Quick answer
SailPoint and CyberArk solve different problems: SailPoint is an identity governance (IGA) platform that decides and proves who should have access to what, while CyberArk is a privileged access management (PAM) platform that locks down and watches the powerful admin accounts, and large companies often run both together. Think of SailPoint as the rulebook and the auditor for everyone's access, and CyberArk as the high-security vault for the keys that can damage the business. Since 11 February 2026, CyberArk has been part of Palo Alto Networks, and its platform is now branded Idira. For your career, both have similar demand in India: on 24 October 2026, Naukri showed about 5,550 results for "sailpoint" and about 5,817 for "cyberark".
- SailPoint: joiner-mover-leaver automation, access requests, access reviews (certifications), roles, separation-of-duty (SoD) policies
- CyberArk: storing and rotating admin passwords, controlling and recording privileged sessions, just-in-time admin access, secrets for apps and machines
- Together: SailPoint governs who may use a privileged account; CyberArk protects how that account is used
- Pay snapshot: AmbitionBox showed ₹7.6 to 8.4 lakh a year for SailPoint developers (1 to 6 years) and ₹8.4 to 9.3 lakh for CyberArk engineers (2 to 9 years) in October 2026
- Learn first: SailPoint if you like Java, logic and business processes; CyberArk if you like servers, networks and security operations
Key takeaways
- "SailPoint vs CyberArk" is really "IGA vs PAM". They are two layers of identity security, not two versions of the same tool.
- Most large enterprises need both, and SailPoint offers a connector that governs CyberArk accounts and safes.
- CyberArk now sits inside Palo Alto Networks as the Idira platform; existing CyberArk products and skills still matter, and certifications still carry the CyberArk name.
- Job-board demand and typical pay for the two skills are close in India, so pick the one that matches your background, not the one with a slightly bigger number.
- Learning one first and adding the other later makes you an all-round identity engineer, which is what many consulting job descriptions describe.
1. SailPoint vs CyberArk at a glance
Short answer: SailPoint governs access for every identity across the business; CyberArk protects the small set of privileged accounts and secrets that can do the most harm.
Use this table as a one-minute summary. Every row is expanded later in the post.
2. IGA vs PAM explained with a simple example
Short answer: IGA manages and reviews everyone's access from hiring to exit; PAM adds extra locks, approvals and recording around the few accounts that can change or destroy systems.
First, a few terms you will see in every job description:
- IAM (identity and access management): the broad discipline of managing digital identities and what they can access.
- IGA (identity governance and administration): the governance layer of IAM. It makes sure each person has the right access, reviews that access regularly and creates audit evidence.
- PAM (privileged access management): the security layer for privileged accounts, such as domain admins, root users, database admins and service accounts.
- Privileged account: an account with elevated, system-level permissions, which can install software, change settings or read sensitive data.
- Provisioning and deprovisioning: creating access when someone needs it and removing it when they do not.
- Entitlement: one specific permission, such as membership of an Active Directory group.
- Access certification: a scheduled review where a manager or owner approves or revokes each person's access.
- SoD (separation of duties): a rule that one person must not hold two conflicting powers, for example creating a vendor and also approving payments to it.
- JML (joiner-mover-leaver): the three lifecycle events of an employee: joining, changing roles and leaving.
- SSO and MFA: single sign-on (one login for many apps) and multi-factor authentication (a second proof such as an OTP). These belong to access management, a third corner of IAM.
SailPoint's own identity library describes IAM as the broad framework that authenticates and authorises users, and IGA as the governance layer for appropriate access, compliance, access reviews, provisioning and audit reporting. It also notes that PAM tools work alongside IGA to control privileged accounts (SailPoint, October 2026).
A worked example: Priya joins a bank's Hyderabad GCC
Imagine Priya joins a bank's global capability centre (GCC) in Hyderabad as a database administrator. Here is what each tool does:
- HR creates her record. The IGA tool (SailPoint) reads the new hire from the HR system and creates her identity.
- Birthright access. SailPoint gives her email, VPN and the standard "DBA team" Active Directory groups based on her role.
