Generative AI Resume 2026 guide by Brolly Academy

Quick answer

A strong generative AI resume shows, in one or two pages, that you can build working LLM applications: it leads with a short summary, lists GenAI skills that match the job description, and proves them with 2 to 4 projects or work bullets that name the tool, the task and a measured result. Recruiters in India scan for Python, LLM APIs, RAG, LangChain or LlamaIndex, vector databases, prompt engineering, evaluation and one cloud platform. Of the 12 GenAI job descriptions we read on Naukri and LinkedIn on 24 October 2026, all asked for Python and 11 asked for RAG. Your resume must use those words and back them with evidence, such as a GitHub link or a deployed demo.

  • Length: one page for freshers, up to two pages for experienced engineers
  • Must-have sections: header with links, summary, skills, projects, experience, education, certifications
  • Best proof: projects with a GitHub repo, a short README and numbers you measured yourself
  • ATS rule: plain layout, standard headings, and the exact keywords from the job post
  • Biggest mistake: vague lines like "worked on LLMs" with no tool, task or result

Key takeaways

  1. Match the job description first. Real Indian GenAI JDs repeat the same core stack: Python, LLM APIs, RAG, LangChain, vector databases, prompt engineering, evaluation and cloud.
  2. Every bullet needs an action, a tool and a result. "Built a RAG assistant with LlamaIndex and pgvector that answered 300 test questions with 85% graded accuracy" beats "worked on RAG".
  3. For freshers, projects are the experience. Some 0 to 2 year listings we read in October 2026 said internships and projects count, and that strong portfolios from fresh candidates may be considered.
  4. Certifications help but are rarely required. Only one of the 12 JDs we read mentioned GenAI certifications, and only as "preferred".
  5. Switchers should reframe, not restart. A Java developer, tester or data analyst already has skills that GenAI teams need; the resume must connect them to LLM work.

1. Generative AI resume at a glance

Short answer: A generative AI resume follows the normal resume order, but the skills, projects and bullets are written around LLM application work, and the emphasis changes with your experience level.

Use this table to see what each profile should put first. It is the plan the four sample resumes later in this post follow.

Profile Lead with Length Key proof Fresher (B.Tech, BCA, B.Sc, MCA) Summary, skills, 3 GenAI projects 1 page GitHub repos, demo links, internship Developer or tester switching (2 to 4 years) Summary, transferable work, 2 GenAI projects 1 to 2 pages GenAI work inside current job, side projects GenAI engineer (3 to 5 years) Summary, production LLM work, impact numbers 2 pages Live RAG or agent systems, evaluation, cost and latency Senior AI or LLM architect (8+ years) Summary, architecture decisions, leadership 2 pages Platform design, governance, team and business outcomes

Note: "generative AI resume" can also mean using AI to write or screen resumes. This post is about the resume you need to get a GenAI job. Using an AI assistant to polish wording is fine if every claim is true and you can explain it in an interview.

2. What recruiters look for in a generative AI resume

Short answer: Recruiters look for proof that you can build, evaluate and deploy LLM applications, written in the same words the job description uses, with Python, RAG, frameworks, vector databases and cloud at the top of the list.

We read 12 Generative AI job descriptions on Naukri and LinkedIn on 24 October 2026, from Capgemini, Infosys, Tech Mahindra, PwC, Tiger Analytics, Coforge, Wells Fargo, TCS, JPMorganChase, TVS Credit, Crisil and a recruiter hiring for a client. These are listings seen on that date, not hiring commitments. The themes below are what your resume must answer.

