job descriptions in India mention?
Job descriptions we read in October 2026 named World-Check for screening, and Actimize, Fircosoft and Mantas for monitoring and screening operations. Analytics roles asked for SAS, SQL and Python. Strong Excel appeared in most listings, including pivot tables, lookups and large data sets. List only the tools you have used or trained on, with your level of use.
Do I need CAMS certification to get shortlisted for AML jobs?
No. In the job descriptions we read in October 2026, certifications such as ACAMS, ICA, CFE and CFCS were listed as good to have or a plus, not as mandatory. List any certification you hold with the issuing body and year. If you are still preparing, write in progress with a target month, and never claim a certification before you pass it.
How should I show certifications on an AML resume?
Create a separate Certifications and Training section. List the certification name, issuing body and year, such as CAMS from ACAMS or the IIBF Certificate Examination in AML/KYC. Add course completion certificates with duration. For anything unfinished, write in progress with a target month. Freshers can place this section above education because it shows recent, relevant learning.
What keywords help an AML resume pass ATS?
Use the exact words from the job description, such as KYC, CDD, EDD, PEP, sanctions screening, adverse media, transaction monitoring, L1 or L2 alerts, STR or SAR, case narrative and quality score. Write the full form and short form once, such as Customer Due Diligence (CDD). Use standard headings and a single column so the applicant tracking system can read every keyword.
Should I mention STR filing on my resume?
Yes, describe your role in the process, but never share case details. Write that you drafted STR or SAR narratives or supported escalation for reporting, and add a volume if you have one. Do not name customers, amounts or specific reports, because the RBI's KYC Directions require STRs to stay confidential. Recruiters see careless detail as a warning sign about data handling.
How do I describe L1 and L2 work on a resume?
L1 means first review of alerts, so show daily alert volume, false-positive closures with rationale and escalation of suspicious patterns. L2 means deeper investigation of escalated alerts, so show how many months of activity you review, the typologies you handle, narratives you draft and coaching of L1 analysts. Use the terms L1 and L2 directly, because job descriptions use them.
What are common mistakes in an AML analyst resume?
The most common mistakes are listing duties instead of results, stuffing keywords you cannot explain, claiming tool experience you do not have, naming end clients or case details, using a generic objective line and leaving spelling errors in a role that is all about accuracy. Fix them with result-based bullets, honest tool wording, client descriptions like US retail bank client and a careful proofread.
Should I include my quality score on an AML resume?
Yes, if it is real and strong. AML operations teams track quality closely, and one Hyderabad AML job description in October 2026 asked for a minimum 99% quality score. A line such as maintained 99% quality across 18 months tells the recruiter you can work accurately at volume. If your score varied, show your best sustained period honestly.
Should I mention shift availability on an AML resume?
Yes, if you are open to it. Several AML job descriptions in October 2026 mentioned night shifts if required or rotational and client-aligned shifts, because teams support clients in other time zones. A short line such as available for rotational and night shifts can help, especially for freshers. Leave it out if you cannot work those hours, and discuss it at the interview.
How do I write an AML cover letter?
Keep it under 250 words. Name the role and company in the first line, match three skills from the job description to your experience or training, give one proof point with a real number, mention your knowledge of PMLA, FIU-IND reporting and the RBI KYC Directions, state your shift availability and notice period, and close politely. Check the company name before sending.
Can a B.Com or BBA graduate become an AML analyst?
Yes. B.Com, BBA, M.Com and MBA graduates are common in AML, and some listings prefer commerce or finance. Most job descriptions we read in October 2026 accepted any graduate, so B.Sc, BA and B.Tech graduates can apply too. Show AML training, case-study projects, Excel skills and clear writing to make up for the lack of experience.
How do I move from a BPO voice process to an AML role on my resume?
Highlight transferable work: customer document checks, accuracy targets, handling banking clients, meeting SLAs and written communication. Add an AML training section and projects such as a KYC case study and an alert review. Use AML keywords in your summary and target title line. Frame that experience as the first step into KYC work, as the KYC analyst sample in this guide does.
Should I add a photo or personal details to my AML resume?
No. Leave out your photo, date of birth, father's name, marital status, religion, full home address and a declaration line. These take space and add nothing to your fit for an AML role. Some applicant tracking systems also struggle with images. Use the space for skills, projects and results instead. City, phone, email and LinkedIn are enough contact details.
What should a senior AML investigator or team lead resume show?
Lead with team size, quality and SLA results, backlog reduction, audit and regulatory review support, process improvements and complex case types such as shell companies or trade-based laundering. Show that you review and approve SAR or STR recommendations and coach analysts. Two pages are fine at this level, but every line should prove leadership or investigation depth.