- Privileged request. Priya also needs the Oracle "sys" admin account. She requests it in SailPoint, and her manager and the database owner approve it.
- PAM takes over. The admin password itself lives in the PAM vault (CyberArk). Priya never sees or owns that password. She checks it out for a task, and her session is controlled and recorded.
- Rotation. After use, CyberArk changes the password so it cannot be reused.
- Quarterly review. SailPoint runs an access certification. Her manager confirms she still needs access to the privileged safe.
- Priya moves teams. SailPoint detects the mover event, removes the DBA groups and her right to use the privileged account.
- Audit. Auditors get SailPoint's evidence of who approved and reviewed access, and CyberArk's evidence of what was done during each privileged session.
Without IGA, nobody can prove Priya should have that access. Without PAM, the admin password could sit in a spreadsheet. That is why the two are bought together.
3. What SailPoint does (short version)
Short answer: SailPoint is an Austin, Texas-based identity security company whose products automate and govern access for all identities, from on-premises apps to cloud services.
If you want the full explainer, read our guide on what SailPoint is. Here is the short version for this comparison:
- Company: founded in 2005, listed on Nasdaq under "SAIL" in 2025, with 3,000+ customers in 60+ countries according to its company page (SailPoint, October 2026).
- IdentityIQ (IIQ): the self-managed product, run on your own servers or hosting. It covers joiner-mover-leaver automation, certification campaigns, SoD and policy controls, access requests and password management. IdentityIQ 9.0 was announced on 6 October 2026.
- Identity Security Cloud (ISC, formerly IdentityNow, now sold as SailPoint Human Fabric within SailPoint Identity Security): the SaaS product. Most Indian job posts still say "ISC" or "IdentityNow".
- Agentic Fabric: identity security for AI agents and non-human identities, generally available since August 2026.
- Key ideas: aggregation (reading accounts from systems), correlation (linking each account to the right person), roles, entitlements, certifications, workflows and rules written in BeanShell, a Java-based scripting language.
4. What CyberArk does in 2026
Short answer: CyberArk is the best-known PAM brand; it is now part of Palo Alto Networks, and its platform is sold as Idira, covering privileged access, endpoint privilege, secrets and machine and AI-agent identities.
The biggest change for anyone comparing the two in 2026 is ownership. Palo Alto Networks completed its acquisition of CyberArk on 11 February 2026. Each CyberArk share was converted into $45.00 in cash plus 2.2005 Palo Alto Networks shares, and Palo Alto said CyberArk's identity security platform would stay available as a standalone offering while being integrated (Palo Alto Networks, February 2026).
On 12 May 2026, Palo Alto Networks introduced Idira, an identity security platform for human, machine and agentic identities, with modern PAM based on zero standing privilege and just-in-time access. Today cyberark.com lands on the Idira page, which says it is built on CyberArk's legacy and lists capabilities such as Privileged Access Management, Endpoint Privilege Manager, Vendor Privileged Access, Identity and Access Management, Identity Governance, Workforce Password Management, Secrets Management and Idira Secure AI Agents (Palo Alto Networks, October 2026). Existing CyberArk customers keep using the platform under the new branding.
In plain terms, CyberArk-style PAM does four jobs:
- Vaulting: stores privileged passwords and keys in a hardened vault instead of spreadsheets or people's heads.
- Rotation: changes those credentials automatically on a schedule or after each use.
- Session control: lets admins connect to servers through a controlled gateway, with sessions isolated, monitored and recorded.
- Least privilege: removes standing admin rights from laptops and servers and grants them only when needed, for a limited time.
Two terms worth knowing: zero standing privilege means nobody keeps permanent admin rights, and just-in-time (JIT) access means admin rights are granted for a task and then removed.
5. Detailed comparison: SailPoint vs CyberArk
Short answer: The two differ in focus, users, daily tasks and skills; SailPoint work is closer to business process and Java development, CyberArk work is closer to infrastructure and security operations.