What JDs asked for (12 JDs, 24 Oct 2026) How often What to show on your resume Python All 12 Python in skills, plus projects or work written in Python LLMs and LLM APIs All 12 Named models or APIs you used (GPT, Gemini, Claude, open models on Hugging Face) RAG (retrieval-augmented generation) 11 of 12 A RAG project with chunking, embeddings, retrieval and evaluation LangChain / LangGraph 8 / 5 The framework named in the bullet, with what you built Vector databases Most FAISS, Pinecone, Chroma, pgvector or Azure AI Search, named Evaluation, hallucination and groundedness checks 5 named it clearly A test set, a metric and the result Agents and multi-agent frameworks Many senior JDs Tool calling, LangGraph, CrewAI, AutoGen or Semantic Kernel work Cloud (AWS, Azure or Google Cloud) Most experienced JDs One platform used for a real deployment Certifications 1 of 12, "preferred" A short certifications line, not the centre of the resume

Quick glossary: an LLM (large language model) predicts the next token, a word or part of a word. RAG retrieves chunks of your own documents and passes them to the LLM so answers stay grounded. An embedding is a list of numbers that captures meaning, stored in a vector database such as FAISS or Chroma. A hallucination is a confident false answer. An agent plans steps and calls tools. Fine-tuning trains a model further on your data; LoRA does it cheaply by training small added matrices.

Three more patterns shape how you write:

  1. New asks move fast. 2026 JDs named agent frameworks, MCP and A2A (protocols that connect agents to tools and to each other), guardrails, AI security and AI coding assistants.
  2. Card experience can understate the JD. Coforge's card said 3 to 8 years; the JD text asked for 6 to 15.
  3. Degrees are broad. Many listings said "Any Graduate"; TVS Credit and the recruiter listing asked for CS, Data Science, AI, Statistics or related degrees.

For a fuller view of roles, cities and companies, read our guide to Generative AI jobs in India. On 24 October 2026, Naukri showed about 10,953 results for "generative ai" across India, about 7,585 for "rag" and about 4,323 for "langchain" (Naukri, October 2026). These are keyword-match counts, not a count of open GenAI jobs, but they tell you which words recruiters search for.

3. Generative AI resume structure, section by section

Short answer: Use seven sections in this order: header, summary, skills, projects (or experience first if you have relevant GenAI work), experience, education and certifications, each written for the specific job you are applying to.

Header

  • Name, city (for example "Hyderabad, Telangana"), phone and a professional email
  • LinkedIn URL, GitHub URL, and a portfolio or demo link if you have one
  • A target title that matches the job post: "Generative AI Engineer", "Gen AI Developer", "LLM Engineer" or "AI Engineer". Freshers can use entry titles seen in October 2026 listings, such as "Generative AI Intern", "AI Engineer Intern" or "Associate Machine Learning Engineer"
  • Skip photo, date of birth, father's name, marital status and full address. Indian resumes often include them, but they add nothing for tech roles and take space

Summary (3 to 4 lines)

Use this formula: role + years + what you build + key tools + one proof point. The four samples in section 4 each show one.

Skills

Group skills so a recruiter can scan them in five seconds. Use the same names the JD uses.

  • Languages: Python, SQL
  • LLMs and APIs: GPT, Gemini, Claude APIs; open models on Hugging Face
  • Frameworks: LangChain, LangGraph, LlamaIndex, Hugging Face Transformers, PEFT
  • Retrieval: embeddings, chunking, reranking, FAISS, Chroma, Pinecone, pgvector
  • Evaluation and LLMOps: test sets, groundedness checks, LangSmith or MLflow tracing, Git, CI/CD
  • Cloud: one of Amazon Bedrock, Microsoft Foundry (formerly Azure AI Foundry) with Azure OpenAI, or Gemini Enterprise Agent Platform (formerly Vertex AI)
  • Deployment: REST APIs, FastAPI, Docker (only if you have used them)

Projects, experience, education, certifications

  • Projects: freshers put these above experience. Name, stack, 2 to 3 result bullets and a GitHub link (see section 7).
  • Experience: reverse chronological, 3 to 6 bullets per role. Lead with GenAI work, even if it was a small part of the job. Formula: action verb + what you built + tool + measured result.
  • Education: degree, college, year and CGPA if strong.
  • Certifications: issuer and year, one short list (see section 8).

