Quick answer
A Generative AI Engineer in India typically earns ₹9.2 to 10.1 lakh a year, based on 632 salaries reported on AmbitionBox (updated 23 October 2026), while a Gen AI Developer typically earns ₹7.3 to 8.1 lakh a year. These titles are new and most reported salaries come from IT services employees with only a few years of experience. Broader titles that include product companies sit higher: AmbitionBox showed ₹15 to 16.6 lakh a year for AI Engineers and ₹15.2 to 16.8 lakh for Data Scientists in October 2026. Fresher listings we saw on Naukri in October 2026 mostly offered ₹4 to 8 lakh a year.
- Generative AI Engineer (India): ₹9.2 to 10.1 lakh a year, 632 salaries, 0 to 13 years' experience (AmbitionBox, October 2026)
- Gen AI Developer (India): ₹7.3 to 8.1 lakh a year, 291 salaries, 0 to 7 years (AmbitionBox, October 2026)
- AI Engineer (India): ₹15 to 16.6 lakh a year, 5.2k salaries, 1 to 6 years (AmbitionBox, October 2026)
- Freshers: listings for 0 to 2 years showed ₹4 to 8 lakh a year; internship stipends ranged from unpaid to ₹25,000 a month (Naukri, October 2026)
- Monthly view: about ₹57,900 to ₹80,100 a month after employee PF, before income tax, on a ₹7.3 to 10.1 lakh CTC, by our labelled estimate below
Key takeaways
- AmbitionBox ranges are "typical ranges" shown to logged-out users, with a sample size and a date. They are guides, not offers.
- Job title changes the number a lot. "Generative AI Engineer" and "Gen AI Developer" pay looks lower than "AI Engineer" or "Data Scientist" because the samples come from different employers and experience levels, not because GenAI skills are worth less.
- Hyderabad and Bengaluru sit close together for GenAI titles; Chennai and Pune are a little lower on AmbitionBox's October 2026 rows.
- Your company type matters as much as your city. AmbitionBox showed AI Engineers at Google at ₹31.7 to 39.7 lakh a year and at TCS at ₹6.4 to 7.4 lakh (small samples, October 2026).
- Production skills raise pay: RAG, agents, evaluation, LLMOps and cloud platforms appear again and again in the senior job descriptions with the highest listed salaries.
1. Generative AI salary at a glance
Short answer: Across the six roles people search for most, AmbitionBox's October 2026 typical ranges run from about ₹6 lakh a year (Prompt Engineer) to about ₹16.8 lakh a year (Data Scientist), with GenAI-specific titles in the ₹7 to 10 lakh band.
Here is the summary table. Every figure is an AmbitionBox "typical salary range" for India, read logged out on 24 October 2026. The experience column is the range of experience the sample covers, not a band for that pay.
You can check the main figure yourself on the AmbitionBox Generative AI Engineer salary page, which showed ₹9.2 to 10.1 lakh a year marked "High Confidence" when we read it in October 2026.
Two titles need a warning. The LLM Engineer page showed only 26 salaries in October 2026, which is far too small to rely on, so we leave it out of the table. And many "Prompt Engineer" salaries on AmbitionBox come from AI-training and data-annotation firms, which we explain in section 6.
How we read these numbers (methodology)
Many salary blogs print unsourced ranges that disagree. Here is exactly what we did.
- Source: AmbitionBox role pages for India and for cities, read logged out on 24 October 2026. Logged-out users see a "typical salary range". Exact averages and top-earner figures sit behind a login, so we do not quote them.
- Sample size: we give the number of salaries next to every range. Below about 100 salaries, treat the figure as indicative. Below 30, we either flag it as tiny or skip it.
- Experience: AmbitionBox did not show a role-level table by years of experience to logged-out users, so we do not print pay by years. Section 3 describes the progression in words, using role ranges and real listing ranges instead.
- Listing ranges: we also quote salary ranges that employers or recruiters typed on specific Naukri listings seen on 24 October 2026. These are offers for one job, not market averages, and many listings do not disclose pay at all.
- Job counts: Naukri numbers are keyword-match counts on one date. They include duplicates and loosely related roles, so they show demand, not a count of open jobs.