The coding question
SailPoint developer job descriptions ask for code. For example, an EY "SailPoint IIQ Senior" listing in Hyderabad, seen on 24 October 2026, asked for at least 3 years of hands-on IdentityIQ development, 2+ years of Java, BeanShell, JavaScript and REST APIs. If you dislike coding, you can still work in SailPoint operations (running certifications, fixing aggregation failures, handling tickets), but development roles pay more.
CyberArk roles lean more on infrastructure. You configure platforms, onboard accounts, troubleshoot connections to servers and handle incidents. Scripting helps, but deep application coding is less central. This is why many Windows or Linux admins find CyberArk a natural first step, while Java developers find SailPoint easier to pick up.
6. Where SailPoint and CyberArk overlap in 2026
Short answer: The line between IGA and PAM is blurring: Idira lists Identity Governance, and SailPoint now secures machine identities and secrets, but each vendor's core strength is still the same.
Three overlaps to know before an interview:
- CyberArk adds governance. The Idira page lists Identity Governance and Identity and Access Management alongside PAM (Palo Alto Networks, October 2026). Some companies may use it for lighter governance, but the deep IGA features SailPoint is known for, such as complex role models and large certification programmes, are the reason many enterprises keep a dedicated IGA tool.
- SailPoint adds machine and secrets security. SailPoint completed its acquisition of Entro Security, a non-human identity and secrets security company, on 29 June 2026, and sells it as SailPoint Entro. Its Agentic Fabric discovers AI agents, machine identities and the credentials or tokens they use, maps their access to a human owner and can cut off a misbehaving agent with a "kill switch" (SailPoint, October 2026).
- AI agents are the new battleground. Both Idira (Idira Secure AI Agents) and SailPoint (Agentic Fabric) now target AI agent identities. For learners, this means identity skills are moving towards non-human identities, whichever tool you choose.
Even with this overlap, an interviewer will expect you to say SailPoint is IGA-first and CyberArk is PAM-first.
7. How SailPoint and CyberArk work together
Short answer: SailPoint governs the accounts and safes inside CyberArk, so access to privileged credentials is requested, approved, reviewed and removed through SailPoint, while CyberArk keeps protecting the credentials themselves.
This is the "sailpoint and cyberark integration" question, and SailPoint documents it. The Identity Security Cloud documentation has a page called "Integrating SailPoint with CyberArk Privileged Access Manager (Self-Hosted)". It says the integration provides governance for accounts and groups, which CyberArk calls safes, with end-to-end lifecycle management, and that it needs extra licensing (SailPoint documentation, revised September 2026). A safe is a container in the vault that holds privileged credentials; who can use a safe decides who can use those credentials.
The integration pattern, step by step
- Connect. The SailPoint admin sets up the CyberArk PAM source (connector) in SailPoint.
- Aggregate. SailPoint reads CyberArk accounts and safes, and treats safe membership as an entitlement.
- Correlate. Each CyberArk account is linked to the right person's identity, so you can see "Ravi, DBA, has access to the Oracle-Prod safe".
- Request and approve. A user asks for a safe through SailPoint; manager and owner approvals run as a normal access request.
- Provision. SailPoint adds the user to the safe in CyberArk.
- Use. CyberArk controls how the user checks out the credential and records the session.
- Certify. In the quarterly review, owners approve or revoke each person's safe access.
- Leaver. When the user leaves or moves, SailPoint removes the safe membership automatically.
Who owns what
This split matches what consulting job descriptions show. A Deloitte "IAM SailPoint ISC" listing in Hyderabad with a US shift, seen on 24 October 2026, asked for implementation experience with SailPoint, Oracle Identity Manager or CyberArk, and a WSP "SailPoint IIQ Operations" role in Noida and Gurugram listed PAM next to AD, Entra ID, SSO and MFA. Knowing how both sides connect makes you more useful on these projects.
8. A day in the job: SailPoint engineer vs CyberArk engineer
Short answer: A SailPoint engineer spends the day on applications, rules, roles and reviews; a CyberArk engineer spends it on privileged accounts, platform health and session access.
The managed-services listings we read show the support side of SailPoint work. A UST "IAM Analyst - SailPoint IIQ" role in Bengaluru, seen on 24 October 2026, described orphan-account clean-up, manual correlation, removing terminated users' access, entitlement owner reviews, ServiceNow tickets and audit evidence. An orphan account is an account that does not belong to any current person.
