Generative AI Jobs for Freshers 2026 guide by Brolly Academy

Quick answer

Yes, a fresher can get a generative AI job in India, but true 0-experience GenAI roles are a small slice of the market, so most freshers enter through internships, "0 to 2 years" engineer or data scientist roles, or Python and AI developer fresher roles, and win them with projects rather than certificates. On 24 October 2026, Naukri showed about 10,953 results for "generative ai" across India, but only 284 when filtered to 0 years of experience, and many of those were internships or senior roles tagged wrongly. That is roughly 3 in every 100 results. The good news: the fresher listings we read asked for Python, LLM basics, RAG and a portfolio, all of which you can learn and show in about three months.

  • Entry titles seen: Generative AI Intern, AI/ML Intern, AI Engineer Intern, Associate Machine Learning Engineer, AI and Python Developer (fresher), Generative AI Engineer (0 to 2 years), Data Scientist GenAI (0 to 2 years)
  • Typical asks: Python, LLM APIs, prompt engineering, RAG, a vector database, SQL, Git and two or three real projects
  • Fresher pay signal: one 0 to 2 year listing showed ₹4 to 8 lakh a year; a recruiter's fresher role showed ₹4 lakh CTC; internships ranged from unpaid to ₹25,000 a month (Naukri, October 2026)
  • Where they sit: Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Delhi/NCR, Mumbai and Pune lead, and most are office-based
  • Best route: build projects, apply for internships and "0 to 2 years" roles together, and use adjacent jobs (Python developer, data analyst, tester) as a bridge

Key takeaways

  1. Naukri's 0-year filter returned 284 "generative ai" results against 10,953 overall on 24 October 2026, so plan for a competitive, internship-heavy entry.
  2. Read the job description, not the tag. Some "0 years" listings were senior roles, and some experienced job cards understated what the JD asked.
  3. Every fresher JD we read asked for Python; most also named LLM APIs, prompt engineering, RAG and vector databases.
  4. "Prompt engineer" is not a common fresher title. Most prompt-engineer salaries on AmbitionBox come from AI-training and annotation firms.
  5. A portfolio of two or three working GenAI projects on GitHub matters more than any single certificate for a fresher.

1. Generative AI jobs for freshers at a glance

Short answer: Freshers enter generative AI through five main doors: internships, 0 to 2 year engineer roles, fresher Python and AI developer roles, entry data science roles, and AI training or evaluation work. Each needs a slightly different skill mix.

Use this table as your map. Every row is based on listings we read on Naukri and LinkedIn on 24 October 2026. Pay figures are what those listings showed, not market averages.

Entry route What you do Pay signal seen (Oct 2026) Generative AI or AI/ML intern Help build prototypes, clean data, test prompts, run evaluations Unpaid to ₹25,000 a month Generative AI engineer (0 to 2 years) Build LLM features, RAG pipelines and API integrations One listing showed ₹4 to 8 lakh a year AI and Python developer (fresher) Python coding with basic AI/ML and GenAI work One recruiter listing showed ₹4 lakh CTC Data scientist, GenAI (0 to 2 years) LLM, RAG and agent work on business data Not disclosed on the card AI training, annotation or evaluation Rate, correct and write model outputs; check for errors AmbitionBox prompt-engineer pay is mostly this kind of work

Here is how a typical fresher journey into GenAI flows, step by step:

  1. Learn: Python, LLM basics, prompting, RAG
  2. Build: two or three GenAI projects on GitHub
  3. Enter: internship, 0 to 2 year role, or an adjacent role with GenAI tasks
  4. Grow: generative AI engineer or AI engineer after one to three years
  5. Specialise: agents, evaluation, LLMOps or a domain such as banking or pharma

If you want the full market view for experienced roles, read our guide to generative AI jobs in India. This page stays focused on freshers.

2. Reality check: how many generative AI jobs accept freshers?

Short answer: Very few listings are truly open to 0 years. On 24 October 2026, Naukri returned 284 "generative ai" results with a 0-year filter, about 2.6% of the 10,953 overall results, and that 284 included internships and some clearly mis-tagged senior roles.

We searched Naukri for "generative ai" while logged out on 24 October 2026. These are keyword-match counts. They change daily, include duplicates and recruiter re-posts, and are never a count of open GenAI jobs. Still, the gap between the two numbers tells you a lot.