- What we left out: Glassdoor, NASSCOM and other salary reports were not checked for this post, so we do not use them.
2. What is a generative AI engineer salary in India?
Short answer: AmbitionBox showed a typical range of ₹9.2 to 10.1 lakh a year for Generative AI Engineers in India in October 2026, from 632 salaries covering 0 to 13 years of experience.
A generative AI engineer builds applications on top of large language models (LLMs), which are AI models trained on huge amounts of text to predict the next word or "token". Typical work includes RAG (retrieval-augmented generation, where the app fetches your company's documents and passes them to the model so answers are grounded in real data), AI agents (systems where the model plans steps and calls tools or APIs), prompt design, evaluation and deployment. If you want the full role explained, read our guide on how to become a generative AI engineer.
Why is the range lower than many blogs claim? On the same AmbitionBox page, the industry row for IT Services and Consulting showed ₹8.2 to 9.1 lakh a year from 371 salaries, more than half the total sample (October 2026). The title "Generative AI Engineer" is new, and large IT services firms adopted it early for engineers with a few years of experience. Individual data points also vary widely: the "latest reported salaries" on the page included ₹8.5 lakh at 5 years at TCS and ₹4.3 lakh at 1 year at Capgemini.
The Gen AI Developer title runs lower still, at ₹7.3 to 8.1 lakh a year from 291 salaries covering 0 to 7 years (AmbitionBox, October 2026). In practice, "developer" and "engineer" listings ask for very similar skills. The gap mostly reflects who uses each title.
What does a senior GenAI engineer earn? AmbitionBox did not show experience bands to logged-out users, so we cannot give a verified senior band. What we can show are senior listing ranges seen on Naukri on 24 October 2026:
- Infosys, "Sr. AI/ML Engineer (Generative AI, Machine Learning, AWS)", Hyderabad, 5 to 9 years: ₹8 to 18 lakh a year
- Coforge, "Generative AI Engineer - immediate joiners", Hyderabad: card showed 3 to 8 years and ₹13 to 23 lakh a year, but the job description asked for 6 to 15 years
- Databuzz, "Data Scientist / Generative AI", Hyderabad, 6 to 9 years: ₹18 to 25 lakh a year
- Tekskills (a recruiter, end employer not named), "Senior Generative AI Engineer", Hyderabad, 5 to 10 years: ₹35 to 40 lakh a year
These are single listings, so read them as examples of what senior offers can look like, not as averages.
3. Generative AI salary by experience
Short answer: No verified pay-by-years table exists for GenAI titles yet, but the pattern is clear: freshers start around ₹4 to 8 lakh a year, engineers with a few years sit in the ₹7 to 10 lakh GenAI-title band, and senior engineers who own production RAG and agent systems see listings from the high teens to ₹25 lakh and above.
Because AmbitionBox showed no role-level experience bands to logged-out users in October 2026, we describe the progression using the data we do have. Use this as a direction, not a promise.
Here is the same path in plain words:
- Internship. Stipends we saw on GenAI internships on Naukri in October 2026 ranged from unpaid to ₹25,000 a month. Taknevit Services offered ₹10,000 a month for a 6-month GenAI and agentic AI internship in Hyderabad, and Nxtwave offered ₹25,000 a month for an AI search optimisation intern.
- First job. A recruiter listing for "AI & Python Developer Fresher 2026" in Hyderabad (for an unnamed MNC) showed a CTC of ₹4 lakh. Jobaaj.com, hiring for a client, listed "Generative AI Engineer / Artificial Intelligence Engineer" for 0 to 2 years at ₹4 to 8 lakh a year. An Ahmedabad listing for fresher to 3 years showed ₹1.5 to 6 lakh.
- One to three years. AmbitionBox's Generative AI Engineer company tab for 1 to 3 years showed TCS at ₹5.3 to 7 lakh (35 salaries), Capgemini at ₹4.1 to 5.6 lakh (13), Wipro at ₹6.4 to 8 lakh (5), Accenture at ₹6.1 to 7.6 lakh (7) and Deloitte at ₹8.5 to 12.6 lakh (8), October 2026. The samples are small, so treat these as indicative.
- Mid to senior. Engineers who move from "using an LLM API" to owning production systems see the senior listing ranges from section 2.