Formatting rules that keep you ATS-safe

An ATS (applicant tracking system) is the software companies use to store, parse and search resumes. It reads text, not design.

  1. Use a single-column layout. Avoid tables, text boxes, icons and skill bars.
  2. Use standard headings: Summary, Skills, Projects, Experience, Education, Certifications.
  3. Save as PDF unless the portal asks for Word, and name the file "Firstname-Lastname-GenAI-Engineer.pdf".
  4. Use a common font at 10 to 12 points and consistent dates (for example "Jun 2024 to Present").
  5. Paste the exact keywords from the JD, but only where they are true.
  6. Keep it to one page for freshers and two pages at most for experienced profiles.

4. Four sample generative AI resumes

Short answer: Below are four fictional sample resumes, for a fresher, a Python developer moving to GenAI, a GenAI engineer with 3 to 5 years and a senior AI or LLM architect; copy the structure, then replace every detail and number with your own.

All four samples are fictional. The names, companies and numbers are invented to show format. Do not copy the metrics; measure your own.

5. 40 generative AI resume bullet examples by area

Short answer: Here are 40 bullets in eight groups (RAG, fine-tuning, prompt engineering, agents, evaluation, deployment and LLMOps, data pipelines and cloud AI services); adapt the wording, keep the action + tool + result pattern, and replace the numbers with ones you measured.

The numbers in these bullets are illustrative. Use them as a pattern, not as claims.

RAG systems

  1. Built a RAG assistant over 2,000 policy PDFs using LangChain and Chroma, with page-level citations, cutting staff lookup time from minutes to seconds.
  2. Improved retrieval accuracy from 68% to 86% on a 300-question test set by switching to semantic chunking and adding a reranker.
  3. Implemented hybrid search (keyword plus vector) in Azure AI Search, reducing "no answer found" responses by 30%.
  4. Added metadata filters (department, date, region) to a pgvector index so users only saw documents they were allowed to access.
  5. Designed an ingestion pipeline that re-embeds only changed documents, cutting nightly indexing time by 70%.

Fine-tuning

6. Fine-tuned an open 7B model with LoRA using Hugging Face PEFT on 5,000 labelled support tickets, raising classification accuracy from 78% to 91%.
7. Used QLoRA to fine-tune on a single GPU, keeping training cost within a small project budget.
8. Built and cleaned an instruction dataset of 3,000 examples, removing duplicates and personal data before training.
9. Compared a fine-tuned small model with a prompted large model on cost, latency and accuracy, and documented when each should be used.
10. Set up model versioning in MLflow so every fine-tuned checkpoint could be traced to its data and settings.

Prompt engineering

11. Wrote and versioned 60 prompt templates with few-shot examples for a support chatbot, cutting off-topic answers by 45%.
12. Designed structured JSON output prompts with schema validation, reducing parsing failures to under 1% of calls.
13. Built a prompt test harness that runs 200 test cases on every prompt change before release.
14. Reduced average prompt length by 35% without losing accuracy, lowering token cost per request.
15. Added system-level instructions and refusal rules that blocked out-of-scope financial advice in a banking assistant.

Agents and tool use

16. Built a LangGraph agent that queries a SQL database, summarises results and asks for human approval before sending reports.
17. Integrated 5 internal APIs as tools through MCP, letting an assistant check order status, refunds and delivery dates.
18. Designed a multi-agent workflow with CrewAI (researcher, writer, reviewer) that drafts first-pass market summaries for analysts.
19. Added step limits, timeouts and fallbacks to an agent, cutting failed or looping runs by 60%.
20. Logged every agent step and tool call for audit, meeting the client's compliance review requirements.

Evaluation

21. Created a 500-question golden test set with domain experts and ran it on every release to catch regressions.
22. Measured groundedness and hallucination rates with LLM-as-judge plus human spot checks, raising groundedness from 0.74 to 0.90.
23. Built a dashboard tracking answer quality, latency and cost per query across three model options.
24. Ran A/B tests between two prompt versions with 1,200 real user queries and shipped the version with higher user ratings.
25. Added red-team tests for prompt injection and data leakage, closing 12 issues before go-live.

