Embedded systems jobs for freshers 2026: roles, skills and hiring, Brolly Academy

Quick answer

Yes, there are real embedded systems jobs for freshers in India, but you get them with proof of hands-on skill, not with a degree alone. Entry-level roles go by names such as embedded software engineer, firmware engineer, embedded systems engineer, embedded test or validation engineer and IoT engineer. Employers want strong C, microcontroller basics, the common communication protocols, debugging with real tools and two or three working projects. On 23 October 2026, a Naukri search for "embedded systems" showed 13,842 keyword-matched listings across India, so the market is active, but many listings ask for experience, which is why your projects matter so much.

  • Top titles to search: embedded software engineer, firmware engineer, embedded systems engineer, validation engineer, IoT engineer
  • Must-have skills: C, pointers and bit operations, GPIO, timers, interrupts, UART, SPI, I2C, basic electronics
  • Proof that gets you shortlisted: 2 to 3 hardware projects on GitHub with code, photos and a short demo video
  • Where to apply: company careers pages, job portals, LinkedIn, campus drives and internships that convert
  • Plan: 90 days of focused skill building, projects and applications

Key takeaways

  1. On 23 October 2026, Naukri listed 13,842 results for "embedded systems" across India. These are keyword matches, not a count of fresher-only openings.
  2. Embedded C is the single most important skill. Almost every entry-level listing asks for it.
  3. AmbitionBox shows a typical range of ₹6 lakh to ₹6.6 lakh a year for Embedded Engineers in India with 0 to 5 years of experience, based on 6.8k salaries (October 2026). A fresher offer can sit below that range.
  4. Automotive, consumer electronics, industrial automation, medical devices and semiconductors are the main areas that hire embedded engineers.
  5. Projects, an internship and a clean one-page resume beat a long list of certificates every time.

1. What counts as an embedded systems fresher job?

Short answer: An embedded systems fresher job is an entry-level role, usually for 0 to 1 year of experience, where you write, test or support the software and hardware inside a dedicated electronic device such as a car controller, a smart meter or a medical monitor.

An embedded system is a small computer built into a product to do one job well. It usually runs on a microcontroller, a single chip that holds a processor, memory and input/output pins. The program stored on that chip is called firmware. If you need a refresher on the basics, our guide to what embedded systems are covers the definition, types and examples.

A fresher job in this field is different from a general software job in three ways:

  • You work close to hardware. You read datasheets, wire up boards and use tools like a multimeter, an oscilloscope and a debugger.
  • Resources are tight. You may have only a few kilobytes of memory, so you write lean code.
  • Timing matters. Many devices must respond within a fixed time, so you learn about interrupts and real-time behaviour.

Most companies do not post a job called "embedded fresher". They post a normal title and set the experience to "0 to 1 years" or "0 to 2 years". That is why you should search by title and filter by experience, which we explain later.

2. Entry-level embedded job titles and what each one does

Short answer: The main entry-level titles are embedded software engineer, firmware engineer, embedded systems engineer, embedded hardware engineer, embedded test or validation engineer, IoT engineer, application engineer and, at a later stage, BSP or driver engineer. Each one leans more towards software, hardware or testing.

The titles below were all seen on Naukri's embedded systems listings on 23 October 2026. The descriptions explain what a fresher in that role usually does.

Job title What a fresher does Leans towards Embedded Software Engineer Writes and fixes C code for microcontrollers, adds features, tests on boards Software Firmware Engineer Writes low-level code that starts the chip, drives peripherals and handles updates Software close to hardware Embedded Systems Engineer Mix of hardware bring-up, firmware and integration testing Balanced Embedded Hardware Engineer Helps with schematics, board testing, component choice and lab measurements Hardware Validation or Test Engineer (Embedded) Writes test cases, runs tests on real hardware, logs and tracks bugs Testing IoT Engineer / Embedded Systems Engineer Connects devices to Wi-Fi or Bluetooth, sends data to a cloud or app Software and networking Application Engineer, Embedded Systems Helps customers use a chip or product, builds demo code, answers technical questions Customer-facing technical Embedded Systems Developer (Linux) Works on Linux-based devices, scripts, drivers and build systems Software (Linux) BSP or Driver Engineer (HAL/Driver) Ports software to new boards and writes device drivers Advanced, usually after 1 to 2 years

A few terms in that table need a quick explanation:

  • BSP (Board Support Package): the set of low-level code that lets an operating system run on a specific board.
  • HAL (Hardware Abstraction Layer): a layer of code that hides chip-specific details so higher-level code can stay the same across chips.
  • Driver: code that lets the main software talk to a piece of hardware, such as a sensor or a display.