- Lead and architect. Accenture had a "Large Language Model Architect" listing and PepsiCo a "Workplace-Agentic AI Architect" listing in Hyderabad in October 2026, but AmbitionBox's AI architect pages showed no salary data when we checked, so no verified architect average exists.
A caution on experience: job cards on Naukri can understate what the job description actually asks. Coforge's card said 3 to 8 years while its JD said 6 to 15. Tiger Analytics' card said 4 to 9 years while its JD asked for 6+ years in data science. Always read the full description before you compare an offer with a listing range.
4. Generative AI salary by city
Short answer: On AmbitionBox in October 2026, Generative AI Engineer pay was ₹8.2 to 10.3 lakh a year in Bengaluru, ₹7.6 to 10 lakh in Hyderabad, ₹7.3 to 9.5 lakh in Pune and ₹6.9 to 8 lakh in Chennai.
The table puts GenAI Engineer pay next to the broader AI Engineer title and the Naukri keyword-match count for "generative ai" in each city. All from 24 October 2026 reads.
The Naukri figures come from its generative AI jobs search, which showed about 10,953 results for "generative ai" across India on 24 October 2026. Gurgaon showed 781 and Noida 545. Remember these are keyword matches, not open jobs.
Generative AI salary in Hyderabad
Hyderabad's Generative AI Engineer range was ₹7.6 to 10 lakh a year from 108 salaries covering 0 to 11 years (AmbitionBox, October 2026). The Gen AI Developer range in Hyderabad was ₹6.3 to 8 lakh from 65 salaries, a small sample. For broader titles, Hyderabad AI Engineers showed ₹15.4 to 17.1 lakh (748 salaries), Machine Learning Engineers ₹12.4 to 13.7 lakh (1.3k) and Data Scientists ₹15.3 to 17 lakh (7.2k). Many Hyderabad GenAI listings come from global capability centres (GCCs), the India offices of global firms. In October 2026 we saw GenAI and AI listings in Hyderabad from Wells Fargo, Bristol Myers Squibb, Eli Lilly, Regeneron, MSD, Optum India and PepsiCo, alongside IT services firms.
Generative AI salary in Bengaluru
Bengaluru's Generative AI Engineer row showed ₹8.2 to 10.3 lakh a year from 172 salaries, the highest of the four GenAI city rows. Bengaluru Machine Learning Engineers showed ₹13.4 to 14.8 lakh from 2.6k salaries (AmbitionBox, October 2026). Bengaluru also had the most Naukri results for "generative ai" on 24 October 2026, at 4,007.
Does the city really matter?
Less than you might think. Hyderabad and Bengaluru AI Engineer ranges overlap almost exactly; employer type and title create bigger gaps.
5. Generative AI salary by company
Short answer: IT services firms report the bulk of GenAI-title salaries, with typical ranges around ₹6 to 10 lakh a year, while consulting firms and global product companies sit higher; AmbitionBox showed Google AI Engineers at ₹31.7 to 39.7 lakh a year in October 2026.
These are AmbitionBox popular-company ranges across all experience levels, read logged out on 24 October 2026. Samples are small, so read them as indicative only.
For the AI Engineer title, the AmbitionBox AI Engineer page showed a much wider spread in October 2026: Google ₹31.7 to 39.7 lakh (71 salaries), IBM ₹16.6 to 21.2 lakh (48), Deloitte ₹12.1 to 15.7 lakh (41), Accenture ₹7.4 to 10.7 lakh (30) and TCS ₹6.4 to 7.4 lakh (170).
What this tells you:
- IT services firms report most GenAI-title salaries. Entry pay is modest, but you see many client projects.
- Consulting and Big Four firms (EY, Deloitte, PwC) show higher ranges on small samples.
- Global product companies and GCCs sit at the top. Their roles often carry broader titles such as "AI Engineer" or "Applied Scientist" rather than "Generative AI Engineer", which is one reason GenAI-title averages look low.
- Data science firms also pay well. For Data Scientists, AmbitionBox showed Fractal Analytics at ₹20.1 to 22.2 lakh and Tiger Analytics at ₹17.4 to 19.3 lakh (October 2026).