9. Certifications compared
Short answer: SailPoint offers 7 credentials split into role-based and training-based tracks, taken online; CyberArk offers Defender, Sentry and Guardian levels, taken in person at Pearson VUE test centres since November 2025.
SailPoint certifications (October 2026)
SailPoint's programme lists three role-based certifications (Identity Security Administrator, Identity Security Engineer, IdentityIQ Engineer) and four training-based credentials (Identity Security Leader, Identity Security Professional, Identity Security Expert, IdentityIQ Associate) on its community programme page (SailPoint, September 2026).
Key rules from SailPoint's programme and prep guides (October 2026): role-based exams are online-proctored through Proctor360, results are Pass/Fail only with no published passing score, and each enrolment includes one free retake. Training-based exams are free with the matching training path or cost 2 training units (about $200 USD) bought on their own. Role-based exam prices are not published on the programme page, so check the current price on Identity University at checkout. For the full exam guide, see our post on SailPoint certification.
CyberArk certifications (October 2026)
CyberArk certifications are delivered through Pearson VUE (Pearson VUE, October 2026):
Since 1 November 2025, all CyberArk exams are taken in person at test centres; online proctoring through OnVUE was discontinued. In India, that means booking a slot at a Pearson VUE centre in your city. Exam prices were not checked for this post, so look them up on Pearson VUE before you book.
What employers say about certifications
In the SailPoint job descriptions we read on 24 October 2026, SailPoint certifications appeared only as "desirable" or "good to have" (EY and PwC listings), never as mandatory. Hands-on project experience is what gets you shortlisted; a certification helps you stand out once you have it.
10. Jobs and demand compared in India
Short answer: Demand for the two keywords is close: about 5,550 Naukri results for "sailpoint" and 5,817 for "cyberark" on 24 October 2026, and LinkedIn showed 4,000+ for SailPoint and 3,000+ for CyberArk in India.
We searched job portals while logged out on 24 October 2026. These are keyword-match counts. They include duplicates, recruiter re-posts and roles where the tool is only one of many listed skills, so they are not counts of open jobs.
What the listings tell you:
- Similar size, different titles. SailPoint searches return "SailPoint Developer", "IAM Engineer - SailPoint" and "SailPoint ISC Consultant". PAM roles appear as "Privileged Access Management Analyst" (Keyloop, Hyderabad, posted 19 October 2026) or "IAM-PAM Engineer support - L2" (BNP Paribas, Chennai, posted 9 October 2026).
- Experience is the gate. Almost every SailPoint listing we read asked for 3+ years. We found no SailPoint developer listing that genuinely accepted 0 years' experience; junior entry points were IAM operations, access management and support roles.
- Consulting firms want both. EY, Deloitte and PwC all had SailPoint listings in Hyderabad on 24 October 2026, and Big Four and IT services teams run IAM practices that cover IGA and PAM, and some listings name both tools.
For the full SailPoint job market, including city counts and companies, read our SailPoint career guide.
11. Salary compared: SailPoint vs CyberArk in India
Short answer: Typical pay is close: AmbitionBox showed ₹7.6 to 8.4 lakh a year for SailPoint developers and ₹8.4 to 9.3 lakh for CyberArk engineers in India in October 2026, but the two figures cover different experience ranges.
The figures below are AmbitionBox "typical ranges" shown to logged-out users in October 2026. They come from self-reported salaries, so treat them as guides, not offers.
By experience band, the picture is even closer:
How to read this:
- At 1 to 3 years, CyberArk engineers show slightly higher pay. At 3 to 6 years, SailPoint developers pull ahead. Neither tool clearly "pays more".
- The SailPoint 6 to 9 year band has only 4 salaries, so do not rely on it.
- Your title, employer and skills matter more than the tool. For example, AmbitionBox's broader "Identity and Access Management Engineer" title showed ₹10 to 11.1 lakh across 1 to 10 years (834 salaries, October 2026).
For deeper numbers, read our SailPoint developer salary guide and our CyberArk salary in India post.