Which title should you target first?

If you enjoy coding, start with embedded software engineer and firmware engineer roles. If you like circuits and lab work, add embedded hardware engineer. If you are not yet confident in development, embedded test and validation roles are a common and respectable door into the field. Many engineers move from validation into development after a year or two, because they already know the product and the hardware.

3. How many embedded jobs are there for freshers in India?

Short answer: On 23 October 2026, Naukri showed 13,842 listings for an "embedded systems" search across India, and Internshala showed 31 embedded systems internships. On 24 October 2026, the same Naukri search with the experience filter set to 0 years showed 638 listings. These are keyword-match counts that change daily.

Here are the numbers we checked:

Source Search Listings shown Naukri "embedded systems", all India 13,842 (23 Oct 2026) Naukri "embedded systems", all India, experience filter 0 years 638 (24 Oct 2026) Internshala Embedded systems internships 31 (23 Oct 2026)

The 0 years filter is the most useful number for a fresher. It cuts the India search down to roughly one listing in twenty, and even then some results are internships, teaching posts or roles that accept 0 to 4 years. For city-wise counts with direct search links, see the next section. Internships are covered in the "where and how to apply" section further down.

Read these numbers with care:

  • They are keyword matches. A listing appears if the words "embedded systems" show up anywhere in it. Some are core firmware roles. Others are hardware, testing, sales or general software roles that only mention embedded.
  • Not all are fresher roles. Many listings ask for 2 to 8 years of experience. Use the experience filter and set it to 0 or 1 year.
  • The same job can appear more than once. Recruiters and consultancies often repost the same role.
  • Counts change every day. Treat them as a snapshot of activity, not a fixed number of jobs.

The useful takeaway is this: the field is active and employers post embedded roles across the country every day. Your job is to stand out among the freshers who apply to the subset that accepts 0 to 1 year of experience.

If you are looking specifically in Hyderabad, our guide to embedded systems jobs in Hyderabad covers city-level listings, company types and local tips.

4. Embedded fresher jobs by city

Short answer: On 24 October 2026, Bengaluru had the most "embedded systems" listings on Naukri (4,674), followed by Hyderabad (2,024), Pune (1,859), Delhi NCR (1,647) and Chennai (1,210). These are keyword-match counts for all experience levels, so open each city search and set the experience filter to 0 to 1 year.

Freshers often search for embedded jobs city by city, because relocation, rent and family plans decide where they can join. The table below shows the Naukri count for an "embedded systems" search in each major hub, read on 24 October 2026, with a link to that live search.

City Naukri listings (24 Oct 2026) Types of employers you will see Live search Bengaluru 4,674 Semiconductor and chip design centres, automotive software, consumer devices, space and drone start-ups Naukri Bengaluru Hyderabad 2,024 Semiconductor and design services, defence and aerospace suppliers, robotics and IoT start-ups Naukri Hyderabad Pune 1,859 Automotive and EV suppliers, industrial automation, engineering services Naukri Pune Delhi NCR (incl. Noida) 1,647 Consumer electronics, telecom, engineering services, product start-ups Naukri Delhi NCR Chennai 1,210 Automotive, industrial equipment, engineering services Naukri Chennai

A separate Naukri search for Noida alone showed 647 listings on the same day. City pages overlap, because one listing can name several cities, so do not add the rows together. The "types of employers" column is a general guide to what each hub is known for, not a count.

How to use these city searches well:

  • Apply the experience filter first. Without it, most results ask for several years of experience.
  • Search by title as well as by city. Try "firmware engineer" or "embedded software engineer" plus the city name on Naukri, LinkedIn and Indeed.
  • Check work mode. On the Hyderabad page, for example, most listings were marked work from office, which matches the lab-based nature of embedded work.
  • Be open to a second city. If your home city has few fresher listings, a first year in a bigger hub can speed up your learning.