6. Generative AI salary by role
Short answer: Among the roles in this space, Data Scientist and AI Engineer titles showed the highest typical ranges in October 2026 (about ₹15 to 17 lakh a year), Machine Learning Engineer sat near ₹13 to 14 lakh, GenAI titles near ₹7 to 10 lakh, and Prompt Engineer near ₹6 lakh.
Here is what each role does and what AmbitionBox showed for it in October 2026.
AI engineer salary in India
AI Engineer is the broadest and best-sampled AI title, at ₹15 to 16.6 lakh a year from 5.2k salaries (AmbitionBox, October 2026). The sample includes Google and other product companies, which pulls the range up. Many GenAI engineers in product firms and GCCs carry this title.
Machine learning engineer vs generative AI salary
Machine Learning Engineers showed ₹12.6 to 13.9 lakh a year from 9.8k salaries. Does that mean ML pays more than GenAI? Not exactly. The titles cover different employers and experience levels. In 2026, many ML engineer roles now include LLM work, and many GenAI job descriptions ask for ML basics such as PyTorch, TensorFlow and scikit-learn (Infosys, Jobaaj and Crisil listings, October 2026). The skills overlap more than the titles suggest.
Data science with generative AI salary in India
Data Scientists showed ₹15.2 to 16.8 lakh a year from 61.7k salaries, and ₹15.3 to 17 lakh in Hyderabad (AmbitionBox, October 2026). Several GenAI listings we saw use the data scientist title, including Tiger Analytics "Senior Analyst/Data Scientist-GenAI", PwC "Data scientist - Generative AI" and TVS Credit "Data Scientist - Generative AI". If you already work in data science, adding GenAI skills keeps you in a well-paid title.
Prompt engineer salary: read this first
The Prompt Engineer range was ₹6 to 6.6 lakh a year from 351 salaries spread across 0 to 18 years. The top reporting employers tell the story: Nvidia ₹5.8 to 6.5 lakh (47), Zensar ₹5.7 to 6.3 lakh (32), SoftAge ₹5.2 to 7.4 lakh (22), Soul AI ₹2.5 to 3.6 lakh (8) and Outlier ₹3.8 to 5.4 lakh (6), October 2026. Several of these suggest AI-training or data-annotation contract work, where you write and rate prompts to train models. That is real work, but it is not the same as building LLM applications, and its pay reflects that.
LLM engineer salary in India
AmbitionBox's LLM Engineer page showed ₹14.4 to 15.9 lakh a year, but from only 26 salaries, and most company rows were AmbitionBox estimates rather than reported salaries (October 2026). That sample is too small to rely on. In job listings, LLM work usually appears under titles like "Python LLM Engineer" (JPMorganChase) or "LLM Model Developer" (Accenture).
Generative AI architect salary
Senior titles such as LLM architect and agentic AI architect exist in listings, as section 3 shows, but AmbitionBox's AI/ML architect pages loaded no salary data when we checked in October 2026. We therefore do not print an architect average.
7. Generative AI salary for freshers
Short answer: Freshers should expect about ₹4 to 8 lakh a year for genuine entry-level GenAI roles, based on listings seen on Naukri in October 2026, and internship stipends from unpaid to ₹25,000 a month.
Fresher pay is where online claims and reality differ most. Many blogs print high fresher bands with no source. The listings we read tell a more modest story.
- Real fresher offers seen (24 October 2026): ₹4 lakh CTC for "AI & Python Developer Fresher 2026" in Hyderabad (recruiter listing, B.Tech any branch, 2026 passouts only); ₹4 to 8 lakh a year for a 0 to 2 year "Generative AI Engineer" via Jobaaj.com; ₹1.5 to 6 lakh for a fresher-to-3-years GenAI developer role in Ahmedabad.
- Openings for freshers are limited. A Naukri search for "generative ai" filtered to 0 years' experience returned 284 results on 24 October 2026, many of them internships and some clearly senior roles mis-tagged. That compares with about 10,953 results for "generative ai" overall.
- Internships are a real entry route. Stipends ranged from unpaid to ₹25,000 a month, and Naukri's facet tagged 56 of the 284 zero-experience results as "Unpaid".