Naukri search, 24 Oct 2026 Results shown "generative ai", all India 10,953 "generative ai", 0 years experience filter 284 "generative ai", Hyderabad 2,258 "generative ai", Bengaluru 4,007 "generative ai", Pune 1,596 "generative ai", Chennai 1,138

What the 284 results looked like when we opened the page:

  • Location: Delhi/NCR 51, Bengaluru 48, Hyderabad 47 and Mumbai 35 led the location filter.
  • Work mode: 251 were work from office, 23 remote and 10 hybrid.
  • Stipend: 56 were marked "Unpaid".
  • Education: "Any Graduate" appeared on 219 and B.Tech/B.E. on 49 (the filters overlap).
  • Mis-tags: page one mixed real entry roles with senior ones, such as an HDFC Bank "Unit Head - Generative AI Validation" and a SimCorp "Lead .Net Developer" both tagged 0 years.

Why so few? The experienced JDs we read asked for a lot. Capgemini's Senior AI Engineer card said 3 to 8 years, PwC asked for 4 or more, Wells Fargo and Tech Mahindra 5 or more, and TCS 8 to 10 years. Job cards can also understate the real ask: a Coforge card said 3 to 8 years, but its JD text said 6 to 15 years.

So what does this mean for you?

  • You are competing for a small pool, so apply widely and early.
  • "0 to 2 years" listings are your sweet spot. One said internships and projects count as experience; another said strong portfolios from fresh candidates may be considered.
  • Adjacent fresher jobs (Python developer, data analyst, software tester) where you use GenAI tools are a valid first step. Many people move into GenAI titles after a year or two.

The wider trend is on your side. The WEF Future of Jobs Report 2025 (January 2025) lists AI and big data as the fastest-growing skills and AI and machine learning specialists among the fastest-growing jobs to 2030. Demand is real; it just favours people who can show proof of skill.

3. Entry-level generative AI job titles for freshers and what each does

Short answer: The entry titles we actually saw were Generative AI Intern, AI/ML Intern, AI Engineer Intern, Associate Machine Learning Engineer, AI and Python Developer (fresher), Generative AI Engineer (0 to 2 years) and Data Scientist GenAI (0 to 2 years). AI evaluation and annotation work is a separate, lower-paid entry door.

Titles vary by company, so search for all of them. Here is what each one means in plain words.

Generative AI intern or AI/ML intern

You support a team building GenAI features. Crisil's Generative AI Intern listing in Pune (0 to 2 years) asked for strong Python, basic knowledge of LLMs (large language models, the AI models that read and write text), prompt engineering, transformers, OpenAI APIs, Hugging Face (preferred), NumPy and Pandas. The tasks named were data preprocessing, fine-tuning support, evaluation and building prototypes. Other intern titles we saw in October 2026 included Inspired Infotech's "Generative AI Intern" in Hyderabad, an Orient Electric "Intern in IT / Generative AI" in New Delhi, and on LinkedIn, Sony Research India's "LLM Research Intern" in Bengaluru, Tower Research Capital's "Intern - AI/ML" in Gurgaon, Revvity's "Full-Stack AI Engineering Intern" in Thane and RingTrunk's "Agentic AI Intern" in Hyderabad.

Generative AI engineer (0 to 2 years)

This is the title most freshers want. Jobaaj.com, hiring on behalf of a client, listed a "Generative AI Engineer / Artificial Intelligence Engineer" role for Pune, Gurugram and Bengaluru at 0 to 2 years, with 20 openings. The JD asked for Python, LLM APIs (OpenAI, Anthropic, Google Gemini, Hugging Face), LangChain or LlamaIndex, RAG, fine-tuning, prompt engineering, TensorFlow, PyTorch or scikit-learn, vector databases, REST APIs, SQL and cloud basics. Note that it is a recruiter listing, so the end employer was not named.

Associate machine learning engineer

A broader ML title where GenAI is part of the work. CapeStart listed an "Associate Machine Learning Engineer" role in Nagercoil for 0 to 2 years. Expect a mix of classic ML, data work and LLM tasks.

AI and Python developer (fresher)

A coding-first role with some AI. A recruiter, Hindustan Consulting Services, listed an "AI & Python Developer Fresher 2026" role in Hyderabad for an unnamed MNC, open to B.Tech graduates of any branch, 2026 pass-outs only. It asked for Python, AI/ML concepts, a basic understanding of generative AI, SQL, object-oriented programming and data structures, and said relevant training in Python or AI was preferred.