5. Companies with fresher-friendly embedded listings (seen on 24 October 2026)

Short answer: On 24 October 2026, the first page of Naukri's "embedded systems" search filtered to 0 years of experience showed listings from companies such as HCLTech, Arrow Electronics, Softdel Systems, GalaxEye Space, Xmachines and Elear Solutions. These are listings seen on that date, not hiring commitments.

Freshers often search by company name, so here is what we saw. The table lists the listing title, experience range and location exactly as Naukri showed them on the first results page of the 0 years filter on 24 October 2026. Teaching posts and internships are left out of the table.

Company (as listed) Listing title seen Experience shown Location HCLTech Embedded Testing Engineer 0 to 2 years Bengaluru Arrow Electronics Apprentice, Embedded Engineer 0 to 1 year Bengaluru Softdel Systems Software Engineer, Embedded Systems (Fresher) 0 to 2 years Pune GalaxEye Space Embedded Systems Engineer, Fresher 0 to 1 year Bengaluru Xmachines Junior Embedded Systems Engineer 0 to 3 years Hyderabad Elear Solutions and Detect Technologies Embedded Systems Developer (Linux) 0 to 2 years Hyderabad Eurth Techtronics Embedded Systems Engineer 0 to 2 years Hyderabad Episteme Soft Embedded Software Engineer (IoT Applications and Analytics) 0 to 2 years Bengaluru Hyprix Embedded Software Engineer 0 to 2 years Bengaluru Electrifex Embedded Software Engineer (C/C++) 0 to 3 years Kochi Optimized Solutions Embedded Software Engineer 0 to 2 years Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar

The same page also showed embedded internships from Oorja Energy and Zitto Motors in Bengaluru and Robu.in in Pune.

Keep three things in mind:

  • Listings expire fast. Some of these may close within days. Search the company name on Naukri or its own careers page before you apply.
  • A listing is not a promise. It shows a company was looking on that date, not that it will hire freshers every month.
  • Big names are only part of the market. Most of the listings on that first page came from smaller product companies and start-ups, which often give freshers more hands-on hardware work.

Notice the mix of routes in that list: a regular engineer title, a fresher-labelled title, a testing role and an apprentice role. Trainee and apprentice posts usually pay less at first, but they give you lab time, a reference and a clear path into a full engineering role.

6. Skills employers list for embedded freshers

Short answer: Employers want strong C programming, microcontroller and peripheral basics, the common protocols (UART, SPI, I2C and often CAN), interrupts and timers, basic electronics, debugging with real tools, Git and, for many roles, an introduction to RTOS or embedded Linux.

Here is the skill set that shows up again and again in entry-level embedded listings, sorted from "must have" to "nice to have".

Skill What it means in simple words Priority for freshers C and embedded C Pointers, structures, bit operations, the volatile keyword, memory layout Must have Microcontroller basics How a chip boots, its memory map, clocks and registers Must have GPIO, timers, PWM Controlling pins, measuring time, driving motors and LEDs Must have Interrupts and ISRs Responding to hardware events quickly Must have UART, SPI, I2C The common ways chips talk to sensors and each other Must have Basic electronics Ohm's law, pull-up resistors, voltage levels, reading a schematic Must have Debugging tools Debugger, multimeter, oscilloscope, logic analyser Strongly preferred Git Saving and sharing code versions Strongly preferred RTOS basics Tasks, priorities, semaphores, queues Preferred CAN The main bus inside cars Preferred for automotive Embedded Linux basics Linux on small boards, cross-compiling, simple drivers Preferred for Linux roles Python Test scripts and quick tools Nice to have

The jargon, explained once

  • GPIO (General Purpose Input/Output): pins on a microcontroller that you can set high or low, or read as inputs. Blinking an LED is a GPIO task.
  • ISR (Interrupt Service Routine): a short function that the chip runs immediately when a hardware event happens, such as a button press or data arriving.
  • UART: a simple two-wire serial link, often used for debug messages to a PC.
  • SPI: a fast serial bus with a clock line, used for displays, memory chips and some sensors.
  • I2C: a two-wire bus where many devices share the same lines, each with its own address.
  • RTOS (Real-Time Operating System): a small operating system that runs several tasks and makes sure urgent tasks run on time. FreeRTOS and Zephyr are well-known examples.
  • Bootloader: a small program that runs first when the chip powers on and can load or update the main firmware.