12. Which should you learn first? Choose by your profile
Short answer: Pick SailPoint if you come from Java, testing or business analysis; pick CyberArk if you come from Windows, Linux, Active Directory or network administration; either works for support engineers who want to move into IAM.
A quick decision checklist
Choose SailPoint if most of these are true:
- You enjoy writing code and debugging logic.
- You like understanding how a business works: HR, finance, approvals.
- You want to work on long implementation projects in consulting firms.
Choose CyberArk if most of these are true:
- You like servers, networks and hands-on infrastructure.
- You are comfortable with security incidents and operations.
- You prefer configuring platforms over writing code.
What freshers should know
Be realistic. On 24 October 2026 we found no genuine fresher-level SailPoint developer listing on Naukri or LinkedIn. Freshers usually start in IAM operations, access management or service desk roles and move into SailPoint or CyberArk work after a year or two. Choose the tool that fits your background, build strong IAM basics, and target those junior operations roles first.
13. Can you learn both SailPoint and CyberArk?
Short answer: Yes, and many senior IAM consultants know both, but learn one deeply first and add the other once you have real project experience.
Trying to learn both at once usually leaves you shallow in each. A better sequence:
- Months 1 to 2: IAM foundations. Identities, accounts, entitlements, roles, JML, SoD, least privilege, Active Directory, SSO and MFA.
- Months 2 to 4: your primary tool. For SailPoint: aggregation, correlation, connectors, certifications, roles, workflows and BeanShell rules. For CyberArk: vaulting, safes, rotation, session access and endpoint privilege concepts.
- Months 4 to 6: projects and job hunt. Build two or three practice projects in your primary tool and apply for IAM operations or junior engineer roles.
- After your first year on the job: the second tool. Learn the integration first: how SailPoint governs CyberArk safes. That one topic links both worlds.
Combining IGA and PAM knowledge prepares you for consultant and architect roles, where AmbitionBox showed "IAM Consultant" pay of ₹14.4 to 16.1 lakh a year across 2 to 10 years (456 salaries, October 2026).
14. What the Palo Alto Networks deal means for learners
Short answer: CyberArk skills stay relevant because existing customers keep using the platform and the certifications still carry the CyberArk name, but expect to see "Idira" and "Palo Alto Networks" in job posts and product menus.
Practical points for learners in October 2026:
- The product did not disappear. Palo Alto Networks said CyberArk's platform stays available standalone while being integrated, and existing customers keep using it under Idira branding.
- Search for both names. Job posts may say CyberArk, PAM, Idira or Palo Alto identity security. Add all of them to your job alerts and resume keywords.
- Certifications still say CyberArk. The Pearson VUE catalogue lists CyberArk Defender, Sentry and Guardian exams. Whether new Idira-branded certifications will appear was not announced on the pages we checked.
- SailPoint is independent. SailPoint is its own listed company, and IdentityIQ 9.0 was announced in October 2026, which shows continued investment in the self-managed product as well as the cloud one.
15. How Brolly Academy helps
Short answer: Brolly Academy's SailPoint course is IdentityIQ-focused, with an introduction to IdentityNow, and shows how SailPoint integrates with tools such as CyberArk, ServiceNow and Active Directory.
If you choose SailPoint as your first tool, Brolly Academy's SailPoint Certification Training in Hyderabad is a 2-month programme. According to the course page (checked 24 October 2026):
- Syllabus: 10 modules covering IdentityIQ architecture and installation, Identity Cube, Delimited and JDBC connector onboarding, account correlation, Active Directory provisioning, policies, certifications, roles and rules, workflows and debugging.
- Integrations: the "tools you use" list includes CyberArk, ServiceNow, Workday, SAP and Active Directory; the course shows how SailPoint integrates with them rather than teaching each as a separate course.
- Projects: 6 capstone projects, including user onboarding, certification campaigns, joiner-mover-leaver provisioning, roles and policies, workflow automation and application integration.
- Modes and fees: Video Recording ₹9,999, Online ₹24,999 and Classroom ₹29,999, with EMI on the Online and Classroom plans. SailPoint exam fees are separate and paid to SailPoint.