Freshers with strong projects can do better. TVS Credit's "Data Scientist - Generative AI" listing for 0 to 2 years said strong project portfolios from fresh candidates may be considered, and Jobaaj's listing said internships and projects count as experience. For the full fresher playbook, including entry titles and a 90-day plan, read our guide to generative AI jobs for freshers.
8. Generative AI salary per month: an in-hand estimate
Short answer: By our simple estimate, a ₹9.2 lakh CTC works out to about ₹73,000 a month after employee PF, and a ₹4 lakh fresher CTC to about ₹31,700, before income tax and any other deductions your employer makes.
CTC (cost to company) is not what reaches your bank account. To give a rough monthly view, we used one simple, labelled method. Your payslip will differ.
- Gross monthly pay: annual CTC divided by 12.
- Basic pay assumption: we assumed basic pay is 40% of CTC. This is only an example; employers set basic pay differently, often between a third and a half of CTC.
- Employee PF example: 12% of that assumed basic pay, deducted from your gross monthly pay. Some employers calculate PF on a capped wage instead, which changes the figure.
- Income tax and other deductions: not shown. Income tax depends on the tax regime you choose and the slabs for the current year, so check them on the Income Tax Department portal. Professional tax, variable pay, gratuity, insurance and an employer PF share counted inside CTC can also lower your monthly figure.
The example CTCs come from this post: ₹4 lakh is a fresher listing CTC seen on Naukri, ₹7.3 lakh is the low end of the Gen AI Developer range, ₹9.2 and ₹10.1 lakh are the ends of the Generative AI Engineer range, and ₹15 lakh is the low end of the AI Engineer range (AmbitionBox, October 2026). These are our estimates, not take-home figures. Ask HR for a CTC breakup before you accept any offer.
9. What raises a generative AI salary
Short answer: The higher-paying GenAI listings we read in October 2026 all asked for production skills: RAG, agents, evaluation, LLMOps and cloud platforms, plus solid Python and software engineering.
We read 12 GenAI job descriptions on 24 October 2026. The senior, better-paid ones share a clear pattern. These are the skills that move you from the ₹7 to 10 lakh GenAI-title band towards the senior listing ranges.
A few terms explained. An embedding is a list of numbers that captures the meaning of a piece of text, so similar text gets similar numbers. A vector database stores those embeddings and finds the closest matches quickly. Hallucination is when a model states something false with confidence; evaluation work checks for it. LLMOps is the practice of deploying, monitoring and controlling the cost of LLM apps in production.
Five things that most clearly lift pay:
- Production RAG and agents. Building a demo chatbot is common. Running a RAG or agent system that real users depend on, with guardrails and monitoring, is rarer and better paid. Wells Fargo's Hyderabad lead role asked for agentic and multi-agent systems, guardrails, AI red teaming and prompt-injection defences.
- Evaluation skills. TCS's GenAI engineer JD listed evaluating responses for groundedness and hallucination as a duty, and JPMorganChase asked for offline test sets, regression checks and traces.
- Cloud platform depth. Infosys's listing at ₹8 to 18 lakh asked for AWS SageMaker, Bedrock, Lambda and more. Tech Mahindra's asked for Microsoft Foundry (then named Azure AI Foundry in the JD), Azure OpenAI and Azure AI Search.
- Domain knowledge. Pharma GCCs, banks and insurers in Hyderabad hire AI engineers who understand their data and rules. Our Naukri Hyderabad read showed 100 "generative ai" results in Pharmaceutical and Life Sciences and 66 in Financial Services on 24 October 2026.
- Newer protocols. PwC and Tech Mahindra asked for MCP (Model Context Protocol, a standard way for models to connect to tools and data) and A2A (agent-to-agent communication). Early skills like these help you stand out.
Do certifications raise generative AI salary?
Certifications help you get shortlisted more than they raise pay directly. Of the 12 JDs we read, only PwC mentioned that "AI/GenAI certifications" were preferred, and none required one. If you want one, pick a current, role-relevant exam. The AWS Certified Generative AI Developer – Professional (AIP-C01) costs $300 for 75 questions and targets people with 2+ years building production apps and 1+ year of hands-on GenAI (AWS, October 2026). On the Microsoft side, the current associate exam is AI-103, "Azure AI Apps and Agents Developer Associate"; the older AI-102 certification is retired. Compare all options in our generative AI certification guide.