Soft skills matter too

Embedded work is team work. You will sit with hardware engineers, testers and project leads. Employers look for clear written bug reports, the patience to read a long datasheet, honest status updates and the habit of asking good questions after you have tried yourself.

Will AI replace embedded fresher jobs?

AI coding assistants can draft code, but embedded work still needs someone who understands the hardware, measures signals on a real board and proves the device is safe and reliable. Use AI tools to learn faster and write test scripts, but make sure you can explain every line you submit. Interviewers in this field still test fundamentals by hand.

7. Industries hiring embedded freshers

Short answer: The main industries are automotive, consumer electronics, industrial automation, medical devices and semiconductors, with telecom, aerospace and defence, and IoT product companies also hiring. Engineering services companies hire across all of these.

India's electronics sector has grown fast, which helps embedded demand. A government note hosted by PIB on the Electronics Component Manufacturing Scheme says India's electronics production grew from ₹1.9 lakh crore in 2014-15 to ₹11.3 lakh crore in 2024-25, and mentions around 25 lakh jobs (PIB-hosted ECMS note, February 2026). The same note gives the scheme an outlay of ₹40,000 crore in the Budget 2026-27. Not all of these jobs are embedded roles, but more electronics made in India means more products that need firmware, testing and integration.

Industry What embedded freshers work on Skills that help most Automotive Body controllers, battery and motor control, infotainment, diagnostics C, CAN, testing discipline, safety awareness Consumer electronics Wearables, smart home devices, audio products, appliances Low-power design, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi Industrial automation Controllers, drives, sensors, data loggers Modbus, RS-485, reliability, real-time code Medical devices Monitors, infusion pumps, diagnostic devices Careful testing, documentation, quality processes Semiconductors Chip validation, reference designs, example code, customer support C, debugging, reading datasheets, Python scripts Telecom and networking Routers, gateways, network equipment Embedded Linux, networking basics Aerospace and defence Avionics, radar and communication systems C, RTOS, strict process, documentation

Product companies vs services companies

Product companies build their own devices or chips. You go deep into one product and learn a lot about quality. Fresher openings are fewer and the bar is higher.

Engineering services companies build or test embedded software for clients in many industries. They often hire more freshers in batches and train them. You may work on testing first, but you see many domains early.

Both are good starts. Pick the one that gives you hands-on work with real hardware.

8. Embedded fresher salary: what to expect

Short answer: AmbitionBox shows a typical range of ₹6 lakh to ₹6.6 lakh a year for Embedded Engineers in India with 0 to 5 years of experience, and ₹6.8 lakh to ₹7.5 lakh for Embedded Systems Engineers with 0 to 6 years. These ranges include people with a few years of experience, so a first offer can be lower.

Here are the ranges we checked on the AmbitionBox Embedded Engineer salary page and the AmbitionBox Embedded Systems Engineer salary page in October 2026, as shown to visitors who are not logged in:

Role (India) Typical range on AmbitionBox Experience covered Salaries reported Embedded Engineer ₹6 L to ₹6.6 L a year 0 to 5 years 6.8k Embedded Systems Engineer ₹6.8 L to ₹7.5 L a year 0 to 6 years 1.2k

How to read these numbers:

  • They are ranges, not exact averages. AmbitionBox shows a typical range to logged-out visitors. Exact averages sit behind a login and we have not used them.
  • They are self-reported. Employees submit them, so they vary by company, city and skill.
  • They are not fresher-only. Both ranges mix freshers with people who have several years of experience.

Your first offer depends on the type of company, the role (development usually pays more than pure testing), your city and how well you do in the technical rounds. For role-wise ranges, firmware pay and Hyderabad figures, see our full guide to embedded engineer salary in India.

9. Where and how to apply for embedded fresher jobs

Short answer: Apply through company careers pages, job portals with the experience filter set to 0 to 1 year, LinkedIn, campus and off-campus drives, and internships that can turn into full-time offers. Apply every day, tailor your resume to each title, and follow up.

1. Company careers pages

Product and semiconductor companies post graduate and intern roles on their own careers pages, often before job portals. Make a list of 20 to 30 companies in the industries above and check their pages every week. Set up job alerts where the site allows it.