Deployment and LLMOps

26. Deployed a RAG service as a FastAPI app in Docker on Kubernetes, serving 50,000 queries a month.
27. Set up CI/CD that runs unit tests, prompt tests and evaluation checks before each deployment.
28. Added LangSmith tracing to debug slow chains, cutting p95 latency from 6 seconds to 2.5 seconds.
29. Introduced response caching and model routing, reducing monthly LLM spend by 38%.
30. Built monitoring alerts for error rates, token usage spikes and drops in evaluation scores.

Data pipelines

31. Built a document pipeline that extracts text and tables from scanned PDFs with OCR and cleans it for embedding.
32. Wrote Python ETL jobs that pull data from SharePoint and Confluence nightly into a vector index.
33. Masked personal data (names, phone numbers, PAN) before documents reached the LLM.
34. Deduplicated 40,000 documents, shrinking the index by 25% and improving retrieval precision.
35. Designed SQL tables to store prompts, responses, user feedback and evaluation scores for analysis.

Cloud AI services

Weak bullet, strong bullet: here is the change in one line.

Weak Strong Worked on a chatbot using LLMs Built a LangChain RAG chatbot over 1,500 HR documents; 84% correct on a 200-question test set Did prompt engineering Wrote 30 versioned prompts with JSON output; parsing errors fell from 9% to under 1% Familiar with AWS Deployed a Bedrock-based summariser with Lambda and S3, used by 120 claims staff

6. Skills section by level and ATS keyword list

Short answer: List skills that match your level honestly, grouped by category, and include the exact keywords Indian GenAI JDs use, such as Python, LLM, RAG, LangChain, LangGraph, vector database, embeddings, prompt engineering, fine-tuning, evaluation and your cloud platform.

Skills by level

Level Core skills Frameworks and tools Cloud and ops Fresher Python, SQL, Git, prompt engineering, basic ML LangChain or LlamaIndex, Hugging Face, Chroma or FAISS One cloud at a basic level, Streamlit demos 2 to 4 years Python, APIs, RAG, embeddings, testing LangChain, pgvector or Pinecone, FastAPI Bedrock, Azure OpenAI or Gemini platform; Docker 3 to 5 years (GenAI engineer) RAG at scale, agents, evaluation, fine-tuning LangGraph, LlamaIndex, PEFT/LoRA, LangSmith, MLflow Kubernetes, CI/CD, cost and latency tuning Senior / architect Platform design, governance, security Multi-agent frameworks, MCP, A2A, guardrails Multi-cloud, model gateways, observability

ATS keyword list from real JDs

These keywords appeared in the GenAI job descriptions we read on Naukri and LinkedIn on 24 October 2026. Use only the ones you can back up.

  • Core: Python, SQL, Generative AI, GenAI, LLM, large language models, NLP, transformers
  • Retrieval: RAG, retrieval-augmented generation, advanced RAG, hybrid RAG, Graph RAG, embeddings, chunking, reranking, citations
  • Frameworks: LangChain, LangGraph, LlamaIndex, CrewAI, AutoGen, Semantic Kernel, Microsoft Agent Framework, Hugging Face
  • Vector stores: vector database, FAISS, Pinecone, Chroma, ChromaDB, Weaviate, pgvector, Azure AI Search, Cosmos DB
  • Models and APIs: OpenAI API, Azure OpenAI, Anthropic, Google Gemini, LLaMA, Mistral, LLM APIs, REST APIs
  • Training: fine-tuning, LoRA, PEFT, quantization, PyTorch, TensorFlow, scikit-learn
  • Agents: agentic AI, multi-agent systems, tool orchestration, MCP, A2A, human in the loop
  • Quality and safety: evaluation, groundedness, hallucination checks, observability, guardrails, Responsible AI, prompt-injection defences, OWASP LLM Top 10, NIST AI RMF, AI red teaming
  • Ops and cloud: MLOps, LLMOps, CI/CD, Git, Docker, Kubernetes, FastAPI, AWS SageMaker, Amazon Bedrock, Lambda, S3, ECS, EKS, Azure AI Foundry, GCP