Data scientist, GenAI (0 to 2 years)

TVS Credit listed a "Data Scientist - Generative AI (LLM | RAG | Agentic AI)" role in Bengaluru for 0 to 2 years. It wanted a BE, B.Tech, M.Tech, M.Sc or MCA in CS, data science, AI/ML or statistics, plus Python, LLMs, prompt engineering, LangChain or LangGraph, embeddings, vector databases, RAG, SQL, REST APIs and Git.

Prompt engineer (fresher)

Here is the honest part. We did not see "prompt engineer" as a distinct fresher job category on the portals in October 2026. On the AmbitionBox Prompt Engineer page (October 2026), the employers with the most reported salaries included Nvidia, Zensar, SoftAge, Soul AI and Outlier, which suggests many "prompt engineer" salaries come from AI-training and data-annotation contract work, not from building LLM apps. Prompting is a skill every GenAI role uses. It is rarely a whole job on its own for a fresher.

AI evaluator, AI QA or data annotator

These roles check, rate and correct AI outputs, or write examples that train models. Some of this is called RLHF work (reinforcement learning from human feedback, where people's ratings teach a model which answers are better). Evaluation is also a growing skill inside engineer JDs: TCS's GenAI engineer JD named checking answers for groundedness and hallucination (when a model states something false with confidence), and JPMorganChase's JD named offline test sets and regression checks. For a fresher, annotation or evaluation work can be a paid way in, but treat it as a stepping stone and keep building engineering skills.

4. Eligibility for generative AI fresher jobs: degree, branch and coding

Short answer: Most fresher GenAI listings accept any graduate, but technical roles strongly prefer B.Tech, BCA, B.Sc, MCA or similar degrees in CS, IT, data science, AI or statistics, plus working Python. Non-CS graduates can get in, but they must prove coding skill through projects.

What we saw in the October 2026 listings:

Requirement What listings said What it means for you Degree "Any Graduate" on most Naukri cards; CS, DS, AI or Stats degrees for TVS Credit and Jobaaj Any degree can apply, but a technical degree helps for engineer roles Branch "B.Tech, any branch" on one Hyderabad fresher role Mechanical, ECE and civil students are not shut out Batch "2026 pass-outs only" on one fresher listing Some roles are campus-batch specific; check the year Coding Python on every JD we read Non-negotiable for technical GenAI roles Certification Only PwC (an experienced role) said "certifications preferred" Not required for freshers

Who fits where:

  • B.Tech CSE/IT, BCA, MCA: aim straight at GenAI intern and 0 to 2 year engineer roles.
  • B.Sc (maths, statistics, CS) and M.Sc: data scientist GenAI roles and analyst roles suit you.
  • B.Tech in non-CS branches: learn Python well, then target fresher AI and Python developer roles and internships.
  • B.Com, BBA, BA graduates: start with AI evaluation, AI content or AI marketing internships, and learn Python if you want engineering roles later.

If you are starting from zero, our generative AI for beginners guide covers the first steps before you job-hunt.

5. Where freshers find generative AI jobs and internships

Short answer: Freshers find GenAI roles through Naukri and LinkedIn searches with experience filters, internship listings, campus drives, recruiter-posted fresher batches and startups. Work from office dominates, and Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Delhi/NCR, Mumbai and Pune have the most entry listings.

Job portals with the right filters

On Naukri, search "generative ai" and set experience to 0 or 1 year. Then also search the titles from section 3. On LinkedIn, search "Generative AI intern", "AI engineer intern" and "associate machine learning engineer", and filter by "Internship" and "Entry level". LinkedIn showed 11,000+ results for "Generative AI" in India on 24 October 2026, but its counts use fuzzy matching, so treat them as a rough signal only.

Internships

Internships are the most common true fresher entry. Taknevit Services listed a six-month "Generative AI and AI Agentic systems Developer" internship in Hyderabad at ₹10,000 a month with 4 openings, asking for basic C# or Python, OOP, SQL and web basics, office-based. Nxtwave listed an "AI Search Optimization (AEO / GEO) Intern" in Hyderabad at ₹25,000 a month. Prowess Publishing listed an "AI Filmmaker and Micro-Drama Creator Intern" in Hyderabad at ₹10,000 a month. A good internship that turns into a full-time offer is often the fastest route.