2. Job portals with smart filters

On Naukri, LinkedIn, Indeed and similar portals:

  • Search by title, such as "embedded software engineer" or "firmware engineer", not just "embedded".
  • Set experience to 0 years or 0 to 1 year.
  • Add a skill such as "embedded C" or "microcontroller" to narrow results.
  • Sort by date and apply to roles posted in the last few days.
  • Skip listings that ask you to pay a fee to get the job.

3. LinkedIn and your network

Follow embedded teams, comment thoughtfully on engineers' posts and share short updates about your projects. A short, polite message to an engineer at a company you like ("I built X with Y; could you tell me what your team looks for in freshers?") often gets a reply. Ask for advice first, not a job.

4. Campus and off-campus drives

Many services companies hire freshers in batches through campus drives and off-campus registrations. Keep your aptitude and C basics sharp, because the first round is often an online test. Some companies also hold walk-in drives. Go only to walk-ins announced on the company's own website or official social pages, and never pay anyone to "arrange" an interview.

5. Apprentice and trainee routes

Apprentice and graduate trainee roles are a real way in, especially at distributors, manufacturers and services companies. You earn less in the first months, but you get structured training, lab access and a reference. Search for "apprentice embedded", "graduate engineer trainee electronics" and "trainee firmware" with your city name.

6. Internships that convert

An internship is one of the fastest ways into embedded work. You get real hardware experience and a reference, and many companies offer full-time roles to interns who do well. Our guide to the embedded systems internship explains where to find them, what interns do and how to avoid pay-to-intern schemes.

Red flags to avoid

  • Any "job" that asks you to pay for training, a laptop or a "registration fee" first.
  • Offers without a written letter, a company address or a named manager.
  • Bonds with very large penalties that you have not read carefully.

What about remote work?

Some embedded roles allow partial work from home, especially for software, testing scripts and documentation. But most fresher roles need you in a lab with boards, probes and test equipment, at least in the first year. Expect to work on site.

10. Resume tips for embedded freshers (with 6 sample bullets)

Short answer: Keep it to one page, put a skills line and two or three projects at the top, write each project as a result with numbers you measured yourself, and link your GitHub.

A good embedded fresher resume has this order:

  1. Name, phone, email, city, GitHub and LinkedIn links.
  2. A two-line summary: what you build and what role you want.
  3. Skills, grouped: languages, microcontrollers and boards, protocols, tools.
  4. Projects (two or three, the most important section).
  5. Internship or training, if any.
  6. Education.

Six sample resume bullets

Adapt these to your own work. Only write numbers you actually measured.

  • Built a temperature and humidity logger on a Cortex-M board that reads an I2C sensor every second and stores data on an SD card over SPI; ran it for 72 hours without a reset.
  • Wrote an interrupt-driven UART command interface in embedded C that accepts 10 commands for setting PWM duty cycle and reading sensor values.
  • Reduced average current of a battery-powered sensor node by using sleep modes and timer wake-ups, and measured the result with a multimeter.
  • Debugged a failing I2C link by capturing SDA and SCL lines with a logic analyser and found a missing pull-up resistor.
  • Created two FreeRTOS tasks, one for sensor reading and one for display, that share data through a queue, and documented the design on GitHub.
  • Wrote a Python script that sends test commands over a serial port and checks responses, cutting manual test time for each firmware build.

Avoid long skill lists with no proof, vague lines like "worked on embedded systems", and a GitHub with no README, photos or wiring diagram.

11. The interview process for embedded fresher roles

Short answer: Most companies use an online test (aptitude and C), one or two technical interviews on C, microcontrollers, protocols and your projects, sometimes a practical or debugging task, and an HR round.

What each round usually checks:

  • Online test: aptitude, output-of-C-code questions, pointers and bit operations, basic digital electronics.
  • Technical round 1: C deep dive (pointers, memory, volatile, structures), microcontroller basics, interrupts.
  • Technical round 2: protocols (UART vs SPI vs I2C, sometimes CAN), RTOS basics, and a walk-through of your best project.
  • Practical task (some companies): write a small function, read a schematic or explain how you would debug a board that does not boot.
  • HR round: relocation, shifts, bond terms and your reasons for choosing embedded.

