Business analyst salary in India 2026, Brolly Academy

Quick answer

A business analyst in India typically earns ₹9.7–10.7 lakh a year, with an average of about ₹10.2 lakh, based on about 1.5 lakh salaries (AmbitionBox, October 2026). That range covers 1–9 years of experience. Freshers start lower, in junior, associate or trainee roles. Senior business analysts typically earn ₹15.4–17 lakh a year on the same platform.

  • Fresher (0–1 year): about ₹3–5.8 lakh a year on average, depending on the job title
  • Early career (1–3 years): about ₹7–7.7 lakh a year
  • Mid level (3–6 years): about ₹8.7–9.7 lakh a year
  • Senior (9–12 years): about ₹13.7–15.1 lakh a year as a business analyst, and ₹17.9–19.7 lakh with a senior title
  • Best-paying industries in the data: banking, internet, financial services and fintech

Key takeaways

  1. Your title changes your pay more than your city. The senior business analyst title adds several lakh a year at the same experience level.
  2. City gaps are small. The main BA cities sit within about ₹1 lakh of each other at the typical level.
  3. Industry gaps are large. Banking and internet companies pay clearly more than IT services and analytics or KPO firms.
  4. Your first title sets your fresher pay. Associate business analyst roles usually pay more than trainee or junior roles.
  5. Treat every figure as a range, not a promise. Salary sites use self-reported data.

1. What is the average business analyst salary in India?

Short answer: The average business analyst salary in India is about ₹10.2 lakh a year, or about ₹84,900 a month before deductions, according to AmbitionBox (October 2026). The typical range is ₹9.7–10.7 lakh a year for 1–9 years of experience.

You probably want one number. The honest answer is a range, because "business analyst" covers very different jobs. A fresher writing user stories in an IT services firm and a banking BA with eight years of domain knowledge share the same title.

Job title Typical salary (per year) Experience covered Sample size Business Analyst ₹9.7–10.7 lakh 1–9 years About 1.5 lakh salaries IT Business Analyst ₹10.9–12 lakh 2–11 years About 2,300 salaries Product Analyst ₹11.6–12.8 lakh 0–10 years About 1,100 salaries Senior Business Analyst ₹15.4–17 lakh 3–12 years About 48,600 salaries Business Analyst - Manager ₹15.3–16.9 lakh 3–17 years 73 salaries

Source: AmbitionBox role pages, updated 18–22 October 2026.

The same AmbitionBox page says the top 10% of business analysts earn more than ₹15.7 lakh a year and the top 1% earn more than ₹25.8 lakh (October 2026). Keep sample size in mind. A title with 1.5 lakh salaries is far more reliable than one with 73.

2. Business analyst salary by experience

Short answer: Business analysts with 1–3 years of experience typically earn ₹7–7.7 lakh a year. Pay rises to ₹8.7–9.7 lakh at 3–6 years, ₹11.4–12.6 lakh at 6–9 years and ₹13.7–15.1 lakh at 9–12 years (AmbitionBox, October 2026).

Your salary grows in steps, usually when your title or domain changes.

Experience Typical salary (per year) Average (per year) Sample size 1–3 years ₹7–7.7 lakh ₹7.3 lakh About 50,400 salaries 3–6 years ₹8.7–9.7 lakh ₹9.2 lakh About 69,200 salaries 6–9 years ₹11.4–12.6 lakh ₹12 lakh About 30,800 salaries 9–12 years ₹13.7–15.1 lakh ₹14.4 lakh About 3,700 salaries

Source: AmbitionBox Business Analyst page, October 2026.

The sample shrinks after 9 years because most experienced BAs change title. They become senior BAs, lead BAs, product owners or consultants. The senior title gives a better view of later-career pay.

Experience Senior Business Analyst typical salary (per year) Average (per year) 3–6 years ₹13–14.3 lakh ₹13.7 lakh 6–9 years ₹15–16.5 lakh ₹15.8 lakh 9–12 years ₹17.9–19.7 lakh ₹18.8 lakh 12+ years ₹20.8–22.9 lakh ₹21.9 lakh

Source: AmbitionBox Senior Business Analyst salaries, updated 22 October 2026.