Campus drives and recruiter fresher batches

IT services firms and recruiters run batch hiring for fresh graduates. The Hyderabad "AI & Python Developer Fresher 2026" listing above, with 15 openings, is one example. Be careful with recruiter listings: the end employer is often not named, so ask before you share documents, and never pay a fee to get a job.

Startups

Startups appeared in the Naukri company-type filter (453 of the 10,953 "generative ai" results on 24 October 2026). They often hire interns and freshers for hands-on GenAI work. Expect fast learning, smaller pay and less structure.

GCCs and large employers

Global capability centres (GCCs, the India offices of global firms) in Hyderabad and Bengaluru posted many GenAI roles in October 2026, but almost all we saw were senior, for example Wells Fargo, Eli Lilly and Bristol Myers Squibb in Hyderabad. Entry into a GCC usually comes through campus hiring, internships or a graduate programme, so watch their careers pages and campus notices rather than their senior GenAI listings.

Hyderabad for freshers

Hyderabad showed 2,258 "generative ai" results on Naukri on 24 October 2026, and 47 of the 284 zero-year results. Entry listings we saw there included Inspired Infotech's GenAI intern, Taknevit's internship, Nxtwave's AEO/GEO intern, RingTrunk's Agentic AI intern and the fresher AI and Python developer batch.

6. Skills that get a fresher shortlisted for generative AI jobs

Short answer: Python is asked everywhere, then LLM APIs, prompt engineering, RAG, vector databases, SQL and Git. Across 12 JDs we read on 24 October 2026, Python and LLMs appeared in all 12, RAG in 11, LangChain in 8 and LangGraph in 5.

Here are the skills, ranked by how often they appeared in the 12 JDs we read (three of them fresher or intern roles), with what "fresher level" looks like.

Skill How often in 12 JDs Fresher-level proof Python All 12 Clean scripts, functions, classes, Pandas, calling APIs LLMs and LLM APIs All 12 An app that calls a model API and handles the response RAG 11 of 12 A working "chat with your documents" project LangChain / LangGraph 8 / 5 One project built with LangChain; know what LangGraph adds Vector databases Most (FAISS, Pinecone, Chroma, pgvector) Store and search embeddings in Chroma or FAISS Prompt engineering Most Clear system prompts, few-shot examples, output formats SQL Capgemini, TVS Credit, Jobaaj Joins, grouping, simple queries Git and REST APIs TCS, PwC, TVS Credit, Wells Fargo A clean GitHub repo and one small API Evaluation TCS, JPMorganChase, Wells Fargo, Tech Mahindra, Capgemini A test set of questions with checked answers

Quick definitions of the jargon in that table:

  • Prompt: the instruction or question you give a model.
  • Token: a small chunk of text a model reads; a word can be one or several tokens.
  • Embedding: a list of numbers that represents the meaning of text, so similar texts sit close together.
  • Vector database: a store that saves embeddings and finds the closest matches quickly.
  • RAG (retrieval-augmented generation): the model first searches your documents, then answers using what it found.
  • Fine-tuning and LoRA: training a model further on your own examples; LoRA is a cheap method that trains only small extra parts.
  • Agent: a model that can plan steps and call tools, such as search or a database, to finish a task.

Skills that set a fresher apart in 2026:

  • Basic evaluation habits: testing answers for accuracy and hallucination.
  • One cloud's AI service at a basic level (AWS, Azure or Google Cloud).
  • Awareness of agents and newer terms in JDs such as MCP and guardrails.
  • Clear writing: a good README and a short demo video.

Certifications can help a fresher show structured learning, but no fresher JD we read required one. If you want one, beginner exams such as AWS Certified AI Practitioner (65 questions, 90 minutes, $100, AWS, October 2026) or Google Cloud's Generative AI Leader ($99, 90 minutes, Google Cloud, October 2026) suit beginners, and Microsoft's AI-901 has replaced AI-900 for Azure AI Fundamentals. Projects still come first.

7. Three generative AI portfolio projects for freshers

Short answer: Build three projects that match what fresher JDs ask for: a RAG app on real documents, a resume-screening assistant, and an Indian-language chatbot. Each should have a GitHub repo, a README, a demo and a short evaluation.