Your project walk-through is often the deciding factor. Be ready to draw your block diagram, explain why you chose each part and describe one bug you fixed. For a full bank of questions with model answers, see our embedded systems interview questions guide.

12. A 90-day plan to get your first embedded job

Short answer: Spend the first 30 days fixing your C and microcontroller basics, the next 30 days building two portfolio projects with protocols and interrupts, and the last 30 days on an RTOS mini project, your resume and daily applications and mock interviews.

This plan assumes you can spend 3 to 4 hours a day and have one low-cost development board, such as an Arduino, ESP32 or Raspberry Pi Pico board, plus a breadboard, a few sensors and a multimeter.

Days Focus Output by the end 1 to 30 C (pointers, structures, bit operations, volatile), microcontroller basics, GPIO, timers, interrupts 30 solved C problems; LED, button and timer programs on your board 31 to 60 UART, I2C, SPI, PWM, reading datasheets, logic analyser or oscilloscope basics 2 portfolio projects on GitHub with README, photos and a demo video 61 to 90 RTOS basics, one RTOS mini project, resume, LinkedIn, applications, mock interviews 1 RTOS project, a one-page resume, 60+ targeted applications, 5+ mock interviews

A few tips make the plan work:

  • Days 1 to 30: write register-level code for at least one peripheral, not only library calls. It shows you understand what the library hides.
  • Days 31 to 60: build a sensor logger (I2C sensor, output over UART) and a PWM dimmer with a button interrupt. Capture one bus with a logic analyser and add the screenshot to your README.
  • Days 61 to 90: port one project to FreeRTOS or Zephyr, apply to 4 to 5 targeted roles every day, and apply for internships in parallel.

Keep a simple tracker of every application, the date and the reply. If you get no calls after three or four weeks, improve your resume and your project READMEs before you change anything else.

13. Common mistakes freshers make

Short answer: The biggest mistakes are learning only Arduino libraries, collecting certificates instead of building projects, applying with one generic resume, ignoring electronics basics and giving up after a few weeks of applications.

  • Only using libraries. Libraries are fine for starting, but interviewers ask what happens underneath. Learn at least one peripheral at register level.
  • Certificates instead of projects. A certificate can support your resume, but employers shortlist on skills and projects they can see.
  • Weak C. Many freshers fail the first technical round on pointers and bit operations. Practise daily.
  • Ignoring hardware. You do not need to design boards, but you must read a schematic and use a multimeter.
  • One resume for every job. Adjust your summary and skills order for firmware, testing and IoT roles.
  • Applying only to big brand names. Smaller product companies and services firms often give freshers more hands-on work.
  • Stopping too early. Embedded hiring can take weeks. Keep building and applying while you wait.

What are embedded systems entry level jobs?

Embedded systems entry level jobs are roles for people with 0 to 1 or 0 to 2 years of experience who write, test or support the software and hardware inside dedicated devices. Typical tasks include writing C code for microcontrollers, testing firmware on real boards, logging bugs and helping with hardware bring-up. Most companies post them under normal titles with a low experience setting.

Can a CSE student get an embedded systems job?

Yes, a CSE student can get an embedded systems job. Your programming background is a strength, especially in C, data structures and operating system concepts. You need to add microcontroller basics, peripherals, protocols and basic electronics such as pull-up resistors and voltage levels. Build hardware projects on a low-cost board to prove you can work close to the hardware.

Can EEE or mechanical graduates get embedded jobs?

Yes, EEE and mechanical graduates can get embedded jobs if they build strong C skills and hands-on microcontroller projects. EEE graduates already understand circuits, which helps in hardware and validation roles. Mechanical graduates often fit well in automotive and industrial automation work. In every case, projects and C skills matter more to employers than the branch printed on your degree.

Is embedded C enough to get a job?

Embedded C is the most important skill, but it is not enough on its own. Employers also expect microcontroller basics, interrupts, timers, the UART, SPI and I2C protocols, and the ability to debug with real tools. Adding RTOS basics and two or three working projects turns your C knowledge into proof that you can deliver on real hardware.

Do freshers need to know RTOS for embedded jobs?