Two quick tips. First, write both forms of key terms once, such as "RAG (retrieval-augmented generation)" and "LLM (large language model)", because recruiters search either form. Second, Microsoft now calls Azure AI Foundry "Microsoft Foundry", and Google moved Vertex AI into Gemini Enterprise Agent Platform on 22 April 2026. JDs still use the old names, so write "Microsoft Foundry (Azure AI Foundry)" or "Gemini Enterprise Agent Platform (Vertex AI)" to match both.

7. Projects section: generative AI projects for resume and GitHub links

Short answer: Pick 2 to 4 projects that mirror the job description, host each on GitHub with a clear README and a demo, and describe each on your resume with the problem, the stack and a measured result.

Projects are the strongest proof on a fresher's generative AI resume. One 0 to 2 year listing we read on 24 October 2026 said internships and projects count as experience, and TVS Credit's listing said strong project portfolios from fresh candidates may be considered. For more ideas, see our list of generative AI projects for beginners.

Five projects that match what JDs ask for

  1. RAG assistant over real documents: college rules, a company's public annual reports, or government scheme PDFs. Show chunking, embeddings, citations and a test set.
  2. Structured data extractor: pull fields from invoices, resumes or forms into JSON with validation. Shows prompt engineering and reliability.
  3. Tool-using agent: an agent that queries a SQL database or calls an API, with step limits and a human approval step.
  4. Evaluation harness: a small app that runs a test set against two prompts or two models and reports accuracy, cost and latency.
  5. Fine-tuned small model: a LoRA fine-tune for a narrow task, such as classifying support tickets, compared with a prompted model.

GitHub checklist for every project

  • A README with the problem, a screenshot or GIF, the architecture as a numbered flow, setup steps and results
  • A requirements file and clear folder structure
  • An evaluation section: test set size, metric and score
  • No API keys or personal data in the repo; use environment variables
  • A live demo link (Hugging Face Spaces or Streamlit) if possible
  • Pin your 3 best repos on your GitHub profile and match the titles to your resume

On the resume, use three lines per project: title and link, stack, and two measured results, as in Sample 1. Your LinkedIn profile should match: same title, same project names and the same skills, so a recruiter who checks both sees one clear story.

8. Certifications section

Short answer: Add one or two relevant certifications in a short section near the end; they can support a switch or a fresher profile, but projects and work results matter more, and only one of the 12 JDs we read mentioned certifications at all.

PwC's GenAI data scientist JD listed "relevant AI/GenAI certifications preferred". No other JD we read on 24 October 2026 asked for one. So use certifications as supporting proof, not as your main selling point. Current options that fit a GenAI resume include:

Certification Issuer Key facts (official page, October 2026) Good for Generative AI Leader Google Cloud 90 minutes, 50 to 60 questions, $99, valid 3 years, no prerequisites Non-technical, managers, early-career profiles AWS Certified AI Practitioner (AIF-C01) AWS 65 questions, 90 minutes, $100, valid 3 years Freshers and switchers Azure AI Apps and Agents Developer Associate (AI-103) Microsoft Intermediate, 120 minutes, Python and Microsoft Foundry, price by country Developers on the Microsoft stack

You can check the details on the Google Cloud Generative AI Leader page, the AWS Certified AI Practitioner page and the Microsoft AI-103 certification page (all checked October 2026). Note that Microsoft's older Azure AI Engineer Associate (AI-102) is retired, so do not list it as a target. If you hold it already, keep it with its year. Our Generative AI certification guide compares the full list, including AWS, NVIDIA and Databricks options.