Agentic AI vs generative AI salary
No separate verified salary data exists for "agentic AI engineer" as a title on the pages we read. Agent skills are showing up inside GenAI job descriptions instead: Capgemini, Tech Mahindra, Wells Fargo and PwC all asked for agentic frameworks in October 2026. If you want to understand the difference between the two, read our comparison of agentic AI vs generative AI.
10. How to negotiate a generative AI salary
Short answer: Anchor on dated, sourced ranges for the exact title and city, show proof of production work, and negotiate the full CTC breakup, not just the headline number.
Use these steps before you say yes:
- Match the title and city. Compare your offer with the AmbitionBox range for the same title in the same city. Use "AI Engineer" or "Data Scientist" ranges if your role is closer to those, and say why.
- Check the sample size. A range from 600 salaries is a stronger anchor than one from 20.
- Bring proof. Show a GitHub repo or demo of a RAG app with evaluation, a deployed agent, or measurable impact from your current job. Specific results beat certificates in a negotiation.
- Ask for the CTC breakup. Find out how much is fixed, how much is variable, and whether PF, gratuity and insurance are inside the CTC. Then work out your in-hand figure using section 8.
- Use competing listings wisely. If similar listings in your city show higher ranges, mention them politely. Remember that card ranges and actual JDs can differ.
- Negotiate more than salary. Joining bonus, hybrid days, certification sponsorship and a review after six months can all add value. Many listings are office-based: Naukri tagged 9,170 of its 10,953 "generative ai" results as "Work from office" on 24 October 2026, so hybrid days can be worth asking for.
- Mind the notice period. Some employers want immediate joiners; Coforge's listing said "Immediate to 20 days ONLY". A short notice period can be a bargaining point.
11. Generative AI salary growth path
Short answer: The fastest pay growth comes from moving up in ownership (from calling an API to owning a production system) and, for many people, moving from a services title into a product company, GCC or broader AI Engineer title.
Here is a realistic growth path in five steps, based on the data in this post:
- Learn and intern. Build two or three projects, then take an internship or a fresher role in the ₹4 to 8 lakh band.
- Build in production. Spend one to three years shipping GenAI features at an IT services firm, startup or GCC. GenAI-title ranges of ₹7 to 10 lakh apply here.
- Specialise. Go deep in RAG, agents, evaluation or LLMOps, plus one cloud platform. This is where you start to match senior listing ranges.
- Switch title or employer type. Many engineers move into "AI Engineer", "Data Scientist" or GCC roles, where AmbitionBox ranges are about ₹15 to 17 lakh a year (October 2026).
- Lead. Lead engineer, architect and AI engineering manager roles appeared in Hyderabad listings from Wells Fargo, Accenture, EPAM Systems and PepsiCo in October 2026. Verified averages for these are not available, but the recruiter listing at ₹35 to 40 lakh shows the ceiling can be high.
Demand also looks steady. The WEF Future of Jobs Report 2025 lists AI and ML specialists among the fastest-growing jobs and AI and big data as the fastest-growing skill (WEF, January 2025). For the current job market, cities and how to apply, see our guide to generative AI jobs in India.

It depends on the title. In October 2026, AmbitionBox showed ₹9.2 to 10.1 lakh a year for Generative AI Engineers, ₹7.3 to 8.1 lakh for Gen AI Developers, ₹15 to 16.6 lakh for AI Engineers and ₹15.2 to 16.8 lakh for Data Scientists. These are typical ranges, not offers, and the titles cover different employers and experience levels.
What is the generative AI salary for freshers in India?
Freshers can expect about ₹4 to 8 lakh a year for genuine entry-level GenAI roles. Listings seen on Naukri on 24 October 2026 included a ₹4 lakh CTC fresher role in Hyderabad and a 0 to 2 year GenAI engineer role at ₹4 to 8 lakh a year. Strong projects can help, since some listings count internships and portfolios as experience.
What is the generative AI salary per month in India?
By our simple estimate, a ₹9.2 lakh CTC works out to about ₹73,000 a month and a ₹4 lakh fresher CTC to about ₹31,700, after employee PF but before income tax. We divided CTC by 12 and deducted PF at 12% of an assumed basic pay of 40% of CTC. Income tax depends on the regime you choose and the current year's slabs.