At 3–6 years, a business analyst typically earns ₹8.7–9.7 lakh, while a senior business analyst earns ₹13–14.3 lakh. A promotion, or a move to a company that gives you the senior title, is your biggest single salary lever.

What changes at each stage. As a fresher, you support a senior BA with notes, user stories, Jira updates and test cases. At 1–3 years, you own requirements for one module and should pick a domain such as banking, insurance, healthcare or e-commerce. At 3–6 years, you run full projects and guide juniors. After 6 years, you shape solutions, lead BA teams or own a product area.

3. Business analyst salary for freshers

Short answer: Freshers with 0–1 year of experience usually earn about ₹3–5.8 lakh a year on average, depending on the title. Business analyst interns report ₹3.7–4.1 lakh a year, junior business analysts about ₹4 lakh and associate business analysts about ₹5.8 lakh (AmbitionBox, October 2026).

Freshers rarely get the plain "Business Analyst" title on day one. Here is what the common entry titles pay in the 0–1 year band.

Entry title 0–1 year salary on AmbitionBox Sample note Business Analyst Trainee Average ₹3 lakh a year Small sample (37 salaries) Business Analyst Intern ₹3.7–4.1 lakh a year 845 salaries Junior Business Analyst Average ₹4 lakh a year Title has about 2,100 salaries Associate Business Analyst Average ₹5.8 lakh a year Title has about 7,000 salaries

Sources: AmbitionBox pages for Business Analyst Intern (18 October 2026), Junior Business Analyst (21 October 2026), Associate Business Analyst (22 October 2026) and Business Analyst Trainee (16 October 2026).

Fresher pay varies for three reasons. Large employers often hire freshers into graduate programmes with "associate" titles, which pay more. Smaller firms more often use "trainee" titles. And a strong background, such as an MBA, an internship or a portfolio of BRDs, process maps and SQL reports, helps you start higher.

The jump after your first role is large. Junior BAs average about ₹4 lakh at 0–1 year, while business analysts at 1–3 years typically earn ₹7–7.7 lakh (AmbitionBox, October 2026). Moving from a junior or trainee title to a full BA title is what unlocks that jump. For entry titles, where to apply and a hiring plan, read our guide to business analyst jobs for freshers.

4. Business analyst salary by role

Short answer: On AmbitionBox in October 2026, product analysts typically earn ₹11.6–12.8 lakh a year, IT business analysts ₹10.9–12 lakh, senior business analysts ₹15.4–17 lakh and BA managers ₹15.3–16.9 lakh. There is no reliable single figure for a "data business analyst" title.

IT business analyst

IT BAs connect business teams and developers through specifications, user stories and acceptance criteria. AmbitionBox shows ₹10.9–12 lakh a year for 2–11 years of experience (updated 18 October 2026). Averages are about ₹5.9 lakh at 1–3 years, ₹8.1 lakh at 3–6 years, ₹12 lakh at 6–9 years and ₹15.8 lakh at 9–12 years.

Data business analyst

A data BA combines requirements work with SQL, dashboards and data checks. AmbitionBox has no large sample for this title, so we will not quote one. For reference, the AmbitionBox Data Analyst page shows ₹6.5–7.2 lakh a year for 0–6 years of experience (October 2026). BAs with strong SQL and BI skills can compete for data BA and product analyst roles, which tend to pay more. See data analyst vs business analyst for a full comparison.

Product analyst

Product analysts study how customers use a product, track funnels and support product decisions. AmbitionBox shows ₹11.6–12.8 lakh a year for 0–10 years of experience (updated 21 October 2026). Averages are about ₹7.8 lakh at 0–1 year, ₹10.3 lakh at 1–3 years, ₹13.2 lakh at 3–6 years and ₹14.7 lakh at 6–9 years. Most of these roles sit in internet, software product and fintech companies.

Senior business analyst

Senior BAs own complete projects and guide juniors. AmbitionBox shows ₹15.4–17 lakh a year for 3–12 years of experience, about 8% growth in the average salary over the last two years, and a top 10% earning more than ₹24.7 lakh a year (updated 22 October 2026).