All three are fictional starter briefs written by us. Pick the tools you know; the ones named here appear in the JDs and official docs.

Project 1: College notes RAG assistant

  • Problem: students waste time searching long PDFs of syllabus, notes and old question papers.
  • Build: load 20 to 50 PDFs, split them into chunks, create embeddings, store them in Chroma or FAISS, and answer questions with citations to the page.
  • Skills shown: Python, embeddings, vector database, RAG, prompt design, LangChain or LlamaIndex.
  • Deliverables: GitHub repo, README with an architecture flow, a 2-minute demo video, and a table of 25 test questions with "correct, partly correct, wrong" scores.

Project 2: Resume-screening assistant

  • Problem: recruiters read hundreds of resumes for one role.
  • Build: take a job description and a folder of sample resumes (create fake ones, never use real people's data), extract skills, score each resume against the JD, and write a short reason for each score.
  • Skills shown: structured prompts, output formats such as JSON, SQL or Pandas for storing results, basic fairness checks.
  • Deliverables: repo, sample inputs and outputs, a note on limits and bias risks.

Project 3: Telugu or Hindi customer-support chatbot

  • Problem: many Indian customers prefer their own language.
  • Build: a small FAQ bot for a fictional bank, college or clinic that answers in Telugu or Hindi from a fixed FAQ, and says "I don't know" when the answer is not in the FAQ.
  • Skills shown: multilingual prompting, RAG over a small knowledge base, guardrails against made-up answers.
  • Deliverables: repo, demo, and 20 test conversations with notes on where it failed.

8. A 90-day plan to land your first generative AI job as a fresher

Short answer: Spend month one on Python and LLM basics, month two on RAG and your first two projects, and month three on your third project, resume, applications and interview practice. Apply from week 6, not week 12.

Weeks Focus Output by the end 1 to 2 Python refresh: functions, classes, files, Pandas, calling APIs 10 small scripts on GitHub 3 to 4 LLM basics: tokens, prompts, context windows, calling a model API, prompt patterns A simple chatbot script and a prompt notebook 5 to 6 Embeddings, vector databases and RAG Project 1 (notes RAG assistant) live with README 7 to 8 Structured outputs, SQL, LangChain basics Project 2 (resume-screening assistant) 9 to 10 Evaluation, guardrails, one cloud AI service at a basic level Project 3 (Indian-language bot) with a test table 11 to 12 Resume, LinkedIn, mock interviews, 10 to 15 applications a week Interviews scheduled

Daily routine that works for most freshers:

  1. Two hours of learning from official docs or a structured course.
  2. One hour of building on your current project.
  3. Thirty minutes of job search: new listings, one tailored application, one networking message.
  4. Weekly review: push code, update your README and note what you learned.

What to do in parallel from week 6:

  • Apply for internships and 0 to 2 year roles at the same time.
  • Apply for adjacent fresher roles (Python developer, data analyst, QA) and mention your GenAI projects.
  • Post a short write-up of each project on LinkedIn to get noticed.

9. Generative AI fresher salary and stipend reality in India

Short answer: Fresher GenAI pay in the listings we read ranged from about ₹4 lakh a year (a recruiter's fresher role) to ₹4 to 8 lakh a year (a 0 to 2 year engineer role), and internships ranged from unpaid to ₹25,000 a month. AmbitionBox's Gen AI Developer typical range was ₹7.3 to 8.1 lakh a year, but that covers 0 to 7 years.

Here is everything we could verify, with sources. AmbitionBox figures are "typical ranges" shown to logged-out users in October 2026, not offers.

Source (October 2026) Figure What it covers Naukri, Jobaaj.com for a client ₹4 to 8 lakh a year Generative AI Engineer, 0 to 2 years Naukri, Hindustan Consulting Services ₹4 lakh CTC AI and Python Developer fresher, Hyderabad Naukri internships Unpaid to ₹25,000 a month GenAI and AI internships AmbitionBox, Gen AI Developer, India ₹7.3 to 8.1 lakh a year 0 to 7 years, 291 salaries AmbitionBox, Gen AI Developer, Hyderabad ₹6.3 to 8 lakh a year 1 to 5 years, 65 salaries (small sample) AmbitionBox, Generative AI Engineer, 1 to 3 years company tab TCS ₹5.3 to 7 lakh (35); Capgemini ₹4.1 to 5.6 lakh (13) Indicative only, small samples