- Support: resume help, mock interviews and placement assistance. Placement assistance is support with your search, not a job guarantee.
Brolly Academy did not have a dedicated CyberArk course page on 24 October 2026, so this course suits you if SailPoint is your first choice.

Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between SailPoint and CyberArk?
SailPoint is an identity governance and administration (IGA) platform that decides who should have access to what, automates joiner-mover-leaver changes and runs access reviews. CyberArk is a privileged access management (PAM) platform that vaults admin passwords, rotates them and controls and records privileged sessions. SailPoint governs access for everyone, while CyberArk protects the small set of powerful accounts that could seriously harm the business.
Are SailPoint and CyberArk the same?
No, they are not the same. SailPoint is IGA-first and CyberArk is PAM-first, so they solve different problems in identity security. There is some overlap in 2026, because the Idira platform lists identity governance and SailPoint now secures machine identities and secrets, but interviewers and buyers still treat SailPoint as the governance tool and CyberArk as the privileged access tool.
What is IGA vs PAM?
IGA, or identity governance and administration, manages and reviews everyone's access from hiring to exit and produces audit evidence. PAM, or privileged access management, adds extra protection to admin accounts, service accounts and secrets through vaulting, rotation, just-in-time access and session recording. IGA answers who should have access; PAM controls how powerful access is actually used. Most large enterprises need both layers.
Is SailPoint a PAM tool?
No, SailPoint is not a PAM tool. It is an IGA platform. SailPoint can govern access to privileged accounts, for example by managing who belongs to CyberArk safes through its connector, but it does not replace a credential vault or a session recording tool. Companies usually pair SailPoint with a PAM product such as CyberArk to cover both governance and privileged access protection.
Is CyberArk an IGA tool?
CyberArk is mainly a PAM tool. Since joining Palo Alto Networks, its Idira platform lists Identity Governance and Identity and Access Management alongside privileged access, endpoint privilege and secrets management. Even so, enterprises with complex role models and large certification programmes usually keep a dedicated IGA platform such as SailPoint and use CyberArk for privileged access.
Can SailPoint and CyberArk be used together?
Yes, and many large companies use them together. SailPoint decides and proves who should have privileged access, while CyberArk stores and rotates the credentials and records how they are used. Users request access to a CyberArk safe through SailPoint, managers approve it, SailPoint provisions it, and later reviews and leaver events remove it automatically.
How does SailPoint integrate with CyberArk?
SailPoint documents an integration with CyberArk Privileged Access Manager (Self-Hosted) for Identity Security Cloud. It provides governance for CyberArk accounts and groups, which CyberArk calls safes, with end-to-end lifecycle management, and it needs extra licensing. In practice, SailPoint aggregates accounts and safes, correlates them to people, handles requests and approvals, provisions safe membership and includes it in access reviews.
What is a safe in CyberArk?
A safe is a container inside the CyberArk vault that holds privileged credentials such as admin passwords and keys. Who belongs to a safe decides who can use the credentials inside it. That is why SailPoint treats safe membership as an entitlement: governing safe membership through requests, approvals and reviews is how the two tools connect.
Which is better to learn, SailPoint or CyberArk?
Neither is better for everyone. Learn SailPoint first if you have Java, testing or business analysis skills, because developer work uses Java, BeanShell and XML. Learn CyberArk first if you come from Windows, Linux, Active Directory or network administration, because PAM work builds on infrastructure skills. Job demand and typical pay in India are close, so match the tool to your background.
Which pays more in India, SailPoint or CyberArk?
Pay is close. In October 2026, AmbitionBox showed ₹7.6 to 8.4 lakh a year for SailPoint developers with 1 to 6 years and ₹8.4 to 9.3 lakh for CyberArk engineers with 2 to 9 years. At 1 to 3 years CyberArk was slightly higher, and at 3 to 6 years SailPoint developers were ahead, so neither clearly pays more.
Which has more jobs in India, SailPoint or CyberArk?