How to write it:

  • AWS Certified AI Practitioner, Amazon Web Services, 2026
  • Google Cloud Generative AI Leader, Google Cloud, 2026
  • Course completion certificates go under "Training", not "Certifications", unless the job asks for them

9. Rewriting your resume when you switch into GenAI

Short answer: Keep your past roles, but rewrite the bullets to highlight the skills GenAI teams need (Python, APIs, testing, data, domain knowledge), add any GenAI work you did inside your job, and back it with two strong side projects.

Many people moving into GenAI in India come from IT services and GCC roles in Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Pune and Chennai. Here is how each background should reframe.

Background Skills to bring forward GenAI angle to add Java or .NET developer APIs, microservices, system design, production support Build a RAG or agent service; note that some JDs (Tech Mahindra) accept Python and/or .NET with Semantic Kernel Python developer Python, APIs, data pipelines, cloud Add RAG, embeddings and LLM API work; this is the shortest path Manual or automation tester Test design, regression suites, defect analysis LLM evaluation, test sets, hallucination checks, AI testing; JDs ask for evaluation and observability Data analyst SQL, Excel, Python, business reporting Text-to-SQL assistants, document extraction, insight summaries Marketer or content writer Content, campaigns, audience research Prompt workflows, AI content operations; aim for AI product or content roles rather than engineering titles

Rewrite example for a tester:

  • Before: "Executed 400 manual test cases for a banking web app."
  • After: "Designed 400 test cases and a regression suite for a banking app; now applying the same approach to build a 200-question evaluation set for an LLM chatbot project."

Be honest about timelines. Put side projects in a "Projects" section with dates, and do not stretch them into job experience.

10. Common generative AI resume mistakes

Short answer: The most common mistakes are vague bullets, keyword stuffing without proof, tool lists with no projects, no links, and claims you cannot explain in an interview.

  1. "Worked on LLMs." Say what you built, with which tool and what result.
  2. Listing 40 tools. A long tool list with no projects looks like copying. List what you used and show it.
  3. No GitHub or demo link. For GenAI roles, a link is often the deciding factor.
  4. Repos with secrets. Leaked API keys in a public repo look careless; recruiters do check.
  5. Copying a sample resume word for word. Recruiters see the same samples. Use them for structure only.
  6. Ignoring the JD. Send a tailored resume for each role; change the summary, skill order and top bullets.
  7. Old product names only. Write "Microsoft Foundry (Azure AI Foundry)" so both names match.
  8. Overclaiming. "Built a GPT-like model from scratch" invites hard questions. Interviewers probe every line; see our Generative AI interview questions to prepare.
  9. No numbers at all. Even a small test set result ("82% on 150 questions") beats none.
  10. Treating the job tag as truth. Some listings tagged 0 years are senior roles. Read the JD before you tailor your resume.

11. Short cover letter sample

Short answer: Keep a GenAI cover letter to about 150 words: the role, one project or result that matches the JD, why this company, and a call to talk.

Many portals do not ask for one, but a short note helps for direct emails, referrals and startup roles. Here is a fictional sample.

Dear Hiring Manager,

I am applying for the Generative AI Engineer role in Hyderabad. I am a 2026 B.Tech (CSE) graduate who builds LLM applications in Python.

Your JD asks for RAG, LangChain and vector databases. My CampusDocs project is a RAG assistant over 120 policy PDFs, built with LangChain, Chroma and the Gemini API. I created a 150-question test set and raised correct answers from 64% to 83% by tuning chunking and adding reranking. The code and demo are on my GitHub.

During my internship, I wrote and tested 40 prompt templates for a support chatbot and built a simple evaluation sheet that caught wrong answers before release.

I would value a chance to discuss how I can help your team ship reliable GenAI features.

Regards,
Ananya Reddy

Frequently asked questions

How do I write a generative AI resume?

Start with the job description and mirror its keywords. Then write a short summary, a grouped skills list, 2 to 4 projects or work bullets that name the tool, the task and a measured result, and add education and certifications at the end. Keep a single-column, ATS-friendly layout, include GitHub and LinkedIn links, and limit it to one page as a fresher or two pages if you are experienced.