How to read these numbers:

  • The AmbitionBox Gen AI Developer page mixes freshers with people who have several years of experience, so a fresher usually starts below its typical range.
  • AmbitionBox showed no experience-band table to logged-out users, so we do not quote pay by exact years.
  • Pay rises as you move from intern to engineer and then into specialist work such as RAG, agents and evaluation. The AmbitionBox Generative AI Engineer typical range for India, which covers 0 to 13 years, was ₹9.2 to 10.1 lakh a year (632 salaries).
  • Prompt-engineer pay on AmbitionBox (₹6 to 6.6 lakh a year, 351 salaries) mostly reflects AI-training and annotation work, as section 3 explains.

10. Resume and interview tips for generative AI freshers

Short answer: Put your projects at the top of a one-page resume, use the exact skill words from the JD, link GitHub, and prepare to explain every line of your own code, how RAG works and how you tested your project.

Resume tips for freshers

  • One page, projects first. For a fresher, projects carry more weight than a long skills list.
  • Show results. Write "answered 25 test questions with 21 correct" instead of "built a chatbot".
  • Match the JD words. If the JD says "RAG", "LangChain" and "vector database", use those exact terms where they are true.
  • Link proof. GitHub, a demo video and LinkedIn at the top.
  • Keep it honest. Interviewers will ask about anything you list.

Our generative AI resume guide has full fresher samples, bullet examples and an ATS keyword list.

Interview tips for freshers

Most fresher GenAI interviews mix Python coding, ML basics and GenAI concepts with a project walkthrough. Prepare these:

  1. Python: lists, dictionaries, functions, classes, file handling, simple algorithms.
  2. Concepts: what an LLM is, tokens, context window, temperature, embeddings, RAG, fine-tuning versus RAG, hallucination.
  3. Your project: the architecture, why you chose each tool, what failed and how you measured quality.
  4. Scenario questions: "How would you stop a chatbot from making up answers?" or "How would you add a new document to your RAG system?"
  5. SQL: a few join and group-by questions.

Practise with our generative AI interview questions, which group questions by topic and include scenario practice.

11. Non-coding and work-from-home generative AI options for freshers

Short answer: Non-coding GenAI entry roles exist, such as AI search optimisation, AI content and video interns, and AI training or evaluation work, but they pay less and grow differently. Remote fresher roles are rare: only 23 of the 284 zero-year "generative ai" results on Naukri were remote on 24 October 2026.

Generative AI jobs without coding

Non-coding entry roles we saw included Nxtwave's AEO/GEO intern (AI search optimisation, ₹25,000 a month) and Prowess Publishing's AI filmmaker intern (₹10,000 a month), both in Hyderabad, plus a digital marketing internship tagged with GenAI. AI training and annotation work also needs little or no coding. These roles suit marketers, writers, designers and commerce graduates. If you want an engineering career later, learn Python on the side.

Work from home for freshers

Across all "generative ai" results on Naukri, 456 of 10,953 were remote and 1,327 hybrid on 24 October 2026; the rest were office-based. For freshers the share is similar, with 23 remote out of 284. Be cautious with "work from home" offers that ask you to pay for training, a kit or a placement fee. Genuine employers do not charge you to join.

12. Mistakes freshers make when chasing generative AI jobs

Short answer: The biggest mistakes are applying only to "generative AI engineer" titles, trusting experience tags without reading the JD, collecting certificates instead of building projects, and skipping Python fundamentals.

  1. Only searching one title. Search intern, associate ML engineer, AI developer and data scientist titles too.
  2. Trusting the tag. Some 0-year listings were senior roles; some 3-year cards wanted 6 or more years in the JD text.
  3. Certificate collecting. No fresher JD we read required a certificate; all wanted Python and projects.
  4. Copy-paste projects. A tutorial clone with no README or testing does not stand out. Add your own data, tests and a write-up.
  5. Skipping the basics. Freshers who cannot write clean Python or explain embeddings struggle in interviews.
  6. Ignoring adjacent roles. A Python developer or data analyst job with GenAI tasks is a strong first step.
  7. Putting real data into public tools. Never upload personal or company data to a public chatbot, even for a project.
  8. Paying for job "guarantees". No genuine employer charges a fee to hire you.