What is the generative AI salary for freshers per month?
A fresher on a ₹4 lakh CTC gets about ₹31,700 a month after employee PF and before income tax, by our estimate, and one on ₹7.3 lakh about ₹57,900. Interns earn less: GenAI internship stipends seen on Naukri in October 2026 ranged from unpaid to ₹25,000 a month. Always ask for a CTC breakup to calculate your own in-hand amount.
How much does a generative AI engineer earn with 3 to 5 years of experience?
No verified pay table by years exists for GenAI titles, because AmbitionBox did not show experience bands to logged-out users in October 2026. Senior listings give a direction: Infosys showed ₹8 to 18 lakh for 5 to 9 years, and Coforge ₹13 to 23 lakh on a card whose JD asked for 6 to 15 years. Engineers who own production RAG and agent systems sit towards the top.
What is the senior generative AI engineer salary in India?
Verified averages for senior GenAI engineers are not available. Listings on Naukri on 24 October 2026 give examples: Databuzz showed ₹18 to 25 lakh for 6 to 9 years, and a recruiter listing for a Senior Generative AI Engineer in Hyderabad showed ₹35 to 40 lakh for 5 to 10 years. These are single listings, not market averages, so treat them as examples.
What is the generative AI salary in Hyderabad?
AmbitionBox showed ₹7.6 to 10 lakh a year for Generative AI Engineers in Hyderabad in October 2026, from 108 salaries. Gen AI Developers in Hyderabad showed ₹6.3 to 8 lakh from a small sample of 65. Broader titles pay more: AI Engineers in Hyderabad showed ₹15.4 to 17.1 lakh and Data Scientists ₹15.3 to 17 lakh a year.
What is the generative AI salary in Bangalore?
Bengaluru's Generative AI Engineer row on AmbitionBox showed ₹8.2 to 10.3 lakh a year from 172 salaries in October 2026, the highest of the four GenAI city rows. AI Engineers in Bengaluru showed ₹15.5 to 17.1 lakh and Machine Learning Engineers ₹13.4 to 14.8 lakh. Bengaluru also had the most Naukri results for "generative ai", about 4,007 on 24 October 2026.
Which city pays the highest generative AI salary in India?
Bengaluru and Hyderabad sit at the top and close together. In October 2026, AmbitionBox showed Generative AI Engineers at ₹8.2 to 10.3 lakh in Bengaluru and ₹7.6 to 10 lakh in Hyderabad, ahead of Pune and Chennai. For the AI Engineer title, Mumbai showed the highest row at ₹16.3 to 18.8 lakh, though from a smaller sample of 232.
What do TCS, Infosys and Accenture pay generative AI engineers?
AmbitionBox showed Generative AI Engineer ranges of ₹6.1 to 7.6 lakh at TCS, ₹6 to 8.9 lakh at Infosys and ₹7 to 9.7 lakh at Accenture in October 2026. These cover all experience levels and come from small samples of 63, 25 and 10 salaries. Treat them as indicative. Consulting firms such as EY showed higher ranges on even smaller samples.
What is the Gen AI developer salary in India?
A Gen AI Developer in India typically earns ₹7.3 to 8.1 lakh a year, based on 291 salaries covering 0 to 7 years on AmbitionBox in October 2026. In Hyderabad the range was ₹6.3 to 8 lakh from a small sample. The skills asked for are close to the Generative AI Engineer title; the pay gap mostly reflects which employers use each title.
What is the AI engineer salary in India?
AmbitionBox showed a typical range of ₹15 to 16.6 lakh a year for AI Engineers in India in October 2026, from 5.2k salaries covering 1 to 6 years. The spread by company is wide: Google showed ₹31.7 to 39.7 lakh, IBM ₹16.6 to 21.2 lakh and TCS ₹6.4 to 7.4 lakh. Many GenAI engineers in product companies and GCCs use this title.
What is the LLM engineer salary in India?
There is no reliable figure yet. AmbitionBox's LLM Engineer page showed ₹14.4 to 15.9 lakh a year in October 2026, but from only 26 salaries, and most company rows were estimates rather than reported pay. That sample is too small to trust. LLM work usually appears under titles like AI Engineer, Python LLM Engineer or Generative AI Engineer.