You do not need to be an RTOS expert as a fresher, but you should know the basics. Understand tasks, priorities, delays, queues and semaphores, and build one small project with FreeRTOS or Zephyr. Many embedded listings mark RTOS as preferred, and interviewers often ask simple RTOS questions, so a small working project gives you a clear edge.

Do freshers need embedded Linux skills?

Embedded Linux is not required for most fresher roles, but it helps for Linux-based device, telecom and networking jobs. Learn it after you are comfortable with C and microcontrollers. Start with using Linux on a small board, cross-compiling a simple program and understanding what a device driver does. Listings titled Embedded Systems Developer (Linux) will ask for these skills.

Which industries hire embedded freshers in India?

The main industries hiring embedded freshers are automotive, consumer electronics, industrial automation, medical devices and semiconductors. Telecom and networking, aerospace and defence, and IoT product companies also hire. Engineering services companies hire across all of these domains, often in batches, which makes them a common first employer for freshers.

Which types of companies hire embedded freshers?

Two types of companies hire embedded freshers: product companies and engineering services companies. Product companies build their own devices or chips, so you go deep into one product, but openings are fewer and the bar is higher. Services companies build or test embedded software for many clients, often hire freshers in batches and train them, and expose you to many domains early.

What projects should embedded freshers put on their resume?

Put two or three projects that show different skills, such as a sensor logger using I2C and UART, a PWM motor or LED controller using interrupts, and a small RTOS project with two tasks sharing data through a queue. Add a README, photos, a wiring diagram and a short demo video on GitHub, and write measured results on your resume.

How long does it take to get an embedded job as a fresher?

It varies, but a focused 90-day plan is a realistic way to become job-ready. Spend 30 days on C and microcontroller basics, 30 days on protocol projects and 30 days on an RTOS project, your resume and daily applications. Hiring itself can take several more weeks, so keep building and applying while you wait for interview calls.

Are internships useful for getting an embedded job?

Yes, internships are one of the fastest routes into embedded jobs. You get real hardware experience, a reference and a project you can discuss in interviews, and many companies offer full-time roles to interns who perform well. On 23 October 2026, Internshala listed 31 embedded systems internships. Avoid any internship that asks you to pay to join.

What does an embedded test or validation engineer do?

An embedded test or validation engineer checks that firmware and hardware work as required. As a fresher you write test cases, run them on real boards, record results, log bugs and help developers reproduce problems. It is a common and respectable entry point, and many engineers move into development after a year or two because they already know the product well.

Which city has the most embedded jobs for freshers?

Bengaluru had the most embedded systems listings on Naukri when we checked on 24 October 2026, with 4,674 keyword-matched results. Hyderabad followed with 2,024, then Pune with 1,859, Delhi NCR with 1,647 and Chennai with 1,210. These counts include experienced roles and change every day, so use them to see where activity is highest, then filter each city search to 0 to 1 year of experience.

Which companies hire embedded freshers in India?

Many companies post embedded roles open to freshers, but listings change daily. On 24 October 2026, Naukri's embedded systems search filtered to 0 years of experience showed listings from companies such as HCLTech, Arrow Electronics, Softdel Systems, GalaxEye Space, Xmachines and Elear Solutions. Treat these as listings seen on that date, not hiring commitments, and check each company's own careers page before you apply.

What is the interview process for embedded fresher jobs?

Most embedded fresher interviews start with an online test on aptitude and C. Then come one or two technical rounds on pointers, memory, microcontrollers, interrupts, protocols, RTOS basics and your projects. Some companies add a practical debugging or coding task. The last step is an HR round about relocation, shifts and bond terms.

Can freshers start as embedded apprentices or trainees?

Yes, apprentice and trainee roles are a real entry route into embedded work. On 24 October 2026, Naukri showed an apprentice embedded engineer listing from Arrow Electronics in Bengaluru, and services companies often hire freshers in batches and train them. These roles usually pay less at first, but they give you lab time, structured training, a reference and a path to a full engineering role.

Is the embedded job market growing in India?

The wider electronics sector in India has grown fast, which supports embedded demand. A PIB-hosted government note from February 2026 says electronics production grew from ₹1.9 lakh crore in 2014-15 to ₹11.3 lakh crore in 2024-25, and mentions around 25 lakh jobs. More electronics made in India means more products that need firmware and testing.