Business analyst manager

BA managers lead analyst teams. AmbitionBox shows ₹15.3–16.9 lakh a year for 3–17 years of experience, with averages of about ₹18.1 lakh at 9–12 years and ₹19.8 lakh at 12+ years (updated 20 October 2026). The page has only 73 salaries, many from banks, so treat it as a rough guide. Many people at this level carry titles like lead BA, delivery manager or product owner instead.

5. Business analyst salary by city

Short answer: City gaps are small. Hyderabad shows ₹10.2–11.3 lakh a year, Bengaluru ₹10.1–11.2 lakh, Pune ₹9.8–10.9 lakh, Mumbai ₹9.9–10.9 lakh and Chennai ₹9.8–10.9 lakh. In Delhi NCR, Gurugram shows ₹9.8–10.8 lakh, New Delhi ₹9.5–10.6 lakh and Noida ₹9–10 lakh (AmbitionBox, October 2026).

City Typical BA salary (per year) Senior BA salary (per year) Sample size (BA) Hyderabad ₹10.2–11.3 lakh ₹15.4–17 lakh About 16,900 Bengaluru ₹10.1–11.2 lakh ₹15.9–17.6 lakh About 32,800 Mumbai ₹9.9–10.9 lakh ₹15.2–16.8 lakh About 14,400 Pune ₹9.8–10.9 lakh ₹15.6–17.3 lakh About 17,200 Chennai ₹9.8–10.9 lakh Not listed in the table About 11,200 Gurugram (Delhi NCR) ₹9.8–10.8 lakh ₹15.1–16.7 lakh About 10,400 New Delhi (Delhi NCR) ₹9.5–10.6 lakh Not listed in the table About 10,900 Noida (Delhi NCR) ₹9–10 lakh Not listed in the table About 7,200

Sources: AmbitionBox Business Analyst and Senior Business Analyst location tables (October 2026), and AmbitionBox city pages for Hyderabad, Gurugram, New Delhi and Noida (updated 21 October 2026).

Hyderabad leads the AmbitionBox list for business analysts. Bengaluru has the largest sample and the highest senior BA pay, and product analysts there typically earn ₹12.2–13.7 lakh a year. Pune and Mumbai sit close behind, with Mumbai suited to banking and insurance domain BAs. Chennai matches Pune at the typical level. In Delhi NCR, Gurugram pays the most of the three cities, and it is also strong for product analysts at ₹11.9–14.3 lakh a year (AmbitionBox, October 2026).

Should you move cities for pay? Usually not. The gap across the main cities is about ₹1 lakh a year, and rent and travel can wipe that out. A better title, industry or skill set moves your salary far more.

6. Business analyst salary by industry and company

Short answer: Industry matters more than city. AmbitionBox shows the highest average BA pay in banking (about ₹13 lakh a year), internet (₹12.5 lakh), financial services (₹12.2 lakh) and fintech (₹11.9 lakh). IT services and consulting typically pays ₹9–9.9 lakh, and analytics and KPO firms ₹7.9–8.7 lakh (October 2026).

Industry Typical BA salary (per year) Sample size Internet ₹11.8–13.1 lakh About 7,600 Management consulting ₹10.7–11.8 lakh About 9,800 Software product ₹9.8–10.8 lakh About 9,400 IT services and consulting ₹9–9.9 lakh About 56,900 Analytics and KPO ₹7.9–8.7 lakh About 8,600

Source: AmbitionBox Business Analyst page, industry table, October 2026.

The gap widens for senior BAs. Financial services typically pays ₹18.7–20.7 lakh and internet companies ₹19.5–21.6 lakh, compared with ₹14.7–16.2 lakh in IT services and consulting (AmbitionBox, October 2026).

AmbitionBox also shows typical BA pay at large employers, across all experience levels (October 2026):

Company Typical BA salary (per year) Amazon ₹14.8–16.4 lakh Infosys ₹12.5–13.8 lakh Deloitte ₹10.6–11.7 lakh Cognizant ₹9.5–10.5 lakh Capgemini ₹9.3–10.3 lakh Accenture ₹8.9–9.9 lakh Genpact ₹8.2–9.1 lakh Wipro ₹7.9–8.7 lakh Tech Mahindra ₹7.6–8.3 lakh TCS ₹6.4–7.1 lakh

Source: AmbitionBox Business Analyst page, popular companies list, October 2026.