What is the prompt engineer salary in India?
AmbitionBox showed ₹6 to 6.6 lakh a year for Prompt Engineers in October 2026, from 351 salaries. The top reporting employers include AI-training and annotation firms, so many of these salaries reflect writing and rating prompts to train models rather than building LLM applications. Prompt engineering is a valuable skill inside engineering roles, but as a standalone title it pays modestly.
Generative AI vs machine learning: which pays more?
The titles are hard to compare directly. In October 2026, AmbitionBox showed Machine Learning Engineers at ₹12.6 to 13.9 lakh and Generative AI Engineers at ₹9.2 to 10.1 lakh, but the GenAI sample is newer and dominated by IT services employees with fewer years. Skills overlap heavily, and many GenAI listings also ask for PyTorch, TensorFlow and scikit-learn.
What is the salary for data science with generative AI in India?
Data Scientists in India showed a typical range of ₹15.2 to 16.8 lakh a year on AmbitionBox in October 2026, from 61.7k salaries, and ₹15.3 to 17 lakh in Hyderabad. Several GenAI listings use the data scientist title, including roles at Tiger Analytics, PwC and TVS Credit. Adding GenAI skills to data science keeps you in a well-paid, well-sampled title.
Agentic AI vs generative AI: which pays more?
No verified salary data exists for agentic AI engineer as a separate title on the pages we checked. Agent skills appear inside GenAI job descriptions instead, and Capgemini, Tech Mahindra, Wells Fargo and PwC all asked for agentic frameworks in October 2026. Building production agents is one of the skills that moves you towards senior GenAI listing ranges.
Which skills increase a generative AI salary the most?
Production skills raise pay the most. Of 12 GenAI job descriptions read in October 2026, all asked for Python and LLM APIs, 11 asked for RAG, and the senior ones added agents, evaluation for hallucination and groundedness, LLMOps and cloud platforms such as AWS Bedrock or Microsoft Foundry. Domain knowledge in pharma, banking or insurance also helps in GCC roles.
Do certifications increase generative AI salary?
Certifications help you get noticed more than they raise pay directly. Of 12 job descriptions read in October 2026, only PwC said GenAI certifications were preferred, and none required one. If you choose one, pick a current exam such as AWS AIP-C01 or Microsoft AI-103. The older Microsoft AI-102 certification is retired, so avoid it.
Is generative AI a high-paying career in India?
It can be, but not automatically. GenAI-title typical ranges sat at ₹7 to 10 lakh a year in October 2026, while broader AI Engineer and Data Scientist titles reached about ₹15 to 17 lakh, and senior listings went higher. Your pay depends on production skills, employer type and title more than on the word "generative" in your job title.
Will generative AI salaries keep rising?
Nobody can promise that, but demand signals are steady. The WEF Future of Jobs Report 2025 lists AI and ML specialists among the fastest-growing jobs and AI and big data as the fastest-growing skill. Naukri showed about 10,953 results for "generative ai" in India on 24 October 2026, though those are keyword matches rather than open jobs.
How can I negotiate a higher generative AI salary?
Anchor on a dated, sourced range for your exact title and city, and check its sample size. Show proof of production work, such as a deployed RAG app with evaluation. Ask for the full CTC breakup, then calculate your in-hand pay. You can also negotiate a joining bonus, hybrid days, certification sponsorship or an early salary review.
Does Brolly Academy guarantee a generative AI salary or job?
No. Brolly Academy's Generative AI course offers placement assistance, resume and interview support and mock interviews, but it does not promise a salary or a job. Your outcome depends on your skills, projects and the market. Use the dated AmbitionBox ranges and listing figures in this guide, rather than any promise, to set realistic expectations.
Which Brolly course helps me reach a higher generative AI salary?
Brolly Academy's 3-month Generative AI course covers the skills higher-paying listings ask for, including RAG with LangChain, vector databases, fine-tuning with LoRA, LLMOps and LLMs on AWS and Azure. Fees are ₹14,999 for the video plan, ₹35,000 for online and ₹40,000 for classroom, with EMI on the online and classroom plans.