Demand is similar. On 24 October 2026, Naukri showed about 5,550 results for "sailpoint" and about 5,817 for "cyberark" across India, while LinkedIn showed 4,000+ for SailPoint and 3,000+ for CyberArk. These are keyword-match counts that include duplicates and loosely related roles, so they show demand trends rather than exact job openings.
Is SailPoint or CyberArk better for freshers?
Both are hard to enter straight from college. On 24 October 2026 we found no genuine fresher-level SailPoint developer listing on Naukri or LinkedIn, and most listings asked for 3 or more years. Freshers usually start in IAM operations, access management or service desk roles. Choose SailPoint if you know Java basics and CyberArk if you prefer servers and networks.
Does SailPoint need coding?
Yes, SailPoint developer roles need coding. Job descriptions ask for Java, BeanShell, XML, SQL and REST APIs, because you write rules and workflows for connectors, aggregation and provisioning. SailPoint operations roles, such as running certifications and handling tickets, need less coding, but development roles are where pay and growth are strongest.
Does CyberArk need coding?
CyberArk needs less application coding than SailPoint development. The work leans on Windows and Linux administration, Active Directory, networking basics and security operations: onboarding privileged accounts, setting rotation policies, configuring session access and troubleshooting connections. Scripting is helpful, which is why many server admins find CyberArk a natural first identity tool.
Is SailPoint harder to learn than CyberArk?
It depends on your background. SailPoint feels harder for non-coders because of rules, workflows and Java-based BeanShell. CyberArk feels harder for people without server and network experience because it builds on infrastructure skills. A Java developer usually picks up SailPoint faster, while a Windows or Linux admin usually picks up CyberArk faster.
Which certification is more valuable, SailPoint or CyberArk?
Neither certification guarantees a job. SailPoint has 7 credentials, including the IdentityIQ Engineer and Identity Security Engineer exams, while CyberArk has Defender, Sentry and Guardian levels. In the SailPoint job descriptions we read, certification was listed only as good to have. Pick the certification that matches the tool you work on, and back it with hands-on project experience.
How are SailPoint exams different from CyberArk exams?
SailPoint role-based exams are online-proctored through Proctor360, results are Pass/Fail with no published passing score, and each enrolment includes one free retake. CyberArk exams have been taken only in person at Pearson VUE test centres since 1 November 2025, after online proctoring was discontinued. So for CyberArk you must book a test centre slot in your city.
What happened to CyberArk after the Palo Alto Networks acquisition?
Palo Alto Networks completed its acquisition of CyberArk on 11 February 2026. On 12 May 2026 it introduced Idira, an identity security platform for human, machine and agentic identities, built on CyberArk's legacy. Existing CyberArk customers keep using the platform under the new branding, and Palo Alto said the platform would stay available standalone while being integrated.
Is CyberArk now called Idira?
In effect, CyberArk's platform is now branded Idira by Palo Alto Networks, and cyberark.com lands on the Idira page. The certifications on Pearson VUE still carry the CyberArk name, and job posts in India still say CyberArk or PAM. When you search for jobs or update your resume, include CyberArk, PAM and Idira as keywords.
Is CyberArk still a good career after the Palo Alto deal?
Yes, CyberArk skills remain relevant. Palo Alto Networks said the platform stays available while being integrated, and existing customers keep using it. Naukri still showed about 5,817 results for "cyberark" in India on 24 October 2026. Expect new branding such as Idira and a stronger focus on machine and AI agent identities as you grow.
Does SailPoint have its own privileged access module?
SailPoint's core strength is governance, not vaulting. It governs access to privileged accounts through integrations such as its CyberArk connector, and it now secures non-human identities and secrets through SailPoint Entro and Agentic Fabric. For vaulting admin passwords and recording privileged sessions, companies still typically use a PAM platform such as CyberArk alongside SailPoint.
Can I learn both SailPoint and CyberArk together?
You can, but learning both at once usually leaves you shallow in each. Build IAM foundations first, then learn one tool deeply with practice projects, and add the second after about a year of real work. Start the second tool with the integration topic, how SailPoint governs CyberArk safes, because it links both worlds and prepares you for consultant roles.
Which companies in India use SailPoint and CyberArk?