What should a generative AI engineer resume include?

It should include a header with GitHub and LinkedIn, a three to four line summary, skills grouped by category, production or project work with RAG, agents, evaluation and deployment, plus education and certifications. Recruiters look for Python, LLM APIs, RAG, LangChain or LlamaIndex, vector databases, prompt engineering and one cloud platform, because these appeared most often in the job descriptions we read.

How do I write a generative AI resume as a fresher with no experience?

Put projects above experience and treat them as your work history. Build two or three projects such as a RAG assistant, a data extractor and a tool-using agent, host them on GitHub with a README and test results, and describe each with numbers. Some 0 to 2 year listings we read said internships and projects count, and one said strong portfolios from fresh candidates may be considered.

What skills should I list on a generative AI resume?

List Python and SQL, LLM APIs such as GPT, Gemini or Claude, prompt engineering, embeddings, chunking and RAG, a framework like LangChain or LlamaIndex, a vector database such as FAISS, Chroma or Pinecone, evaluation methods, Git, and one cloud AI service. Add agents, fine-tuning with LoRA and LLMOps tools as you gain experience. Only list skills you can show in a project.

What keywords make a generative AI resume ATS-friendly?

Use the exact terms from the job post. Common ones in Indian GenAI JDs are Python, LLM, Generative AI, RAG, LangChain, LangGraph, LlamaIndex, vector database, FAISS, Pinecone, embeddings, prompt engineering, fine-tuning, LoRA, evaluation, guardrails, MLOps, LLMOps, Amazon Bedrock and Azure OpenAI. Write both short and long forms once, such as RAG and retrieval-augmented generation.

Which generative AI projects should I put on my resume?

Choose projects that mirror the job description. A RAG assistant over real documents, a structured data extractor, a tool-using agent, an evaluation harness comparing prompts or models, and a small LoRA fine-tune cover most of what JDs ask for. Two to four well-documented projects with GitHub links and measured results are better than ten unfinished ones.

How do I describe a RAG project on my resume?

Name the documents, the stack and the result in one or two lines. For example, say you built a RAG assistant over 300 policy PDFs with LangChain, pgvector and the Gemini API, that it gives page citations, and that it scored 82% on a 150-question test set. Mention chunking or reranking changes if they improved accuracy, and link the GitHub repo.

Should I put generative AI certifications on my resume?

Yes, add one or two relevant certifications in a short section near the end, but do not make them the centre of your resume. Only one of the 12 JDs we read mentioned certifications, and only as preferred. Projects and work results matter more. Good current options include Google Cloud Generative AI Leader, AWS Certified AI Practitioner and Microsoft's AI-103 associate.

How long should a generative AI resume be?

One page is right for freshers and most people with under three years of experience. Experienced GenAI engineers and architects can use two pages, but no more. Recruiters scan quickly, so put your strongest GenAI project or production work in the top half of the first page and remove older, unrelated detail to make space.

What is a good resume summary for a generative AI engineer?

A good summary states your role, years of experience, what you build, your main tools and one proof point in three or four lines. For example, a Generative AI engineer with five years in ML, three spent shipping RAG and agent systems on Azure OpenAI, with evaluation pipelines and cost tracking. Tailor it to each job.

How do I add GitHub to a generative AI resume?

Put your GitHub profile URL in the header and add a direct repo link next to each project. Make sure every linked repo has a README with the problem, a screenshot, setup steps and evaluation results, and that no API keys are committed. Pin your three best repos and match their names to the projects on your resume.

How can a Java developer rewrite their resume for generative AI roles?

Keep your Java roles but bring forward API design, microservices, system design and production support, which GenAI teams need. Add any GenAI work from your job, then build a RAG or agent project in Python. Some JDs, such as one from Tech Mahindra, accept Python and/or .NET with Semantic Kernel, so mention related stack experience where it fits.

How can a software tester move to a generative AI resume?