Frequently asked questions

Can a fresher get a job in generative AI in India?

Yes, but the entry pool is small. On 24 October 2026, Naukri showed 284 results for "generative ai" with a 0-year filter against 10,953 overall, and some of those 284 were internships or mis-tagged senior roles. Freshers get in through internships, 0 to 2 year engineer roles, fresher AI and Python developer roles, and adjacent jobs, usually by showing two or three working GenAI projects.

What generative AI jobs are available for freshers?

The entry titles seen in October 2026 were Generative AI Intern, AI/ML Intern, AI Engineer Intern, Associate Machine Learning Engineer, AI and Python Developer (fresher), Generative AI Engineer (0 to 2 years) and Data Scientist GenAI (0 to 2 years). AI training, annotation and evaluation work is another entry door with little or no coding, though it usually pays less than engineering roles.

How many entry-level generative AI jobs are there in India?

There is no exact count. A Naukri search for "generative ai" filtered to 0 years returned 284 results on 24 October 2026, many of them internships and some clearly senior roles tagged wrongly. That is about 2.6% of the 10,953 overall results. These are keyword-match counts that change daily, so treat them as a signal rather than a number of openings.

What is the salary of a generative AI fresher in India?

In October 2026 listings, one 0 to 2 year Generative AI Engineer role showed ₹4 to 8 lakh a year and a recruiter's fresher AI and Python developer role showed ₹4 lakh CTC. AmbitionBox's Gen AI Developer typical range was ₹7.3 to 8.1 lakh a year, but it covers 0 to 7 years, so freshers usually start below that range.

What is the stipend for a generative AI internship?

Stipends on GenAI internships seen on Naukri in October 2026 ranged from unpaid to ₹25,000 a month. Examples included a six-month Hyderabad GenAI and agentic systems internship at ₹10,000 a month and an AI search optimisation internship at ₹25,000 a month. Out of 284 zero-year "generative ai" results on Naukri, 56 were marked unpaid.

What skills does a fresher need for a generative AI job?

Python comes first; it appeared in all 12 job descriptions we read in October 2026. After that come LLM APIs, prompt engineering, RAG, a vector database such as Chroma or FAISS, SQL and Git. LangChain appeared in 8 of the 12 JDs. Basic evaluation habits, such as testing answers for accuracy and hallucination, help a fresher stand out.

Are there generative AI internships for students in India?

Yes. In October 2026 we saw GenAI and AI internships from Crisil in Pune, Inspired Infotech, Taknevit and Nxtwave in Hyderabad, Orient Electric in New Delhi, and on LinkedIn from Sony Research India, Tower Research Capital, Revvity and RingTrunk. Internships are the most common true fresher entry, and a good one can turn into a full-time offer.

Which companies hire freshers for generative AI roles?

Listings seen on 24 October 2026 that accepted 0 to 2 years included TVS Credit (Data Scientist GenAI), Crisil (GenAI intern), CapeStart (Associate ML Engineer) and a Jobaaj.com client (GenAI Engineer). Recruiters also posted fresher AI and Python developer batches. Large GCCs posted mostly senior GenAI roles, so freshers usually enter them through campus hiring or internships.

Can a non-CS graduate get a generative AI job as a fresher?

Yes, if you can prove coding skill. Most fresher listings say "Any Graduate", and one Hyderabad fresher role accepted B.Tech graduates of any branch. Technical roles prefer CS, IT, data science, AI or statistics degrees, so non-CS graduates should learn Python well and show two or three GenAI projects on GitHub to compete.

Is prompt engineering a good job for freshers?

Prompting is a useful skill, but "prompt engineer" was not a distinct fresher job category on the portals in October 2026. On AmbitionBox, many prompt-engineer salaries come from AI-training and annotation firms, with a typical range of ₹6 to 6.6 lakh a year. Treat prompting as part of a GenAI engineer or analyst role rather than a career on its own.

Are there generative AI jobs for freshers that do not need coding?

Yes, a few. In October 2026 we saw an AI search optimisation intern and an AI filmmaker intern in Hyderabad, plus AI training, annotation and evaluation work, which needs little or no coding. These suit marketers, writers and commerce graduates. They pay less than engineering roles, so learn Python on the side if you want to move into technical GenAI work.

Are there work-from-home generative AI jobs for freshers?