Company averages depend on who reports. A firm that hires many freshers as "business analysts" shows a lower average even if its senior BAs are well paid. Use this table to read the market, not to judge one offer.

7. Business analyst salary by skill and certification

Short answer: AmbitionBox does not publish a salary for each skill or certification, so no one can honestly give you an exact "CBAP salary". It does show that SQL, Agile, Scrum, Jira, requirement gathering, BRDs, user stories and data analysis are the top skills in BA profiles (October 2026). These skills, plus domain knowledge, lead to the better-paying roles.

On the same AmbitionBox page, SQL is linked to about 33,000 job listings, Agile to about 29,700 and project management to about 24,900 (October 2026). Here is how skills connect to pay:

  • SQL and data analysis open data BA and product analyst roles.
  • Agile, Scrum and Jira help you move into senior and product owner roles.
  • Requirements, BRDs and user stories are the core of the job. Doing them well gets you promoted.
  • Domain knowledge in banking or financial services pushes you toward the top-paying industries.
  • Communication was the top skill for the third year running in the IIBA 2026 Global State of Business Analysis report, based on 2,120 respondents in 122 countries (IIBA, June 2026).

The same report found 69% of respondents say AI has a positive impact on their careers, down from 74% in 2025. There is no verified salary figure for AI skills yet, but BAs who use AI tools well can take on more work. For a full skills list, see business analyst skills.

Certifications

Certifications have no fixed salary bump, but they prove your knowledge and signal seniority.

  • ECBA suits freshers. The package costs "$395 or less" and includes IIBA membership, the exam and a practice exam (IIBA, October 2026).
  • CBAP needs 7,500 hours (5+ years) of BA work in the last 10 years, with 120 questions in 210 minutes (IIBA, October 2026). The application fee is $145, and the exam costs $350 for members and $505 for non-members.

Because CBAP holders already have 5+ years of experience, they usually fall in the senior BA pay bands above. Read our CBAP certification guide for full details.

8. Business analyst salary per month

Short answer: The ₹10.2 lakh average works out to about ₹84,900 a month before deductions (AmbitionBox, October 2026). Your in-hand pay is lower.

Divide your annual CTC by 12 for gross monthly pay. Your in-hand amount then depends on variable pay paid yearly, provident fund, income tax and parts of CTC like insurance and gratuity that never reach your bank account. Always ask HR for a CTC breakup and your expected in-hand amount before you compare offers.

9. How to increase your business analyst salary

Short answer: Get the senior title, move into a better-paying industry, add SQL and data skills, build domain depth and change jobs at the right time with clear proof of impact.

  1. Aim for the senior title. Ask your manager what you must show. Usually it is owning a full project, leading workshops and mentoring juniors.
  2. Move industries. A shift from IT services to banking, fintech, internet or product companies can add several lakh a year, as Section 6 shows.
  3. Add data skills. Learn SQL, Excel modelling and one BI tool such as Power BI or Tableau.
  4. Go deep in one domain. A BA who understands lending or payments end to end is hard to replace.
  5. Certify at the right level. ECBA early, CCBA or CBAP once you meet the experience rules.
  6. Track impact in numbers. For example, "Cut manual report time from 6 hours to 1 hour a week."
  7. Time your job change. Move after delivering one or two full projects. Prepare with our business analyst interview questions.

10. Salary negotiation tips for business analysts

Short answer: Know the market range for your title, city and industry, share a range rather than one number, focus on fixed pay, and back your ask with numbers from past work.

  • Know your range. Use the tables in this guide for your title, city and industry.
  • Share a range. Make sure you are happy with its lower end.
  • Focus on fixed pay. Ask what share of the bonus was actually paid last year.
  • Show your value. Talk about problems solved and time or money saved.
  • Ask about the title. A senior title sets your next salary band.
  • Look beyond salary. Joining bonus, notice buyout, learning budget and certification support all have value.
  • Get it in writing. Do not resign until you hold a signed offer letter.