Reframe test design, regression suites and defect analysis as evaluation skills. GenAI JDs ask for evaluation, hallucination checks and observability, which suit testers well. Build a project with an LLM evaluation set of a few hundred questions, measure accuracy before and after changes, and write bullets that link your testing background to LLM quality work.

What is the difference between a gen AI developer resume and an LLM engineer resume?

They overlap heavily, and many companies use the titles loosely. A gen AI developer resume usually stresses building applications with LLM APIs, RAG and frameworks like LangChain. An LLM engineer resume often adds deeper model work such as fine-tuning with LoRA, evaluation pipelines and serving. Match the title and emphasis to the specific job post.

Should I mention prompt engineering on my resume?

Yes, but show it with results rather than as a standalone label. Write bullets like versioning 30 prompt templates with JSON output that cut parsing errors, or building a prompt test harness that runs on every change. Prompt engineering appears in most GenAI JDs, but it is valued as part of building applications, not as a separate skill on its own.

What are common mistakes on generative AI resumes?

The most common mistakes are vague bullets like worked on LLMs, long tool lists with no projects, missing GitHub links, API keys leaked in public repos, copying sample resumes word for word, ignoring the job description, and claims you cannot explain in an interview. Fix these by writing action, tool and result bullets and tailoring each application.

Can I use ChatGPT to write my generative AI resume?

You can use an AI assistant to improve wording, check grammar and suggest keywords, but every claim must be true and in your own words. Recruiters see many AI-written resumes that sound the same, and interviewers will ask about every line. Use AI to polish, then add your real projects, tools and measured numbers yourself.

How do I quantify impact on a generative AI resume?

Measure what you can: accuracy on a test set, groundedness scores, response time, cost per query, documents indexed, users served or time saved. Freshers can report results like 83% correct on 150 test questions. Experienced engineers can show latency cuts, cost reductions or handling-time savings. Never invent numbers; build a small test set and measure.

Do I need a cover letter for generative AI jobs?

Most job portals do not require one, but a short cover letter helps for direct emails, referrals and startup roles. Keep it to about 150 words: the role, one project or result that matches the job description, why this company, and a request to talk. Link your GitHub so the reader can check your work.

What does a generative AI resume sample for experienced engineers look like?

It leads with a summary of years and production GenAI work, then experience bullets on RAG systems, agents, evaluation pipelines, guardrails and cost or latency gains, followed by skills, education and certifications. Our sample for a three to five year engineer shows a policy assistant used by thousands of staff, a golden test set and a cost cut through model routing.

How do freshers get shortlisted for AI engineer roles?

Tailor each resume to the job description, show two or three GenAI projects with GitHub links and test results, and list Python, LLM APIs, RAG and a vector database clearly. Read the full JD, because some listings tagged 0 years are senior roles. Internships, even short ones, add weight, and a demo link makes your work easy to check.

Which job titles should I use on my generative AI resume?

Use the title from the job post in your header, such as Generative AI Engineer, Gen AI Developer, LLM Engineer or AI Engineer. Freshers can target Generative AI Intern, AI Engineer Intern or Associate Machine Learning Engineer. Matching the title helps the ATS and the recruiter connect your resume to the role in seconds.

Should I include old product names like Vertex AI or Azure AI Foundry?

Yes, include both names once. Google moved Vertex AI into Gemini Enterprise Agent Platform on 22 April 2026, and Microsoft now calls Azure AI Foundry Microsoft Foundry, but many JDs still use the old names. Writing Microsoft Foundry with Azure AI Foundry in brackets, or the Google equivalent, lets your resume match either search.

How much does a generative AI engineer earn in India?

AmbitionBox showed a typical range of 9.2 to 10.1 lakh rupees a year for Generative AI Engineers in India in October 2026, based on 632 salaries across 0 to 13 years of experience. That is a typical range across all levels, not an offer. Freshers usually start lower, and engineers with production RAG, agents and cloud deployment earn more.