Very few. Only 23 of the 284 zero-year "generative ai" results on Naukri were remote on 24 October 2026, and 251 were work from office. Across all GenAI results, 456 of 10,953 were remote. Be careful with work-from-home offers that ask you to pay for training or placement, because genuine employers do not charge you to join.

Are there generative AI jobs for freshers in Hyderabad?

Yes. Hyderabad showed 2,258 "generative ai" results on Naukri on 24 October 2026, and 47 of the 284 zero-year results. Entry listings there included a GenAI intern at Inspired Infotech, a paid GenAI and agentic systems internship at Taknevit, an AEO/GEO intern at Nxtwave, an Agentic AI intern at RingTrunk and a fresher AI and Python developer batch.

What projects should a fresher build to get a generative AI job?

Build projects that match JD asks. A strong set is a RAG assistant that answers questions from college PDFs with citations, a resume-screening assistant that scores resumes against a job description, and a Telugu or Hindi FAQ chatbot that refuses to make up answers. Give each a GitHub repo, a README, a demo video and a small evaluation table.

Is a generative AI certification enough for a fresher to get a job?

No. No fresher job description we read in October 2026 required a certification; they asked for Python, LLM skills and projects. A beginner exam such as AWS Certified AI Practitioner or Google Cloud's Generative AI Leader can show structured learning, but recruiters shortlist freshers mainly on projects, GitHub and interview performance.

How long does it take a fresher to become job-ready for generative AI?

About three months of focused work is realistic for a fresher who knows some programming. Spend month one on Python and LLM basics, month two on RAG and two projects, and month three on a third project, your resume, applications and mock interviews. Start applying from week six rather than waiting until you feel fully ready.

What does a generative AI intern actually do?

A GenAI intern supports a team building AI features. Crisil's GenAI intern listing named data preprocessing, fine-tuning support, evaluation and building prototypes, using Python, OpenAI APIs, Hugging Face, NumPy and Pandas. Expect to test prompts, clean data, run experiments, check model outputs for errors and document what you find for the senior engineers.

What is AI data annotation or LLM evaluation work?

It is work where people rate, correct or write examples of AI outputs so models improve, sometimes called RLHF work. It needs care and good language skills but little coding. AmbitionBox data suggests many "prompt engineer" salaries come from this kind of work. It can be a paid way in, but keep building engineering skills to grow.

How do freshers apply for generative AI jobs on Naukri and LinkedIn?

On Naukri, search "generative ai" and set the experience filter to 0 or 1 year, then search intern, associate ML engineer and AI developer titles too. On LinkedIn, use the Internship and Entry level filters. Always read the full JD, because some 0-year tags are wrong, and tailor your resume to the exact skills each listing names.

What interview questions are asked to generative AI freshers?

Expect Python coding, ML basics and GenAI concepts such as LLMs, tokens, context windows, temperature, embeddings, RAG, fine-tuning versus RAG and hallucination. Interviewers also ask you to walk through your own project, explain tool choices and say how you measured quality. Scenario questions, such as how to stop a chatbot making up answers, are common.

Is it better for a fresher to start in data science or generative AI?

Both can work, and they overlap. GenAI fresher roles are fewer, but several data scientist GenAI listings accepted 0 to 2 years in October 2026. A data analyst or data science start builds Python, SQL and ML basics that GenAI roles also need. Pick the role you can enter now and add GenAI projects either way.

Do generative AI jobs for freshers ask for a specific degree?

Most fresher listings say "Any Graduate"; on the zero-year Naukri page, "Any Graduate" appeared on 219 results and B.Tech/B.E. on 49 in October 2026. Some technical roles want degrees in CS, data science, AI, maths or statistics, and one fresher batch accepted only 2026 pass-outs. Check the degree and batch year in each JD.

Why do some generative AI job listings for freshers ask for experience?

Because tags and cards are not always accurate. Some listings tagged 0 years on Naukri were senior roles, and one experienced card showing 3 to 8 years had JD text asking for 6 to 15 years. Many "0 to 2 years" roles also count internships and projects as experience. Always read the full job description before applying.

Does Brolly Academy help freshers get generative AI jobs?

Brolly Academy offers placement assistance with its 3-month Generative AI course, including ATS-friendly resume help, LinkedIn optimisation, mock interviews and an interview question bank, and classroom students get a dedicated placement officer.
